1940plymouth Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 We had a beautiful weekend here in the Catskills, both days there were motorcycles galore that drove by the house, not to mention convertibles with the top down. The only old car that I saw all weekend was mine, which I had out both days. I wonder why the old car owners didn't take advantage of such a beautiful weekend? We live on a well traveled road, so seems like I would have seen them if they drove by as we spent a good share of the day either outside or in the Plymouth. Am I a wacko for driving my '40 every chance I get when the weather permits? Old Plymouths and stone walls, got to love them. Thanks, Bob Quote
daddyo23 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 You have the same sickness I do. Any chance I get I fire it up and go out. I always try to make sure I run it far enough to fully warm it up as has been suggested here. But I do believe it is a type of disease, whether physical or mental, there are varying opinions on that. Just ask my wife:eek:. I believe it is physical because that ol' Plymouth of mine gets my blood rolling and heart pumping every time I take it out.It gets into your blood. My .02 Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I thought about taking my car out but as I have just increased the value of the car to reflect the new paint and interior, the increase does not apply till the 14th of this month...I wish not to meet up with Mr. Murphy.. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Both my car and truck are put away for winter already. I was sure wishing I had one available to take a ride in! I did get a ride in a friends 50 ply club coupe friday night. Deal for the 66 fury III wagon hasn't happened yet so couldn't even ride in that Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I had a 66 Fury wagon, well, I actually bought it and gave it to my dad..I had wrecked one of his cars and so replaced it with the wagon. Dad found the wagon an ideal platform, he has since had two other wagons and then bought a van, still owes a van. I got my Suburban out of the barn this weekend and back into the shop and on the lift. I put her in the air and made a quick list of items to bring up to speed. I am going to go for first engine start here real soon I hope...still got lots of planned family activity for the month of November..my first wagon, actually the first car I bought myself was a 1959 Fury 9 passenger...boy was that car fun as a teenager.. Quote
Young Ed Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Tim got any pics of that one? 6pass or 9? The one Dad should be buying soon is a 6pass with a 3832bbl. According to the records with the car its got 240K miles on it. Was bought by a family that traveled the country in the summers and stored it in the winters. Previous owner to the current one was some young kids using it to haul band equipment. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Ed...I am not sure if there are any pictures of that wagon, maybe at dad's house somewhere. It was a 6 passenger 318 torqueflite model with factory air and arrest me red paint. That was a very confortable wagon that was at home on the road..very nice crusier. Quote

michael.warshaw Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 as long as there is snow, you can drive. Quote
greg g Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I put mine in its winter position, and threw the cover on it the other day. Probably wolda had it out yesterday (today is even nicer) but had other stuff on the schedule. Had to put a new front axle bearing in my Exploder. Between rusted bolts, and breaking a socket, and a trip to Sears to replace it, it took more than the 1.5 hours the book suggested. Quote
Furylee2 Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 It was a fantastic weekend (sunny and 70’s) here in Nebraska as well. And no, you weren’t alone Bob, I had my 68 Fury III convertible, the 41 coupe, and the 37 Plymouth sedan out. Some of it was related to jockeying them around for winter storage, but I did put about 25 miles on the 37. Quote
1940plymouth Posted November 9, 2009 Author Report Posted November 9, 2009 Thanks for all the replies. Here are a couple I took today while we were out and about. I had never been up this road before, once the pavement ended I drove up in about half a mile or so, found a place to turn around, then took these photos. Once the pavement ends it becomes a seasonal road, but up aways there is a beaver dam and the road ends at that point. Still a nice ride just the same Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Bob, we were out both days. It's like you have to be in the right place at the right time. We went to the "church of the holy dounut on sunday. I think there were about 150 cars, We went up 4 deep all street rods. They had everything from Model A's to hot rod roadsters. We had a great time. You know I am always amazed that when I go out of town I don't see old, classic or hot rods on the road. It makes me sad not to see cars like we have on the road and being driven. I went to a car show up in Fredrick last month and saw a guy with his wife and daughter all riding in the front seat of a pontiac convertible. It was so nice I had a smile on my face for the rest of the trip. If you got...drive um;) LIfe is very short. Quote
james curl Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 Our car club took a tour to the next town over for our mounthly meeting and meal. I led the group of cars, 16 in all with the newest being a 56 Chevrolet Convert. It misted rain all the way over, about 40 miles of back roads to the cafe. After the meeting it poured all the way home and for about four more hours. Some of the street rods do not have windshield wipers as it distracts from the cars appearence, they sure needed them to get home. We passed a supper Wal Mart and no one stopped for Rain X. Quote
4852dodge Posted November 9, 2009 Report Posted November 9, 2009 I use my 48 B-1-D until it won't get out of the driveway because of snow. I put more miles on the old one than my 2004. Quote

Even in very small towns. Was in Hannable, MO several years ago with the wife. Wife and I were walking along Main Street in town doing a little window shopping. Parked in front of one store was about a 35 or 36 Ford pickup street rod. Then down at the end of the street saw two T-buckets coming around the corner. Lots of old cars for sale along the side of the road between St. Louis and Hannable for sale too. You just gotta hit the smaller towns. Quote
Rodney Bullock Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Rodney Were you in the "new" Chevy? Jim Yergin Yes, Sunday it was street rod day as all my friends with street rods had gas on their chest:D I must have put 100 miles on the car. Quote

I bet it was nice to see those cars in that setting. I think because you all were walking around and window shopping you caught these cars maybe I am missing stuff because I am traveling. Sometimes you got to stop and observe. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 10, 2009 Report Posted November 10, 2009 Rodney, I really think MO holds the record for the number of old cars in all my travels. About 2 years ago we took a trip to Branson, MO. On the freeway that runs along Old Route 66 between St. Louis and Springfield, you'd see cars parked along side the road, all for sale. Also a bunch of small body shops with old cars sitting outside them. Think it was about 4 years ago on a trip to Chattanooga, TN I also see several old cars. In Chattanooga, I parked at restaurant to eat right next to two 60's model MG's in the parking lot. On the way home from that trip we stopped for the night at a motel in Paduca, KY. Looked out the window of the room after checking in and there sat a real nice 50 Chevy fast back sitting on a trailer hooked up to a pickup truck. So........had to make a trip to get a better look at that one. On a trip to visit my mother a couple of years ago, we took her to Sunday breakfast at a nearby restaurant. Right across the street was a used car lot. They had a 38 Plymouth Coupe, 53 Chevy 2 door sitting on the lot for sale. So........after breakfast I pulled into the lot. Wanted to check out the 53 Chevy. Then I spotted two other 50's car (forgot the make of those) in the garage being worked on. The 38 Plymouth looked like the best of all of them though. The 53 Chevy turned out not to be all that great. That was in Louisville, KY. Guy at the lot said he was taking them to the NSRA National show the following weekend to try to sell them there. I seem to see them when I'm driving or walking around all the time. Quote
