Plymouthy Adams Posted May 3, 2014 Report Posted May 3, 2014 most of these seems to have a slight weep and keeps a wet appearance..but I do not recall seeing one actually drip...with the age and rust etc and the thinning of the metal over the years especially in the very low area the plug resides..you may want to tread very lightly here in regard to putting a wrench to it.. 50net Posted May 3, 2014 Author Report Posted May 3, 2014 thanks ill put more gas in tank and monitor to see if worth trying. Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 here's what your plug looks like out of the tank--be careful and ready if you remove it from a rusty tank!!!!!!!... a 1/2" ratchet will remove it. Quote

Mark Haymond Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 Like Dodgeb4ya, the square end of a 1/2 wrench got mine off. Nothing else I had would grip the corners effectively. I made a cork gasket and tightened the plug, but it had a slow leak. On my second try I made another cork gasket and used red silicone sealer on both sides of the gasket. That stopped the leak. Quote
greg g Posted May 4, 2014 Report Posted May 4, 2014 If you get out and make up some sort of gasket, make sure you don,t overtighten on re install. Quote

linus6948 Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 When I still had my original gas tank I removed that plug to drain the tank, when replaced I had a slight leak from the plug. I consulted a Plumber friend of mine for advice and he told me to use a dry Ivory Soap bar to apply some soap to the plug threads, that stopped the leak. Quote
