48mirage Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I don't usually post links to the *bay, but I thought this one was deserving for it's historical value. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/flathead-l6-dodge-hall-of-fame-drag-race-mooneyham_W0QQitemZ170373898354QQcmdZViewItemQQptZMotors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item27ab136072&_trksid=p4506.c0.m245 Quote
Normspeed Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Interesting. I see he was running the carb linkage that comes with the Offy intake, and looks like a single exhaust setup. Quote
dezeldoc Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Uh he wants to be paid back for using paypal, good luck with that. lets see how long that lasts before ebay sees that! where is the supporting docs to insure it was infact mooneyham's? Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Interesting that he posted the engine casting numbers not the engine serial number. Also I believe this is a truck bell housing and transmission. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Sure looks like a truck trans and bellhousing to me too. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Interesting that he posted the engine casting numbers not the engine serial number. Also I believe this is a truck bell housing and transmission. I sent him an E-Mail asking about the engine serial number and he said that he would get back to my after dinner with the number if there is one. Dennis:cool: Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I also noticed an alternator on the engine. Quote
james curl Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) I believe it is obvious that he expect to receive a large sum of money for the engine. Did he say anywhere that the engine turns freely or is it stuck? If I were to have the engine I would have put it on an engine run stand and started it and let it run. then done a compression check and record the oil pressure so that people would have a good idea what they were bidding on. He thinks the engine has historical value because it once belonged to a "Legend". Edited August 20, 2009 by james curl correct spelling Quote
HalfdollarMayflower Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 Sure looks like a truck trans and bellhousing to me too. He also sold some Dodge truck parts too....hmmm http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170343243605 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=160342174618 And he's only been selling since June 11th....not sure what to make of that Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 check again gents..the listing is no longer valid... Quote
james curl Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 (edited) I just tried to open the site to look at the other stuff he had listed at the bottom of the page, a custom Dodge/Plymouth exhaust manifold, by custom he must have meant the automatic choke mechanism on the manifold. He also had a clutch, flywheel and pressure plate from a De Soto plus others that I failed to see. I tried to see more and the site shut down. I just tried to open the site and e bay says the ad has been pulled. Edited August 20, 2009 by james curl Quote
dezeldoc Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 I did not think it would last to long, they frown on trying to recoup the pp fees, i have seen quite a few pulled because of it. Quote
RobertKB Posted August 20, 2009 Report Posted August 20, 2009 As a seller, I figure out what I want for the item and then add on my fees for ebay and PayPal before I list. That's the only way to recoup PayPal fees without getting them pissed off at you. Quote

greg g Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 also here; http://lasvegas.craigslist.org/pts/1328236574.html sent him a question asking to post the engine number, and a pic of the front motor mount, and a couple of other things. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted August 21, 2009 Report Posted August 21, 2009 I also sent him an e-mail asking about the serial number and some other things. I was going to send my son over to look at it, but the $2500 price is a little steep for me. Dennis:cool: Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 This is also posted on the HAMB. Dennis:rolleyes: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=390714 Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I just received this information back from him. "yes sir- i posted new info on the auction, the engine is 23" and the number i read is T575347, thanks and lemme know if you need anything else" So it looks like it's a truck engine. Dennis:cool: Quote
Normspeed Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 If it's the real deal and was set up nicely by Mooneyham, $2500 is not that far off the mark. I would say I have that much into my engine if I add up the machine shop parts and labor plus the separate components I bought, like the split exhaust, Offy intake, etc. Of course, that was California dollars. (There's a conversion table somewhere to compare with real world dollars.) Quote
james curl Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I have that many Texas dollars in my engine and I do not think that it is any better than yours or as good as I only did 4600 miles on my trip. How many times did you drive yours to and from Calif to Demming NM and back? How many miles is that, about 1200 each way? Plus the 6000 more this spring, I think that was money well spent. Quote
Normspeed Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I agree James, they did a good job at the machine shop. I've got around 20,000 on the motor now. Made 3 of those California to New Mexico turnarounds at about 1400 miles each, and a number of camping trips pulling the teardrop too. Your motor fires fight up and it's hard to tell she's running. Smoooth! I think you also got your money's worth. Quote
dezeldoc Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I am calling BS on this!! the guy is a rube and shister. Quote
Don Coatney Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 I ask the seller for documentation and this is his response. i bought it first hand from gene of moon equipped, who was a former employee of mooneyham. the guy's name is gene actually but not gene mooneyham of course. His death was untimely as it was pneumonia that got him, however the guy from moon knew him like i said and at the time of his illness the last thing on everyones mind was documenting his personal effects. if you called moon and told em you wanted to talk to gene, also let em know its the gene who ran there event booths and display's, also another way to identify this gene is that he hurt his back real bad unloading a tool cart off the trailer. they should know who your talking about, as far the truck thing, im pretty sure its just a truck trans and front motor mount setup with a 23" car engine, and i know for a fact that the setup was installed and raced in a roadster, which would have been mooneyhams first car, so if you call moon equipped they should be able to verify all of this for you. thanks for the interest - j Quote
greg g Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 the T serial number attests to it being a truck engine. Maybe it was easier to do a truck bellhounsing in g a modidied frame. Quote
Young Ed Posted August 22, 2009 Report Posted August 22, 2009 Greg since the truck bellhousings mount to the sides instead of rest on a cross member thats very likely. T57 is a 37-38 truck engine and I think only a 201. scary stuff Quote
