Is there a lot of difference between a P26 (1955) engine

and a 218 T173 1950.

I know cu is different, but what about fitting it in a Dodge B2B 1/2 Ton

Can I use the P26 with a standard Dodge B2B gearbox?

Its just that I can buy one which is running , just in case my 218 has issues with being rebored etc.. Just as a spare?

Are they both 23 or 25in blocks? Do you know what kind of trans was behind the 55 engine? Only issue I can think of is if the 55 was a powerflite model the pilot bushing might not have a proper bore.

The 218 is a Canadian long block..25+inch, not sure what the P26 is, will measure tomorrow. and see what trans was used..The Bell housing is still on it.

As for the comments, Thanks!, but I am already lost when you talk about a Pilot Bushing (type of airoplain?) and the bore bit...:D.

I am sorry, you have to explain this to a total dummy.. ME!:eek:

my 56 engine is a p 28, are you sure its a 55??? Wouldn't that make a p26 block from a 54 Plymouth? If 54, it was a change over year, some had 218's some were 230. You will need to measure the stroke.

hi Tony, if needed, would I be able to use this one in my truck?

P26 in Australia were used in 55 and 56 and are the 230cu", 3 1/4" bore.

It would pay to measure as the 251 was also available at the same time.

Nope, the Kew I got it turning free, and then sold it...The problem is that the reconditioner guy is hesitant reconditioning my 218 engine. It took a lot of talking, finally he is goin to do it.. I just buy this P26 engine as aspare knowing it was going.. $150 bucks is ok for that.

You could but you will need to modify the front engine mount and extend the radiator side support panels to allow for the 2" shorter motor.

Do you still have the KEW motor?

Well I`ll be, the sump is the right way round.

One thing I had not thought of is the exhaust. The clutch pedal might interfear wih the rear exit manifold.

With the 2 bolts, are they the ones at the rear. I think thats were the throttle crossover goes on the LHD cars.

Anyone have a source for the throw-away-type oil filter canister?

A year or two ago I got an email from a company in India that claimed to be manufacturing them. I guess they thought I was a vendor even though I think it is pretty clear from my web site that I am not. I have long since discarded the email and don't remember the URL for their web site but I would not be too surprised if they are the source for vendors like Roberts who still carry that filter.
