blueskies Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Ed- Thanks for the laugh... Reminds me of the year my wife "had" to have the Icicle lights around our porch. She bought the boxes and boxes of these lights, and it was my job to put them up... After removing nearly a thousand twist ties from all the lights, and trying to straighten out all the dangly wires, and getting out the ladder, and getting the ladder stuck in the snow bank repeatedly, and after losing the feeling in my fingers, and after running cords everywhere because only three or four strands could be plugged in in series, and after replacing those damn teeny fuses in the end of the plugs for half the strands because I had already tried to plug them all in together anyway, I finally got the damn things up. When I plugged them in, I found that about half of them worked half of the time, because straightening out the dangly wires so they would dangle made them short out. Depending on which way the wind blew, some of them were on, or off. A few days later, we had a warm day, and the snow melted on the roof long enough to cause real icicles that ran down over the lights. The ice was heavy, so I tried to bust off one of the larger icicles that was hanging on the wires, and like dominos, the lights came off the roof all the way around the house and landed in the yard, blinking off and on. At that point, I decided the hell with it, we didn't need lights for christmas. I left them in the snow bank till spring when the snow melted, and tossed them. Ever since, our lights have looked alot like your picture above, and my wife still isn't sure why. :D Pete Quote
Reg Evans Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Great posts guys ! I'm glad to learn that I'm not the only Grinch here. Ed's post inspired me to start a poll on the subject. Besides the hanging of Christmas lights my wife has a special request this year for the tree because we have 3 new kitties living with us now. She wants me to remove the mounted deer head and rig up a tree above the door out of reach of these little vandals. My idea of setting up the slide projector with a slide of last years tree didn't go over very well. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 maybe you ought to approach her with your sudden desire to help out planet earth by "going green" this year Quote

55 Fargo Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Hello All, It's that time of year again. The Mrs. has been on my case to get the Christmas lights up for a couple of weeks. They are up now and for some reason she will not talk to me. Ed, I had this forwarded to me at work from a Co-worker, so it's getting around on both sides of the border......Fred Quote
randroid Posted December 4, 2008 Report Posted December 4, 2008 Reg, An alternative might be to ask her to stand in the living room and, while she is focusing on where the tree should be, have her tell you what time it is. Once she gets it right you'll be happy to have further discussion about the tree. -Randy Quote

1947PLEVY Posted December 5, 2008 Report Posted December 5, 2008 Don: I was wondering where it went, but since you've had it a while. Possession is 9/10 of the law, so go ahead and keep it. John 47Plevy Quote
