1940plymouth Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Hard to believe that this time last week I was looking forward to our meeting at the Roscoe Diner with a nice weekend. Yesterday we had eight tenths of an inch of rain changing to snow last evening. Got a good dusting, this morning the car doors were frozen tight when I went to start it to take my wife to work. Now the kicker is that we could get up to a foot of heavy, wet snow starting tomorrow morning thru tomorrow night, WAY TOO EARLY!!!!!!!!!!!! Quote
Mark D Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Weatherman says 4" to 8" of heavy wet snow for us as well her in central Mass. But, it shouldn't last too long as I hear there's a warm front coming next week. It's too early and I refuse to get the snow shovels out. Loooking at the bright side, it should make for some interesting photo opportunities with Ruby. Quote
Captain Neon Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 I have been putting the cars up the middle of November. With the early snow in Colorado, and forecasts of snow in NW Kansas this past week, it could be any day now in Topeka. I'll probably be fueling up every evening now so I have a full tank if I get hit by a surprise snow, and not getting the old Plymouth out until spring. Quote
greg g Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Hmmmm sun shining, had a frost, leaves coming down like rain, supposed to be dry today up here in Central NY. Quote

greg g Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 looks like Mark might be on the edge of the 1 to 3 inch accumulation. Quote
randroid Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Gents, We got a foot of heavy stuff on Wednesday and the trees hadn't yet gone through senescence so all those green leaves helped hold the snow until the limbs started snapping. Two limbs are over a four-lane street but the city says they're my responsibility so this should prove interesting, holding a chainsaw in one hand and a cane in the other. I can see the city's point, though, because it's about time those of us in the top 1% who evade all taxes start paying our fair share. -Randy Quote

Mark D Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 My house is almost right underneath the 495 symbol... 2" less to shovel is a nice thing when its delivered saturdated with water. Quote
oldodge41 Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Calling for 4 - 7" here. Rain yesterday and froze over night. I couldn't get my car doors open due to being frozen shut this morning. I was lazy and just drove the truck. Man, I am not ready for this crap. Quote
Mark D Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 Revised forecast now includes loss of electricity. Thankfully I was able to scoot home before the sunset and take the car for a quick ride to gas her up, and throw a bottle of gas line antifreeze in the tank. Grabbed a six pack of local brew to tide me over. Now we sit and wait... Quote
TodFitch Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 ... and throw a bottle of gas line antifreeze in the tank... Seems like gas line antifreeze might be obsolete. With ethanol in the gas nowadays does adding a pint or so of additional ethanol do anything noticeable? (Mostly an intellectual question for me as I live in an area where water freezing in the fuel lines is not a problem.) Quote
Mark D Posted October 28, 2011 Report Posted October 28, 2011 1.29c insurance plan.... I guess. however I do know there are some gas stations here in Mass that are still selling the pure from the ground stuff. (at least thats what it says on the pump). Quote
greg g Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 OK lets back up a bit here, the knock on ethanol is that it is that Hydrogen bonding causes pure ethanol to be hygroscopic to the extent that it readily absorbs water from the air. I under stand that Methanol combines the Hydrogen with itself making it more flamable and leaving o2 which vents from the tank. Guess Ethanol attracts more water than it can combine with. and ethanol becomes denatured alcohol when methanol is added to it. I say pour some acetone in that puppy and let her rip.............. Mark D Posted October 29, 2011 Report Posted October 29, 2011 Greg - you lost me at bonding... failed chemistry terribly. If you're telling me that it was a 1.29 in the toilet, I'll never do it again. Old habits die hard, but are not immortal. Quote

Mark D Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 The power finally came back on at my house last night at 5pm. Quote
Mark D Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Dang! Thats a long time without juice. How long 'til the beer is cold? As soon as the power went out the beer went into the snow bank... Quote
Dan Hiebert Posted November 4, 2011 Report Posted November 4, 2011 Well, that's ONE benefit of winter. You can leave the beer in the car trunk, or on the porch, and its nice and cold. And that snow bank by the garage door is closer than walking into the house for "a-nurn". (My garage is separate from the house.) Buffalo didn't get a speck of snow from that storm - we get a bad rap. My mom called from S. Texas to ask how we were weathering the storm - as I looked out upon a cloudless, snowfree sky. I rather enjoy calling my dad in New Mexio when its already snowed there, but has yet to here (he retired to the southwest to be out of the snow). Naturally he gives it back a month later when the dusting they got has long ago melted, and we're getting buried. Quote
