Merle Coggins Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 Crazy... There had to be some axle mods to keep one wheel driving while the one in the air remained still. The also didn't have the lug nuts very tight. Quote
RobertKB Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 More like future recipients of a Darwin Award. They don't let women drive in Saudi Arabia and some guys shouldn't either. LOL Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted April 17, 2014 Report Posted April 17, 2014 next they will attempt a landing on the sun..they going to do it at night... 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 I have seen this trick in thrill shows such as Joey Chitwood Hell Drivers in the past. What is interesting is suicide doors on a modern car Quote
Lumpy Posted April 18, 2014 Report Posted April 18, 2014 (edited) I did not realize that one could have that much control when driving on two wheels. Wonder what tire pressure they are running, and how long the sidewalls last when doing that! I noticed the doors also, but I think it is the same as you see on some trucks, with just slightly extended cabs, had a friend who had a Ford Ranger pick up, and the doors worked like that. You can see the rear door has no handle. At any rate, yeah, they say the desert can drive you crazy. As to landing on the sun at night, how are they going to see where they are going? Sounds dangerous to me, they'll need some good bright landing lights. ken. Edited April 18, 2014 by Lumpy Quote
Todd B Posted April 20, 2014 Report Posted April 20, 2014 I saw a stunt show documentary once and they put counter weights in the one side to help hold it down. I doubt if that is an original off the lot car. I noticed what merle said about the axles not spinning also. They are still crazy, no shoes or any protection, when I was young and more stupid I would have never tried this. Quote
Lumpy Posted April 21, 2014 Report Posted April 21, 2014 I guess it would depend on how much you trust the driver...that would be a LOT of trust. k. Quote
48Dodger Posted April 22, 2014 Report Posted April 22, 2014 Having been hit by a drunk driver, my 2001 1500 Dodge Ram extended cab was knocked up on two wheels (drivers side). A Honda Cvic had run a four way stop and hit us at 70 mph. It happened like this, as I pulled into the intersection, I took a second look like I always do and saw a car headed for us fast. My friend (female) screamed "He's gonna hit us!!" I floored it to get out of the way. The impacted reminded me of racing...I wasn't disoriented, but I was surprised I was still driving it. I was sitting on the drivers door panel but seemed to have a lot of control. His small car acted like a wedge under my 4 wheel drive truck. The nerf bar had saved us from a direct hit to the cab. Pulling myself off the door panel and holding on to the steering wheel, I could tell if I pulled hard enough I could bring it back down to the ground. I grabbed with both hands and tried to turn left.....after pulling as hard as I could, it fell back down on all four tires. This was in 2006. My friend was in the passenger seat, and three kids in the back. It was my son who was sitting behind me. Everyone was Ok. My son wanted to know how I knew to do that....I told him that it drove itself...I just held onto the steering wheel. It was when I wanted it to "land" that it got tough. When I looked at it the next day with my buddy, we both noticed the amount of surface the sidewall provided for traction and that if it was a smaller/stiffer tire, it could have been a different story. Everytime I see a video like this one, I'm reminded of that day. When my son tells the story, he talks about staring at the asphalt in the window and watching me arm wrestle the steering wheel. Rest of the accident story: The guy ran from his car, drunk as a skunk. Ran to his sister's house just down the hill. How do I know? She ran to the scene and spoke with me. She was scared for him. He came into her house bloody saying had killed a bunch of people. I told her "no...just his car". I caught her and her friends throwing bottles out of the car before the cops came. When the cops went to her house he was gone. They actually called in choppers and dogs....crazy. Two kids went by ambulance to the ER. Zac and I stayed with the truck. it was heavliy damaged but driveable. The cops OK'd it for me to drive it home and we did just that. Zac said "Did you hear him say 'call in the chopper and the dogs'?"..I said "Yep"... he stared off a ways and said "That was cool". We got the truck home, drove with my brother to the hospital where we found that everyone indeed was Ok and going home that night. They never found the guy...I stopped checking in 2011. I was always hopful that if I kept bugging them, it would keep the case on top.....oh well. The truck was totalled and I bought a 2006 Dodge Ram1500 Hemi.....first thing I did was put nerf bars on it. 48D Quote
