There are a few things I am going to do to my 48 Windsor for safety's sake. first is to add seat belts. Next is making all three lights in the back come on when the brake is depressed. Before I do this I wanted to see if there was anyone that has done these so I do not re-invent anything. Also what else might you do for the sake of safety? I think disk brakes and modern tires should also be part of todays upgrade lists.

Is your car equipped with signal lights?? Makes a difference in how you wire it

Make sure you attach belts are anchored to the body and not to any frame components.

For the lights what I use when driving are a cheap ($9.99 on sale/coupon from Harbor Freight) set of magnetic trailer lights. I had to use a small file to change the light bulb sockets to fit my 6V bulbs, just spliced into the wires in the trunk. I put them out where visible when I drive and put them back in the trunk when I'm parked at a cruise-in....gives me much more confidence in the visibility of my lights and I'm sure they add an element of safety.

I purchased a light that was made by Bell that make lights and helmets. The light has a clip that permits me to clip it to my licence plate. It has several led lights and has about six diffenet flashing patterns. The cost was around $10 and runs on a battery and can be turned off when not in use.

I have this on a 39 Desoto so the licence plate is onthe truck lid and is at the perfect height for everyone to see. It does help even in the day time.

I have a third brake lite that uses sucsion cups and it is in the back window you can adust it with some additiona braket. It is also tied into the taillights and turn signals.

This is the way to go and aaca will not take off point when the car is being judged.

Some good ideas. What I was thinking was using the turn signals for brakes and turns. I know that there needs to be a duel filament bulb but I am also wondering if there are some six volt LEDs that I could use wired to the brakelight but inserted into the turn lights.

Spyder,

I know very little about LED's other than what I've read in posts here but several members have discussed 6v LED's and evidently they are coming on the market for our cars. They aren't cheap because every one of those weenie little lights needs its own circuit but I think a few members have already switched over and were happy with them.

This may be a place where a forum search might produce good results without all the mucking-about that most searches require. Click the search button at the top of the page and write something like, "6v LED" in the box. I haven't tried that search yet but it should pay off.

Seat belts, dual bowl master cylinder with disc brakes and all three lights in the rear serve as brake lights on my 48 Dodge.

The center mounted stop light on my p15 works great, but I too worry about the dual filament bulbs not being bright enough. More recently I've been driving about and find that people are so interested to see the car that they tail gate within feet of the bumper. I'm actually considering a scrolling sign in my rear view window asking people back off for safety sake. I've also bought a couple of small bullet style single lamp LED's from Ebay last week. Going to rig them up so they flash with the signal lights, but they'll be mounted in the top open holes on the license plate.

For those who have converted to 12 volts you might consider the Technostalgia LED new assemblies.

+1

I have the Technostalgia lights on my 47 and I love 'em.

In order to incorporate your brake lights into the tail lights, you will need to wire in some relay switches.

This will allow the brake lights(both in tail lights and stop lamp on trunk lid) signal lights and tail lights to work in conjunction with each other.

The problem is the stock C38 Chrysler signal switch is a 3 wire deal, and not a 7 wire type, it basically will not cancel 1 side of the brake circuit if you put on your signals, this is where the relays come into play, to allow this to work together.

I have some simple wiring diagrams that you can have if you like to make this set-up work....

Would love to have a copy. Thanks for the offer.
