I have started the tear down of my 1947 Plymouth 4 Dr Sedan, Special Deluxe. I will be doing a frame off restoration on it this winter. I have always wondered but never see any information about what the trunk looked like? Was it a rubber mat or fabrics? Can someone post some pictures?

I have a deluxe that has its original ribbed rubber mat. there should also be a leather patterned paper board trim piece covering the trunk to pass compartment bulkhead. The pattern is the same as onthe package shelf cover.

Did the trunk ever come with carpet?

Only if you wanted it that way, but not from the factory. A dealer is always willing to satisfy the customer, esp. if it means a few more dollars his way.

My trunk is carpeted, but that is what my upholsterer and I decided to do because I wanted to.

Funny you asked what's in the trunk? I went to a cruise in Saturday night and took my girlfriend and her 3 year old daughter. She wanted to get in the trunk and sit. It reminded me of when I used to do that at her age.

Here are some pics of my trunk. I used a roll of carpet from wally world and cut it to fit the floor. Then I used a rubber mat and cut it to fit the carpet. Glued them both together and it sits in nicely, doesn't bunch up. I did use a piece of cardboard and make a template before cutting out the carpet.

Here is the trunk of my 47 Chrysler Coupe, going to install new carpet with edges bound, and make new partition panel for behind the rear seat, plan to use hard board panel, with insulation, and covered in material.

I had the upholstry guy cut and bind a carpet for my trunk.

Then I took some lightweight posterboard/cardboard from the

craft store and covered them with the same vinyl as my door

panels. So, nowhere near original, but I happen to like it.

I enjoy making displays in the trunk for car shows.....

Don, if there were hills back there, I'd think those pics came out of the hill country up here in Norhteast TN, but it looks fairly flat there. I remember, as a kid, driving up into Johnson County a couple of days before hunting season doing some scouting, and stumbling upon an old defunct still in the woods. No coincidence the area was called Copperhead Road (my uncle called it Snake Holler)? Inspiration for Steve Earle's song?

One of my high school friends had an uncle that made moonshine back in the day. He used to tell the tale of a Revenuer visiting his uncle's farm one day, and nobody ever saw the Revenuer again.....tall tale?....I don't know. My friend and his sister told it as the truth.
