Scruffy49 Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Drained the blocks, left the drain valve open. Hard freeze tonight and tomorrow night. Really hard freeze and high winds so trees explode type hard freeze. Both engines are outside right now, have kept the 218 full of coolant/antifreeze/rust inhibitor in case I needed to swap the 230 guts into the block with the numbers matching my title. Radiator is out, in the barn, cap on drain open. Did I miss anything? Quote
wayfarer Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 ...if you can freeze a tree to a point that it ruptures then I would not trust antifreeze. Bare iron doesn't care how cold it gets. Have you ever considered moving a bit farther south?? Quote
desoto1939 Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 If it is this cold what about your regular car or truck. How did you prepare it for winter. Assuming that you might have a block heater in the modern car. In your parts car/truck do you have a heater and did you also drain that if it is out of the vehicle. Did you drain your garden hoses and turn off the spigots to the outside lines and drain any source of water. Rich Hartung Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 (edited) To hell with the trucks. I'd get the hell out of Dodge if it's going to be that cold! Edited November 12, 2013 by Dodgeb4ya Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 Must get a lot colder in western Tennessee than it does in Middle Tennessee. But I will keep my eyes and ears open for exploding trees click here-------> http://www.flickr.com/photos/33992744@N07/5260848312/in/photostream/ Quote
ggdad1951 Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 and even colder than in MinneSNOWta! Quote
Dave72dt Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 It got down to 16 here last night and all my trees and my neighbors trees are still intact. Quote
Todd B Posted November 12, 2013 Report Posted November 12, 2013 My semi has been sitting outside until I can get my new shed done. It was 11 degrees this morning and I wanted to move it and it started right up. The only problems I have ever seen is when a battery is weak it will freeze and be junk. Quote
wallytoo Posted November 13, 2013 Report Posted November 13, 2013 18 degrees here last night. high today should be about 28. no exploding trees. not even when the temp has been -28 F. 50/50 coolant is fine at -28F, which is the coldest i've experienced as a driver. it was -32F here one year, but i was in 1st grade at the time. don't remember any exploding trees then, either.
