I bought one of those new in the early 60's. Great car. Someone had one at at recent car show, my wife was surprised it was the same model. We had blankets and toys in the back for a 'rolling' kids room. Crazy but that was how it was then.

Looking forward to following the results. Wecome!!!!

Hmm that must have been a transplant from back east! Never have seen that much rust in a cali car before.:P Might as well take a few inches off the top while you are at it!:D
Dez---I thought of that---just don`t have the guts for it---bad enough getting the new section in. We do have it all tacked into place--finish up the final stich welding--get the pillars done too---then on to more body work. Ya shes got rust, but still the best we found for the cash we had. The jams and floors are good all the parts are there----we got what we wanted a project where the kid and I can have time together.....pics show me (left) kid (center) and good bud Denny (right)..........Lee

See what happens? Get all liquored up on the Miller Lite and you go cuttin things up.

I can hear it now when you walked in the shop the next day. "Don't worry, I Can Fix This- My dad's a TV Repairman, he's got an AWESOME set of tools" :D

In between the stich welding on the roof, I have been fixing the gap on the roof rail while the other stuff cools down----before and after pics shows the small piece to fit in and the section just below that the window sets on.......not to bad for a hack:rolleyes:. Did some welding on the pillars--we had some gaps here, but had to work with what they left us-----just a lot of extra grinding before the mud work---pics later......Lee

We got the roof all stich welded and two pillars got the top layers peeled off and ready for the patch pieces........the Kid is getting those ready at his shop. There is one before shot of the worst pillar. The last small section of roof is cut out and ready for it`s patch. Is there some paint, rust sealer out there that can be applied and welded over without it all being all burned off. As you can see the metal under the first layer is pretty solid but does has heavy surface pitting and surface rust. I will use Por-15 if there isn`t some other product........Thanks

I believe most welding supply houses have a weld through primer. Also check Grainger and/or McMaster-Carr. Brush on or aerosol also as I recall. Not sure if rust would be an issue if you can't get it cleaned up.

Now that I think of it, I'll bet Eastwood would have something too.

Thursday the kid and myself got the tailight buckets repaired and a long metal strip that holds the weather strip in place taken out and cleaned up for the new piece---plus started on the only bad spot on the floors---used the left over steel from the roof---worked out well---odds were the heater core was leaking at one time and got the carpet wet. Lower rear quarters next. I am happy with the progress so far, hoping to be in primer by spring--------------hope Santa is good to all members.........Lee:D

Cut a small opening on the rear quarter to see what we needed---do some tailgate area work and lots of cutting and pasting on sub stucture and quarter repair............ Panels are for the sedans---they don`t make them for the wagons,so there is some added modifications.......Lee

I don't see many comments on your thread. I think you deserve a hearty "atta boy". You've taken on a daunting project and, with quality time with your son, you're turning a rust bucket into something pretty special. Good job!
