55 Fargo Posted April 24, 2014 Report Posted April 24, 2014 For some reason this topic reminded me of this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ezrJM5uQ_s8 haha! How, kemo sabe, Kramer makems good "brave", for a comedian............ Quote
Charles Furman Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 I love what you're doing, and I agree with the other comments that you're both creative and talented. I can't wait to see it when it done. Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 25, 2014 Author Report Posted April 25, 2014 Thanks Loved the Kramer video LOL Agreed If I had an Indian it sure would have to been ridden (maybe I could park it near it.) One Member mention tan might look good so I remembered a truck I saw in Classic trucks once and loved the color and it would go with all the historic indian signage I have collected for the project. Tell me what you think of the color Its called Deltona Fort Walton Beach Beige. the front grill bars would have to be a cream color to tie in with the faces on the Indian lights link to color http://www.classictrucks.com/features/1301clt_1956_ford_f_100/ Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 25, 2014 Report Posted April 25, 2014 Cool little details, I love the fringes on the seat and the cab roof lights. We put the same gage and speedo units in DC Pete and they fit perfectly in the existing brass rings. I was watching American Picker and they dug a 1917 Indian frame out of a ladies back yard, all rusted to pieces and gave her $3,000 plus paid $1,000 to have her lawn repaired. The originals are very cool. That episode of American Pickers took place in the next town over from me. I havent gotten to watch it yet but i heard they also bought a few Indians and old Harleys from the guys that own Paper City Brewery in Holyoke MA. I've been to that brewery and seen some of the guys bike collection, its really awesome. Indian Motorcycle had a plant in Springfield where they manufactured bikes from 1901-1953. -Chris Quote
ruff1148kr Posted April 25, 2014 Author Report Posted April 25, 2014 Yeah Chris I saw it the spent 62,000.00 in the bike area alone. They sure kind sniff out those old Indians Looks like that Brewery is going to be expanded now. Speaking of The Spingfield Plant one of the Idea's I have kicking around was the Night watchman's truck for the Springfield Indian Plant I have some good old retro Signs and a Plant Security Guard badge. ruff1148kr Posted April 30, 2014 Author Report Posted April 30, 2014 here is a pic of the extra in the bed Tank that will be going in the Indian shop truck. The plan is to plumb it into the new main stock style gas tank from tanks inc for long road trips Quote
1952B3b23 Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Thats awesome ruff, great idea with plumbing the two tanks together! Do you own a motorcycle shop, hence the reason for the shop truck? Do you have any pics of the night watchman's truck you referred to before? -Chris Quote
rglowacki Posted April 30, 2014 Report Posted April 30, 2014 Dude, all you are doing is what so many guys did when they first got their truck....they customized it! Put their name on the side, name of the business, etc. Absolutely appropriate. And when you consider that otherwise everything you have would just be a pile of spare pieces, you are absolutely doing the right thing, and doing great work too! Love the look you are achieving so far. Quote
ruff1148kr Posted May 1, 2014 Author Report Posted May 1, 2014 the Night watchman's truck is just a idea of where I may take this Indian theme if I get more actual Springfield plant stuff. But one of the things that I have done with this truck was put Fold-down Motorcycle foot pegs on both the drivers and passenger kick panels a few people have saw that and loved the idea. They said it would keep their girl from putting feet on the dash. Quote

ruff1148kr Posted May 13, 2014 Author Report Posted May 13, 2014 Well its been a frustrating week. Trying to solve a few problems on fabrication before I put the cab out in the temperamental weather again. First Due to the moved firewall I had to fab a functional Cowl vent mechanize that would not take up too much room. I thought due to the lack of room I would not be able to have a modern AC/Heat defrost system But after dealing with every company in the country, OldAir Products from TX came in with a great size unit. Now I'm try to tackle the Wiper system and Radio location. Love the Newport Engineering Unit but the Motor is sitting the wrong way and looks like it will interfere with the dash shifter. Thought about rotating the motor but will mess up the preset park position. Don't get me started on my plan to put the stereo in the old gauge cluster location (too Shallow) found a real shallow stereo (4in deep) but that also had problems. Now I noticed my wiper trans and Wiper arm mounts are messed up too. Well if it was easy everyone would be doing it right. 1 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 use the SST stereo..the remote display only sets about 1/2 deep into the dash panel..on my 48 Plymouth install it is set in the top of the speaker grille opening and DOES NOT even set deep enough to hit the original speaker (not that it is mounted anyway) Quote
ruff1148kr Posted May 13, 2014 Author Report Posted May 13, 2014 Wow that's one small stereo.... Who makes it? is SST a model or a brand? Thanks for the tip Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 that is just a remote head and control unit..the stereo is normal size with multiple amp connections provided and about every possible input allowed for...remote RF controller also with its own receiver/antennae http://www.ebay.com/itm/Hidden-Stereo-Ipod-amp-200-Watt-Radio-Stereo-Satellite-ready-USB-memory-input-/320928651116?pt=Vintage_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories&hash=item4ab8d6976c&vxp=mtr Quote
DJ194950 Posted May 13, 2014 Report Posted May 13, 2014 For wiper systems, check out these remote motor types at: specialtypowerwindows.com and e-zwiring.com. Also some at epay. They both use a motor where you have room and connect to an cable that slides and connects to wiper housings mounted where they belong. Doug Quote
ruff1148kr Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 Thanks for the tip. I guess my real problem is going to be this under dash Windsor shifter, thought I had it perfect till the planning for wiper and the AC and all. so far all wiper motors except vacuum type have caused a problem. really wanted electric with all the money I'm sinking in this truck. seams like getting vacume mot rebuilt and all was almost as high with only half the benifits Quote

ruff1148kr Posted May 14, 2014 Author Report Posted May 14, 2014 going to get a hamster and a wheel and see what I can do with that, then I'll work on my oil lamp headlights (lol) Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 14, 2014 Report Posted May 14, 2014 ruff....when outfitting these old vehicles with upgrades like stereo, AC and other creature fonforts..you find you quickly run out of room under the dash. On my 48 the install of 2004 factory Dodge AC unit prevented wiper motor to stay in place and it also conflicted with the fresh air vent. Radio..forget about it.. The fresh air vent is actually higher than the wiper motor now and the lever is about 10 inches left of original position and the vacuum wipers were never going to be on the car from day one on the rebuild..get the cable offset one...I put these together from various parts that are totally compatible with late model mopar intermittent wipers controllers..I usually locate the motor to passenger cowl area behind the glove box. On the AC not sure if you have purchased your unit but the Hurricane 1000 will fit the same footprint as the stand factory heater and offers heat/def/AC Quote

ruff1148kr Posted May 15, 2014 Author Report Posted May 15, 2014 Plymouthy Adams Good call on the Hurricane AC. Thats what I just got Fedx got the 3100 because it had lower stub out for connections and was electronic not cable. They did fail to mention the electronic def louver motor switch adds 2 inches to the top left corner of the unit but did my Cutting on the new firewall today hated to do it but had to be done. So far, so good on getting unit to fit with my deep inset firewall. Got a couple different plans for stereo nothing high end I really don't use them much, except when I'm pulling into a car show or something. Would be real interested to see some pics of your creative wiper set ups. Not to thrilled about the prospect of buying a new system from Newport and not being able to make it work. My Idea was to rotate the motor and some how readjust the park position to something I can live with. Called them they did not think it would work (call me hard headed. But I think I can pull it off. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 I did the 1000 because I do not like being locked in to proprietary electronic controls..thus the reason I recommended the 1000 series...send me in a PM your e-mail...can send a pic or two maybe... Quote
HanksB3B Posted May 15, 2014 Report Posted May 15, 2014 Most of the guys I see with modernized 50's cars extend the dasboard downward 4" or so to pick up room for things like speakers, gauges and A/C vents. I don't see why our trucks wouldn't do well with that. Hank Quote
