Buick john Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Can anyone tell me what the standard colour of a 48 flathead 6 pls Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 17, 2015 Report Posted March 17, 2015 Silver is the base color..many have a preference for what brand paint to use from speciality high heat special marketed paint down to the lowly and yet very suitable can of Rustoleum silver. Some think only a very expensive product should be applied which is often far from true and best choice...the actual product you use will more than not be a choice of paint you are accustomed to using and know by previous use the application and durability Quote
Buick john Posted March 17, 2015 Author Report Posted March 17, 2015 Thanks Plymouthy Adams I thought it was silver myself but thought I'd check it out Quote

JD luxury liner Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Sorry but silver is not acceptable Just my opinion Quote
Andydodge Posted March 19, 2015 Report Posted March 19, 2015 Silver seems fine to me........back in 1971 when I bought my 1940 Dodge the engine was silver, and if it wasn't the original paint then it sure seemed like it..........that engine pic looks like a pale grey colour to me............andyd Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Originally they were a shade of silver. Some like more shiny (me included)........some like less shiny. Some have painted their engines red, black, blue, grey................some have been very unique and sharp looking. So........suit yourself. I personally like the Por 15 brand of hi temp aluminum color paint called Por 20.......applied with a one or two inch paint brush. Others like spray cans. You can do the details any way you like....as well. 1 Quote
ptwothree Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Is it just me or are those freeze plugs installed backwards?? Sorry but silver is not acceptable Just my opinion Quote
Andydodge Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 PTW.....yep you are right, not only are the plugs in backwards but they appear to be the cup style which are not the correct type for these engines......which should have the flatter style..........but at least they are brass so won't rust out......lol........andyd. LFT_QBA_1980 Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 I used the 500 Dyno Heat Tested Engine Enamel Ceramic. What I like about this one that it goes on really easy and if you need to touch it up, you can't tell you touched it up. Goes on nice and easy. I am not a paint guy but I touch it up when ever I can. I had a sheet that said what is Flat Black and what is Glossy Black and Silver. I will try to locate it and if i do I will add it. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 Is it just me or are those freeze plugs installed backwards?? those are brass cup, typically for a smooth cast hole, not the stepped cut the L6 has ..not the recommended style that should be used.. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 (edited) no you just seeing the depth of the cup...these are not disc style..shallow cups is what they look like to me..you can look close and see them sticking proud of the casting some 1/8 inch +/- with the very rounded bottom and the small surface area for seating these have very little friction mounting surface available.. Don Coatney Posted March 20, 2015 Report Posted March 20, 2015 This is a photo of the correct style welsh plug. Quote
