_shel_ny Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Michael, you already have a solution to this. You posted it yourself. NOS ready to go. No shaving the head(unless you want too) No playing "head" games. (not you) No get it, and find out it isn't exactly what you want, or even with good intentions, does not meet your needs. Head should already be prepped and installed by now:) snippet from an earlier post in this thread: well if no one pans out a head for me, my good friend in Georgia Franky Michell has nos heads for a 218, only issue he wants $295.00
michael.warshaw Posted May 3, 2010 Author Report Posted May 3, 2010 i agree 10000 perecent but i dont think frank has it in the end.
james curl Posted May 3, 2010 Report Posted May 3, 2010 Michael, where is the cast date on the head and what time frame do you need to be correct? I have the original head from my 48 Plymouth would not sell unless I received a good head in exchange as I will need it when I install the 230 crank and rods I have into my original block so that I can put it back into my car at a later time or when my wife sells the car after I die I would want the original engine to go to the new owner. I have all of the stock parts from the engine which is apart waiting until I get a spare thousand or two for a complete re-manufacture with all new parts. I now have a modified 41 Dodge 218 in the car.
michael.warshaw Posted May 4, 2010 Author Report Posted May 4, 2010 very kind pf you mr curl, i would like it to have a p thays all. does yours have that?
james curl Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 I will have to check, it is stored in a chest in my garage along with all of the other parts, I will try to see tomorrow, I am having back surgery on Thrusday and will be out of commission as far as lifting anything for the first 10 days. If it does, and you want it I will be glad to trade for yours if it is good, but you would have to pay the shipping for both heads. I have no idea of any code cast into the head at this time. I will tell you more late tomorrow.
Plymouthy Adams Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 (edited) Truly I got to question the motives of the requester..I personally feel that he is using this board not only as sole parts source but as a tool to do his looking for him. This is now and in the past been his MO. To convince me he is looking for this part himself..nope, notta and no way..I watch with interest the one that just closed on our favorite parts source..could have been had for less than 35.00 and it was a genuine "P" head..I figure in the end there would be a snipe bid at minimum to secure this item. So while you folks want to join in and play his game, do his research, scrounge for his parts, well you evidently either have more time on your hands than most or yet you got something to prove to the world about some infinite amount of wisdom you just gotta display in text...I could say more but don't think it would be of any benefit at this time...I have never refused to help someone who is honestly trying... james curl Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Michael, sorry to get your hopes up but my original 48 Plymouth head does not have a letter of any type on it. However it does have a series of numbers that mean nothing to me. I am sure that are not a date code for the head, more like a mold number. I have only seen the letter on my 41 Dodge head which has a raised D cast on it. Good luck in your quest.
55 Fargo Posted May 4, 2010 Report Posted May 4, 2010 Michael, Earl Edgerton in So Cal, can cutom cast you the exact head you need, why don't you give him a call, won't be cheap. But it seems you want the best, so call Edgy, see if he can make you a head

I quote myself for the fact a concerned friend whom I respect pointed out that I was a bit rough..looking back and reading it again as written, I agree..so to qualify what I wrote I need to add this; for those who have knowledge and share here it is what the forum is all about and each and every one is to be commended, however my intent was to say that should this fall on deaf ears, advice and wisdom ignored, the rant goes on and on and no specific questions are ever answered..then all this is a waste of time and effort..my apologies should I have offended anyone..

little48 Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Hi Michael Ive Changed my mind on makeing you pay for the shipping on the head that I'm going to give you I will pay shipping and the head is also still free I think we all need to focucs on the brotherhood on keeping these cars alive and not what parts are worth.I'm not trying to step on anyone but if I have six of these heads I can let one go just to end the drama.
1947PLEVY Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 My 2 cents on this post: It was started about a month ago. Alot of very good ideas and suggestions were posted on here. Some were heeded and some were not. For a man to say it's easier to work and bill someone else for his profit, then pay someone else to do the work on HIS car for him. (Not knowing much about the car itself) is just idiotic to me. Kinda sounds like my wife. Knows how to start it and drive, but thats it!!! Mike: Do you work weekends? If not take that time and go do something to your car..When I started 5 yrs ago on mine, I had basic knowledge of the car, They are very simple. All this started with a generator problem. I believe.. Mike, you could of left the car alone and bought a street-rod or some other kind that suited you and stil had a VERY decent old plymouth.. Just my opinion. Don't mean to stir up anything..John

Don't mean to stir up anything..John so your saying that I SHOULD work on MY OWN car and not having it come out right DUE TO THE FACT im not experienced in that field RATHER then to paying somone who knows is better? are you joking you make no sense. id rather it pay to come out right, then me do it, for example i needed a new driveway instead of calling the local contractor to do it for 7k, i should go rent a cement truck and a steam roller and do it my self, i can rent it for about $1500.00, and the materias will be about another $1500, and that is a $4000.00 savings, BUT I DONT KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT POURING CONCRETE OR BLACKTOP, YE YOU HAVE A GOOD POINT! not trying to stir the pot, well these comments are not adding to our great forum here. Edited May 5, 2010 by michael.warshaw
Captain Neon Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Makes sense to me, since pouring concrete and laying blacktop for a driveway are really pretty easy. Proper excavation is what can be tricky.
michael.warshaw Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 nothing in life is easy, that is why G-d made phone books and credit cards!
Young Ed Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 Have you made any donations to the forum since you believe in paying for others to do everything for you?
michael.warshaw Posted May 5, 2010 Author Report Posted May 5, 2010 no donations, but i would with out a doubt this forum has been very helpfull, even though i have had some hills to hurdle, with a few wild animals to defend myself from.
mackster Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 even though some thrash the forum, claiming it has a bad name all over, everyone knows..blah blah...I dare anyone to find a better place for their car! put up or shut up!
Captain Neon Posted May 5, 2010 Report Posted May 5, 2010 I've only heard third party reports disparaging this forum. Any one at all familiar with Internet forums has to realise that this is the cream of the crop. My own rule of thumb is comments using broadly inclusive language such as "everyone" and "no one" are best ignored as the speaker is either ignorant or using wild hyperbole. All I need do is find one outlier and the statement is moot. Would think some one that "argues for a living" would understand that concept, but again I only have a BS from Excelsior and work night shift as a factory supervisor. I myself would prefer a little more wild wild west, but I do appreciate the strong prohibitions on profanity and lewdness. BTW, at the risk of speaking of religion, I look through the Creation story in Genesis and see no where God creating credit cards and phone books. I need a reference for such a claim. Perhaps it is in the Talmud? I'm no rabbi so have not had the time or desire to study the entire Talmud as it would be akin to reading the Encyclopedia Brittanica.
