fresh air option

I'm keeping mine the way it was with the petcock on the head, a heater switch for the blower on the dash, and the defroster control being a small door that is opened on the side of the heater. One thing I did change (since I couldn't find an original) is the ducting used to get the fresh air to the heater. I bought something a True Value Hardware that was designed for a clothes dryer. It was a sheet metal plate with a 3" hose flange that I mounted to the firewall. This is used to channel the air to the heater air intake. When I find some black clost corrugated hose that fits I'll finish the job to the air intake up near the grill. I can take a pic if anyone wants to see what I've done. Mike

Gleaner combines used to have a black corrugated hose on their Airflow grainsavers. Might be the same size. In a pinch they used dryer ducting.AGCO Allis is the company's name now.

Only 4" hoses I could find were the shiny silver dryer vents & very expensive brake duct hoses that can take temps over 600 degrees.

So I cheaped out & went with dryer vent hose.

I painted it with dark grey texture paint.

The flash shows some silver showing thru so it may need another coat but it does look pretty good if I do say so myself!

those measurments would work for the knobs to be mounted to the left of the driver, correct?

Tragic! I just looked back at the other pilot house the upull yard had a few years back and noticed what appears to be the fresh air intake piece laying by my foot! I know I took the knobs and control panel which look nothing like what I just pulled for Mark. I think the firewall mounted air piece is just visible in the pic too but if I remember right it wasn't in good shape.

Reg we can only hope that someone else who was scrounging parts off that truck snatched it up. I know I wasnt the only one because stuff was missing when I came back the next day for more. I keep lucking onto these things when going there for modern parts. That time was parts to fix my sisters crashed 90 bonneville and this time for the 98 saturn I bought with a bad radiator.

As most options are on these trucks. But the fresh air option was one of the more rarities out there.

and yep, that looks like the firewall valve on there as well. I'm an advocate to strip EVERYTHING that comes off on the off chance someone will want it or it's hard to find.

Haven't seen any on ebay either. There's cables on there for later model sweptlines that look like the same style of cable, except for the knob and dash mount. One of these could probably be adapted. The PH era cables are very high quality, especially at the dash end, in my opinion. The solid brass and zinc plated hardware is bulletproof and works great when cleaned and greased.

Dave Miller who had a big list of parts for sale on here still has a fresh air intake scoop last time I talked to him a few months ago.

odd, I've taken 2 heaters apart and a third I have sitting and NONE of them have all three doors, all have one "missing" and they are the same one. The tabs are bent over and help hold down the screen as well....odd

I think only the 61's have the doors. The 62 and 65 have the hinge tabs but no doors. They just left the stamped housing as it was and didn't install the doors.

I have a #61 with all 3 doors and (2) #65's with only the bottom door. What's it all mean. The #61 is the fresh air heater.

Just checked my spare hearer (a model 62) and it in fact has the bottom door only, the side doors are non-existent like ggdad's description below.

Unfortunately, the bottom door is the one subject to more intense abuse from careless feet.
