Pictures of my 46 D25

Hi there. I'm new here and I just wanted to post some pics of my 46 D25 sedan project. I've had it for almost exactly one year and these pics are from the day I brought it home. It's turned out to be a much bigger project than I ever expected when I bought it. I was originally going to look at a 49 Chevy truck in similar condition but we came to loggerheads over pricing and I ended up with this instead. It's been a ton of work to get it running and try bringing it up to safe roadworthiness standards after 30 years of rest. There are not many of these left where I live and the black 2 door appealled to me. I've had some great help from local folks who have helped me find parts that I need. There are still a few odds and ends that I can't track down. I hope to have it mechanically sound and on the road by the end of this Summer for a show and shine that I enjoy attending. Still have to finish the brake system, fuel lines and exhaust system. I'm hoping I won't run into any surprises when I try driving it the first time. I'm a bit concerned that there was a spare transmission in the trunk! Just wish I had more time to work at it.

Hope you enjoy the photos.

Rick

Welcome to the forum! There are quite a few Canadians on the forum and some of them are D25 owners as well, myself included.

This is a great forum and the members are very helpful and willing to share their knowledge. We also love pictures so if you have any pictures of the car as it is now, we would love to see them. Good luck with the project.

Thanks Rockwood. That's a great looking car of yours. I'm just north of Winnipeg in Bird's Hill. I haven't seen your car around but I'll keep my eyes open. I don't know if you get out to any of the shows during the Summer but I'll be at the East St. Paul show on July 24 and if all goes well I really hope to have my car at Days of the Past in Beausejour on August 28.

Hi Rick, been to the East St Paul a few Years back, the last few years I was always working on the day of the show.

Will be at the Big Garden City SC show, maybe Beausejour, and hopefully wil be at Selkirk A&W on July 20th for the cruisin the dub night.

A lot of times the rain keeps me grounded, not because my car is so great, but I have almosty 3miles of gravel before reaching Hwy #9, and it is 1 hell of a mess after 3 miles of limestone and crud gravel.............Fred

Thanks for the pictoral inspiration Steve. What kind of trophy is perched under the hood of your car in that picture? Did you purchase the car in that condition or has it been a long term project for you? I'm looking at that beautiful trim and perfect parking light lenses and I'm getting jealous. Those lenses for the D25 have been really tough for me to find.

I was working on the car over the weekend. I thought I'd get the brake lines completed but unfortunately discovered some holes in the floor that need to be patched and my clutch bushing was shot. I think I'll have to have that part custom machined because it doesn't seem to be available. Oh well, a couple extra speedbumps to get over. I'm still targeting the end of August for passing the provincial safety inspection and getting on the road. Next year I can start thinking about how to approach the bodywork or maybe enjoy it as it is with all that fine patina.

Thanks Dale. I'll check that out. I think I've seen that website before and the prices were more than my budget could handle at this time. Too many other items that are way more critical than trim right now. The car has already gobbled up twice as much $$ than I originally expected. If it's not mechanically sound there's no point putting minty trim on it. A local parts dealer is restoring a 47 P15 convertible so he's always on the look out for much of the stuff that I need.

I was able to get some great parts from a local guy who's got a black D25 coupe very similar to yours. He's going with more of a street rod/rat rod look and removed most of his trim. He's also talking about removing his grille so I may be able to get that also as a spare. I purchased some great full size hub caps from him that I'm going to use on the car.

I am kind of partial to that satin black look myself. I'll have to see how my paint polishes up but I think any touch-ups are going to be in satin black for the best match. Besides that paint is still reasonably cheap and readily available compared to all the new low VOC paint.

Next week I should have it back on wheels and I can haul it out for some updated pictures. Great news that a friend of a friend agreed to machine a new clutch bushing for me. I thought that piece was going to hold up progress.

Thanks Fred. Norm is awesome. He has been a lifesaver. I've never seen a better source for hard to find parts. Some folks told me he is pricey but he's been super reasonable with me. I think in part he has a soft spot for these cars as he's working on one too.

I didn't see you at the show on Sunday. It was a real disappointment. Only about half the cars that were there last year. There was a whole row of PT Cruisers with all their teddy bears and decorations. Blegh!!! If I can make it Garden City that day I'll try to track you down there.
