Reg Evans Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 This morning I was watching a recorded episode of Rick's Restorations and caught a quick glimpse of this Dodge bus as he walked by to meet the owners of a Bimbo Racer he had just restored. It sure would be fun to find one of these shorty's and bring it home. Anyone here have one ? 1 Quote
Don Coatney Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Cool Bus! Is that just like the one you rode to school? 1 Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 I bet you could buy it from them...for a price....or pay them to hack it together and look "good" but not really be a great restoration....that show is a love hate for me...things look good, but I don't like their shortcuts Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 here we go again.....lol my cousin in California had no idea what I was talking about when I said "you rode the short bus to school, didn't your" Quote
Reg Evans Posted May 2, 2013 Author Report Posted May 2, 2013 Cool Bus! Is that just like the one you rode to school? Nah Don.........I never did need no book learnin. ggdad........From the prices he quotes on refurbishing stuff I'd be afraid to see what He'd sell it for. Quote
wayfarer Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 There is a short circa '47 not far from me, sitting in plain view of Hwy 20 in the Plainview area. Kinda cute, but really, what would a guy actually use it for ? Convert it to a camper or ? Quote
Dodgeb4ya Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 If you were to buy it you would..... Build/restore it -say its kinda cute just as everyone else would. Get tired of it and sell it to the next person who thinks it's a kinda cute little bus. Then two or three years later we would see it for sale and say... Wow what a cute little bus. 1 Quote

That's what I've been doing all my life. I did a count one day about 10 years ago with my brother and we came up with more than 250 vehicles I had owned for a short time. As an example......even this was cute to me. Quote
Todd B Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I have seen that bus on Rick's Restoration before. I always wanted a bus like that and put a big hemi in it. I would pick up all of freinds and go out to eat. (Post winning the lottery). I love the show, gives me several ideas and tips. I do agree with Mark, I am a finish cabinet/furniture builder and I think the wood parts they restore look like crap. maybe you metal and paint guys think the same about that portion. I look at piece of rusty metal and I scratch my shorts, they make the metal parts look so easy. Quote
Todd B Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 Years ago I was buying trucks at Ritchie Auctions and selling them in front of my shop. The DOT got a hold of me a said I needed a Dealer business to sell more than 6 vehicles in a 12 month period. That's what I've been doing all my life. I did a count one day about 10 years ago with my brother and we came up with more than 250 vehicles I had owned for a short time. As an example......even this was cute to me. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 as a so called reality show they have a team of folks working the background getting the times they need..these are not on the show just for the heck of it..look at some of the costs...no way the person is paying that tab..network baby..else they have a very special rubber lined room awaiting the owners somewhere in their near future..wife watches this , I hear it in the background while on the computer...wish they would put real in the reality. Reg Evans Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) Yeah, On that show with the bus they supposedly got $6500 to restore the little Bimbo Cruiser. It's nothing more than a little go cart with an electric motor. Pricey. Maybe, Tim, we are just jealous we don't have that much spare coinage laying around. Edited May 3, 2013 by Reg Evans Quote
Todd B Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 I still love watching, although I would love to shave the kid's head with 2 colors of hair. Quote

Jeff Balazs Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 One of my buddies actually visited their old shop before they moved. He said that the old coke machines, gas pumps and vending machines looked nice and I think that is the kind of stuff they are fairly good at. They did an late 50's Matchless scrambles bike for a customer a while back that really made me cringe. I am an old AJS/Matchless guy.....and the engines built by their Competition shop are true works of art to me. The metal work looked ok....but that Matchless compy engine is a very tricky beast that requires true old school skills and attention to very obscure technical data that I seriously doubt they had access too. Not to mention the special factory tools required to do it right. Setting up the bottom end on one of those engines is something only a handful of guy's on the whole planet know how to do correctly. That said I enjoy seeing all the unusual stuff they get in the shop. I just wish they would stick to things they really know well. No one shop has the knowledge to do it all the stuff that comes through the doors correctly. Jeff Quote
ggdad1951 Posted May 3, 2013 Report Posted May 3, 2013 (edited) their wood working is atocious....the attention to detail that gets me, like using pop rivets instead of semi tubulars, or the wrong bolts. If they did only what they knew the show would get old fast with Coke machines and old slot machines. Edited May 3, 2013 by ggdad1951 Quote

Reg Evans Posted May 3, 2013 Author Report Posted May 3, 2013 Hang on Tim, I thought you were "The Man With Two Wives" Talk about a support staff....you are there ! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2013 Report Posted May 4, 2013 I have to admit that both have made their number of trip to the junkyards and old car retrievals...sometimes even both on the same trip... Quote
Jim Shepard Posted May 6, 2013 Report Posted May 6, 2013 Hey Reg! Get a hold of Tim. He and I looked at some parts a guy up in Orangevale had and he had one of these in his yard... Quote
