windsor8 Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I visited the National Museum of the United States Air Force today as it is in my backyard, only about 20 miles from my home. Its been a coupe of years since my last visit and I always see something new. I got there right after it open and had the place almost to myself. If you're ever in the Dayton, Ohio area I highly recommend it. It's a first class place and admission is free. Quote
greg g Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 that one needs to be put into Areo3113's shop for a little maint time. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 we have a large Air Force museum here in my home area also and it is always getting new stuff and set up real well. It is a good source of intertainment and historical facts. We even have a Blackbird on display..my favorite bird of all..then there is the little Dragonfly.. Quote
Big_John Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 If you are ever around Newport News, Virginia, another great one to go to is the Army Transportation museum in Ft. Eustis. They cover a bit of everything. Quote
Merle Coggins Posted January 7, 2012 Report Posted January 7, 2012 I went to that Air Force museum in Dayton a couple of years ago when I was in town for the WPC meet. It was AWESOME. Merle Quote

Niel Hoback Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 I was in the museum at Ft. Knox several years ago when the boys were still at home. It was great. A large outdoor collection of yanks and such from both WW's and nice stuff inside too. They even had Patton's Cadillac that he died in. While walking around one corner inside, we walked right up to and past a Japanese machine gun nest! One of the boys said "We're all dead now". Quote

Frank Elder Posted January 8, 2012 Report Posted January 8, 2012 Thanks Aero, about 3 years ago my good friend Tim Turner from omaha was honeymooning with his woman in florida they had just gotten married after a 12 year live in.........His brother in law owned a texan or similar trainer AC and asked him to go for a spin. You are aviation so I suppose you heard of it......that is the one that crashed off the beach and the bodies were not found until later on in the week. Not that he wasn't in jepordy every week anyway he flew helicopters that delivered payloads cabled to the bottam of his chopper to the top of highrises and skyscrapers on a daily basis:eek: Quote
