Working the night shift has its benefits for me, I had nothing to do the other night during a cure so I went back to my roots as a composite lay up tech and made a center windshield post for the 50 out of Carbon graphite.

On the left is my original that I used for the mold, on the right is the prototype graphite part. To secure it to the inner post I used some thick gauge aluminum plate bent just like the original part. The benefit of this is the part is lighter and just as strong (if not stronger than the original) I am currently pulling molds off of other little parts I have laying around as I sand blast them in prep for paint.

the hero: the carbon rod!

name it!

that's cool! What else you gonna replace w/ CF?

the lower bed parts, the access doors on the doors themselves. Just little things, the good thing is I can paint all the stuff body color and nobody would be none the wiser. I even thought about pulling a mold of my review mirror just for fun since the mirror surface fell out.

Its not what you buy but what you build. I read that somewhere. Great job!

That carbon fiber piece is really cool! Great idea!

I know a guy who's addicted to brake fluid. He says he can stop any time.

Any update on that one yet? haha..

Quote came from the original poster. Important thing is you have learned from all the less than sucessful stuff. I know I have learned from all the less than successful stuff you have built and I hope you have learned from the less than successful stuff I have built! Beauty of life is you can learn something new every day....

I think the grill bars would be a huge contribution to the site....they are so hard and expensive to find and damaged if they are there. They are what make these trucks IMO. Can you lay in some steel mount straps w/ nuts on them? I got faith in you to figure it out!

what I would have to do is like what I did with the windshield post, make the mounting brackets and bond them to the inside of the bars. but here is a question, does anybody know how the Stainless will hold up to 350 degrees for 6 hours?

The Stainless headers on my Raptor take a lot more than 350 degrees & all they did is turn a brownish color.

I have 3 extra stainless bars for the '48-'50 trucks.

Pretty beat up, but maybe you could use them?

I could, that way I can get the mounting brackets out. that would be the easy way to do it. The good thing about the graphite I use is the resin will fill any voids, plus I can do some basic body work to get them straight if need be.
