Hi all, recently I have been trying to sell my 1955 Fargo 1/2 ton chassis complete with running engine, later model cordoba rear-end, 4 spd trans, asking $300.

So I am running my ad on usedwinnipeg.com, I get a response, this Guy wants the chassis, says he will buy it sight unseen, no conversation with me, no pics.

He insists that I give him my mailing address, actually wanted my home's physical address, as we have a PO Box.

I smell a rat, ask him for his phone number, send him mine, but he does not call, he insists he is buying this item, to send my info as he requested, and he will send me a cashiers check.

I send him an email, telling him I do not deal like this, only Pay Pal, for long distance transaction of this amount. I also write, will be forwarding this to the RCMP Fraudulent Crimes Division, never hear from this guy after this. He had a Yahoo email account, was somewhere in the USA according to him, I even explain the nature of customs, he did not care, stated his shipping company will take care of everything, yet he will not give me his phone number or phone me.

Gotta be a scammer, rip-off artist for sure.....Fred

His 1st email, OK, i will like to purchase it, I would have loved to come in person, but due to the nature of my work, I won't be able to.I will be making Payment by Cashier Check, the check will get to you in 2-3 days and when you got the check you go head in cashing the check at your Bank,i will wait for you to confirm and clear the check before any further transaction. So get back to me with your full name, address, city, state and Zip Code and your mobile phone number to write the check out (No p.o.box please). And concerning the shipping i will handle the shipping via my shipping company,so all i need to do now is to send you a check of excess fund so you can deduct your money and send the excess to my shipper who is currently in Pennsylvania,he will come for the pick at your residence after the check clears.so get back to me with the info to send the check out.please contact me now for immediate arrangement. Thanks

Roger Yost

His 2nd email, Do not worry about this..My shipping company will take care of this..Kindly reply me back with the details of the information i requested for so that i can go on and issue the check..Kindly get back to me as soon as possible..

Thanks Roger

..I placed an ad in another club's classified, parts wanted, on-line and almost immediately,my email was filled with a number of nuisance scam emails probably from Nigeria.I pulled the ad .Conversely,I placed an ad in the P15 D24 classified and never had a reply - which was okay.

I had a email from someone in Texas on another forum who wanted to buy my 52 suburban. I do not have it for sale and it was his 1st and only post on that site. Could have been someone who just wanted a car like it but it was a little strange.

Fred thats a common scam. The check you would have gotten would have been for way over the asking price. After you deposited it they would ask for a refund. Shortly after that you'd find out their check was no good and you gave them cash.

Why would anyone do that?

Yah no kiddin........LOL, the way this guy, or whoever writes, you can tell English is not there first language.

The check is more than the purchase price. You deposit the check in your bank and send a money order for the excess. They cahs you money order then in a couple of weeks your bank tells you the original money order was no good. Then your bank takes the money from your account to cover the original bad money order.

I had an old sewing listed on crageslist. and the same guy wonted to buy it. same thing . like was mentioned english was not very good. he said I send you cashiers check for more including freight. you send me what is left. I deleted all the rest of his emails finaly he gave up. you gota be carefull out there.

I figured that was the purpose of sending excess funds but why wouldn't the guy pay his shipper himself? Why would he ask you to do it for him? And why wouldn't he see that his would-be victims would find this weird? I think this is a scam artist in need of a better scam. Either that or he should keep his day job.

This scam has been around a long time and lots of people have fallen for it loosing 1000s. Its usually for the purchase of a car and then they send money to the car transport. The big clue is they have no interest in the actual product.

This is why I will always have a job in my line of business, as criminals will always be part of our world.....

I advertised a guitar amplifier on a St Louis, MO music classified site several years

ago. Got the same scam letter back then. Actually the webmaster issued a warning

up front that a person might likely receive such an e- mail.

People even get those when they place an ad in the local newspapers. One of the giveaways on this one is he's sending you the money to pay the freight company.

When making deals like these, I always verify the information given to me, like the address and phone number of the individual I'm dealing with. Even money orders can be bogus, so I verify the addresses on those too. We even do that when we take a credit card order from a new customer. We check to see that the addresses and phone numbers match up with the company involved, prior to processing the order or credit card.

What I meant was why would anyone agree to that arrangement. Probably nine out of ten people won't fall for it but it just takes one who will.

That's true, and you hear about those people who do fall for it on the news a lot of times. Even professional people like doctors, etc., have fallen prey to those schemes.

It doesn't matter what you're trying to sell nowadays. I had a condo for rent online (craigslist and the local Medical University were the worst for scammers). Anyway, one email wanted to send me money for an entire year of rent plus some extra which I would send back to him so he'd have money to furnish the place. Uh, yeah right.

I just had an ad on Craigs list for a 100 dollar set of OLD kitchen tear out cupboards. The same darn guy wanted those in the worst way to ship back to his place,,,,OKAY,,,,HELLO,,,Do you report those to Craigs list??

Best place for these cupboards would be in a garage or shop and used for clean storage of those valuables. Closing the doors keeps the dust down to a dull roar,,,but NOT in Nigeria. Course he just wants to keep dust off MY money!!

HA HA HA. That's funny. I wonder if these guys have real jobs or if they spend the day on the Internet looking for people with heavy objects for sale.

I walked by the Nigerian embassy one day here in Washington, and it seemed like the whole staff was out on the sidewalk making cat calls at the women walking by. Then it's back inside for a rousing afternoon of scanning Craigslist.

Dear perspective buyer,

As it is apparant that somebody owes you an extra mount of money and that you have a shipper (purchasing agent) within the states. Please do not waste your time and mine with overpayment. Instead, send overpayment to your shipper/purchaser as you seem to deal with him a lot and let him show up at my door with cash. If this is not suitable then by all means please and I do mean please, look elsewhere for your purchases...

Thanks you,

scam educated seller

No, Tim, that would ruin everything. That reminds me of that joke about answering the phone when a telemarketer calls and saying, "I can't talk to you right now, but why don't you give me your home phone number and I'll call you tonight around dinner time. How's that?"
