JIPJOBXX Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Just a question as I'm thinking of changing out my ignition wire wire to copper or some type of metal cable. I also was wondering if anyone here is using one of those old suppressors for keeping static from making noise on your radio. Quote
desoto1939 Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 I purcahsed from NAPA a Radio Static Condensor and have it on my generator. I forget which bolt this is hooked to on the gen. I also have the suppressor that is on the center hole on the distributor lead that comes from the Coil. Rich HArtung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
TodFitch Posted November 30, 2012 Report Posted November 30, 2012 Radio? What radio? I use copper wire core spark plug wires with no noise suppression capacitors anywhere on the car. I guess if someone next to me at a stop light is listening to AM radio I could be annoying them. But FM is not affected much and CDs/MP3 players don't seem to be affected at all. Remarkably, all the cellphones and GPS devices I've tried in the car work as well as when they are not in the car. I guess modern digital electronics is fairly immune to ignition RFI/noise. Quote
hkestes41 Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I ordered a spool of wire and terminals from Brillman http://brillman.com/store/ and built my own. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I got mine at TSC also..as I never listen to AM radio..matter of fact I don't do radio at all anymore..RF is not an issue..I think I could be a fan of Sirius radio Quote
desoto1939 Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 On my 39 Desoto I have from NAPA the RC1 Condensor which is a radio statis supression condensor. The wire is attached to the larger of the two nuts that is on the generator. It cost me $7.99 Rich Hartung Desoto1939@aol.com Quote
TodFitch Posted December 2, 2012 Report Posted December 2, 2012 I ordered a spool of wire and terminals from Brillman http://brillman.com/store/ and built my own The end bits, (terminals, boots, etc.) should be available at your local better auto supply store. I purchased a spool of the same type of plug wire you show a couple of decades ago, so each time I do a full tune up I get the terminals which look the same as you show from Bob's Auto (walking distance from where I work) and make up a new ignition set. Also get the rotor, points, distributor cap and condenser at the same time at the same place. Were I to do it over again, I'd go for the black lacquer rather than the multi-colored plug wires as that is more authentic to Plymouth. But I will admit that the colored stuff looks pretty neat under the hood. Quote
