Reg Evans Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I just got an email from my wife saying that she would like me to start hanging christmas lights this evening. She also asked if I could pretend that I enjoy this yearly ritual. So, I wanted to poll the members here to see how you feel about "hanging the lights" Quote
blueskies Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 LOL... see my post in reply to Ed's Christmas lights... I love the look of the neighborhood all dressed in lights for the holidays. That said, for some reason, I absolutely hate putting up my lights. Probably because when it's time, I have a dozen other things to get done, and it usually turns bitter cold and snows a foot at the same time. Maybe I should just leave them up like my wife's family... They have been stapled to the roof so long now that the color in the bulbs is gone... and are likely a fire hazard too... Pete Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 When I put up the Christmas lights few years ago, I put them to where no one could find them... Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Reg; You missed my favorite choice. "I let the wife take care of hanging the lights." Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 4, 2008 Author Report Posted December 4, 2008 Can I add that choice to the poll or is it too late? I use to get away with that one too Don because the 2 daughters were still at home and all three of them did it. The youngest moved out last year and I've been elected. The funniest part of this is that she wants me to "look like I'm enjoying myself" Don't forget to vote ! Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 my choice of no..don't hang them anywhere is not on there....so I vote neutral I guess.. Quote
dirty dan Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 This is the first year we have the boys moved out. I don't intend to hang exterior lights this year. I love the way they look, I'm just getting lazy. Quote
Dennis Hemingway Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 If you see my post in reply to Ed's Christmas lights, You will see the only decoration I put up. Dennis:cool: Quote
oldmopar Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 In 30 years and 3 houses never hung out side lights. Like that famous ad against drugs I just say No. They do look nice and I do appreciate others who put them up. I also enjoy seeing them still up in July I guess they are more fun to put up then take down. Quote
dezeldoc Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 They do look nice and I do appreciate others who put them up. My next door neighbor has had them up for the past 3yrs straight, but when thsy repo'd the house that was the first thing I made sure they did, pull them down!! she had some wraped around a tree and the bark was starting to cover them up!! For some reason this year the stores had the displays up a few weeks before halloween!! what gives?? used to be after thanksgiving the displays would go up but it seems now everything is in a rush. Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 hence the word....MOST....!! keep the money...I will be passing through the boro again some day...maybe sooner than you think... Quote
Young Ed Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 I had some net lights that were over the 2 bushes that used to be in front of my house. They were lit up for 1 christmas. I never took them off in the spring and the bushes grew around them. Pulled the bushes out a year or so ago and the lights went with them. I do have a christmas tree at home this year Quote
Captain Neon Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 A tree and a few lights inside are enough for me. The wife is disappointed that I didn't get lights up outside this year. With few days off and lots of painting to do inside, I just decided not to do it. Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 6, 2008 Report Posted December 6, 2008 Just Came in from putting them up, thank goodness for a small house, don't feel neutral anymore, just cold! I want to change my vote to, PBR and watch football, NAVY 34-ARMY 0, 7 wins in a row for Navy. Quote

Reg Evans Posted December 7, 2008 Author Report Posted December 7, 2008 Well...the survey has ended and the results have giving me the courage to let my better half hang the lights. I hope the marriage doesn't end as abruptly as this survey has. My mother in law is even here helping. I'm either really brave or just plain stupid cause the mo-in-law is carrying a hammer. This may be my last post. Just in case.......HAPPY HOLIDAYS !!! Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 Reg; I have been to your house. You live in a remote area. Your house cannot be seen by your neighbors. There will not be a christmas parade down your street. I think you are hanging lights to impress the cats as they seem to be the only ones interested. Quote
Don Coatney Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 About the survey.... Do you suppose the 3 who voted that they really enjoy hanging lights have balls (Christmas balls of course) enough to come out of the closet? Now it will not surprise me if Norms Coupe comes out of the closet but he has nothing to loose:D Quote
Frank Elder Posted December 7, 2008 Report Posted December 7, 2008 2 of the cats look like they are about to square off under the ladder. Quote
