4mula,

Don't worry that is definately restorable (I think we are going to need a bigger torch)

Ya, I'd go broke shipping parts back and forth, and I'm on a deadline now. First shop today doesn't think 2 months is enough time to finish all the work...so I'm trying one more and then I'm gonna start getting worried. Most shops around here won't touch old work, too easy to just do easy insurance claims on newer stuff

Sadly they have no stock and no idea if they'll get more in

Here's mine...24 holes on top of the dent to be fixed

That looks like the spot welds were properly drilled out. When I did a 39-47 bed there were about 10 per side and thats a shorter bed. Straighten the pocket and then fill those with weld to reattach

Great...I was planning on buying from him for the caboose trailer project since those were trashed....

He doesn't want to make more? Or what? Maybe dodge cental could purchase the tooling?

EDIT: just talked to him, he SAID they were ordered "a while ago" and "should be in" but doesn't know when.  He said to check back in 3-4 weeks....

Ya he instilled no confidence in me that they were coming in any time in the near future....I know a guy waiting 4 months for a needle and seat for the carb on his mini-truck....i don't have time for that mess. I found a shop only 20 minutes from home that are going to tackle the job, I don't expect perfection...those boxes never were perfect, but they will do a much better job then I have time for. If I get desperate I'll cut the other box side I have to get them a stake pocket, but he figured he could salvage what was there. I knew they could, as could I...but thats the difference in adding another 2-3 hours grinding and welding at $100+ an hour shop rate.

Now back to power window channels and custom door panels for me!

With these trucks, It always comes down to whether you have more time than money or more money than time. The good news is that both senarios work, but only with Mopar trucks (and cars too)..

They'll turn out fine,

p.s. 4mula-dlx: I'd like to know who was Mr. Happy Drill on stake pocket (in your picture)

If he needed to remove the pocket to repair it, ALL the spot welds holding it on needed to be drilled out and if you don't have access to a spot welder, you'll need holes drilled or punched in it or a new one for plug welds anyway. It didn't look like he drilled any extras in it to me, flanges look to be straight yet so he didn't go gung ho on it with a hammer and pry bars.

24 spot welds? With the double holes and the onesthat cut the edge off? Not where I would expect the welds to be. I would possibly drill out the first couple and try and use a thin hacksaw blade to cut the others......OR use the stud gun which was previously agreed upon to pull the dent out. Or talk to me and I can make the call as to what I want done. Regardless,...he will never see any work from me or anyone I know again...or the shop he works for.

when I took them off the caboose bed side...yes they were kinda swiss cheese.

Nominally there are 3 on the face and one in the divot channel and 2-3 on the top angle...one of mine the operator must have gotten welder happy...it was about double that.

I'd have that stake pocket welded up and fixed in less than 2 hours. Any good body shop ----no problem.

Pulling and filling the dent would be an hour alone with wait and sand times, not to mention the weld/grind and then fill and sand again.... It might be done in 2 hours, but that's still more then. New pocket welded on IMO would have been the easier way. Either way...it's their baby now...they got a budget $500 over their quote before I have to start eating cat food and selling blood! LOL
