Frank Elder Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 This last spring there was a pretty good hailstorm on the way and Esmey pulled the coupe out of the garage while I was at work and parked that mongrel of hers in the garage! 2007 Cobalt. At least she put some old carpet on top of the dodge before consigning it to the weather. Needless to say it is still outside.Whsssst Meow! I know, whipped! Mackster I know you've heard this before, But poppi, I had to! Has anyone else had to fight for their last bastion of manliness? Pretty sure I've lost this one until the carport gets built this spring:o ! Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 You need to "MAN UP" here. While she is gone park your car in the garage and hide the keys:cool: Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 There are numerous car covers available in varying qualities and costs. If you think it might hail again, put some carpet on the top and hood, then cover. I get half the garage for the Plymouth. Her PT gets the other half. The Caravan sits outside. Guess I can't complain. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 15, 2008 Author Report Posted November 15, 2008 16 wide 24 deep, 9 ft door....not made for two dad blast it! Pretty good size for its age though, 2 years older than my 47. Quote
Don Coatney Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 The house belongs to Lisa. The garage belongs to me. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 15, 2008 Author Report Posted November 15, 2008 I guess I had better assert my garage rights! Or all I'll have are my lefts, left out in the cold, left out in the mud, left muttering in the wind. Methinks lefts are no good! Quote
Bodacious Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Sorry, harsh I know.... I guess you'll have to build that carport to get your card back. Quote
greg g Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Get one of those pipe and canvas temproray carport deals. Erect it infront of tha garage, after the dodge goes back in. That way here GM beater can be parked out fo the weather while you reclaim your rightful working and storage space. Several styles to choose from here; http://www.portablegaragedepot.com/index.cfm?catid=58 Next thing you'll be asking if you can go along when she goes to the Cristmas Tree Shop. Act soon or you will havve no street credability left. Quote
Plymouthy Adams Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Frankie...at the house the shop/garage and barn are all MINE...and at the moment..I have painted car panels in 3 other rooms inside the house awaiting assembly...perhaps (and I put my life in my own hands here) it is time to show her the kitchen, laundry room and bed room and their use within her world...now if she is paying the bills...then all the above is moot... and the fact it is your wife and not mine allows me to say all this... Dennis Hemingway Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 You need to build you a small garage like mine. Dennis;) Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 15, 2008 Author Report Posted November 15, 2008 Stop all the abuse!!! I'm going outside to measure for the cement forms today...lol..I am lucky in one respect,I have the keys to our big rig repair shop & equipment 24-7. Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 I don't blame your wife for putting her 07 Colbalt in the garage instead of the old Plymouth. If I only had a one car garage I certainly wouldn't keep my P15 in it and let my wife's car sit outside. The P15 would be outside. However, I do the same as BobT does. Wife parks her car on one side of the garage and the coupe on the other side. My Lumina van sits outside in the weather. Hail won't dent it because it has the resin body. Worse case would be a cracked or broken window in a hail storm, which is an easy fix and covered by insurance. Bob, pretty soon you won't have room for your convertible or the wife's PT in the garage. I'll bet if you put all that stuff on the sides of the cars in a shed, you might even get a mini cooper parked in there. Quote
pflaming Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 You need to first consider which one you want to sleep with. I once had garage, single, which I lived in Millard, NE. I could back one car in so that it was in the far back corner, then drive in the second, but then I had a Fairlane 500 and VW Bug so that might not work. In Omaha, hail is like mosquitoes, part of the way of life! Been there! Quote
cwcars88 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 My pick-up and my wifes olds sets out side in the weather, no complaints from her. My street rods and my stock unrestoried daily driver 46 P-15 is under cover. No matter how well I care for the new iron it will be in the crusher someday, but I hope the old iron will live for ever. knuckleharley Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I say get rid of the wife. Then you won't have to worry about her car because chances are she will take it with her when she leaves. This is especially true if you are over 60,because there are tons of geezer women out there in that age category, and finding a replacement will be easy. Try to find one with her own money. Maybe even her own house. Then talk her into living there, and only coming over to cook and clean for you and then go back home. Then again,my attitude is probably one reason I'm not married. Quote
Frank Elder Posted November 16, 2008 Author Report Posted November 16, 2008 Married for 22 years, together for 30. Not going to let a garage become an issue. Carport slab will be a start, can't afford to build whole thing in one shot. Pain in the rear, my Esmey, ain't life grand!! PS Bet she claims her squatter's rights after the carport is completed. Sometimes I really miss the old girl.[/quote'] Norm, Wife has nothing to do with what I said. Lately I've been thinking of trading in the 95 Lumina van for a new van or SUV (2 wheel drive only). When I think about it though, it would cause a problem for the P15 parking. I would not keep two newer cars outside in the weather. So........the P15 would then be parked outside. Lets face it, the P15 will take hail a lot better than a newer car will because the steel is a lot heavier. Anyway, that is one thing holding me back right now from trading in the van. Quote
BobT-47P15 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Norm......the stuff on her side of the garage is pretty much hers. Stuff on my half is mine......car and music stuff, mainly. You're right.....if i could get all that out, i could also park the little 79 Toyota in there.....it's even smaller than the PT. You mentioned storage shed......the one we have is mostly full....most of which is my junk, too. I suggested we could either get a larger building or a second one......her reply was: how about getting rid of some-a that junk????? Quote
Norm's Coupe Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 You mentioned storage shed......the one we have is mostly full....most of which is my junk, too. I suggested we could either get a larger building or a second one......her reply was: how about getting rid of some-a that junk????? Bob, Sounds like the wife has a point. Some of her stuff could probably go as well. A few years ago you could barely walk in our basement for the stuff the wife and I collected. Garage was stuffed as well as the shed. Then I went on a tossing binge and that inspired the wife to do the same. Most of the stuff we had laying around was probably useful, but we didn't use it for years and probably never would again. So...........out it all went. Some of it we donated to Goodwill, the rest went out into the street for the garbage collection (and some of that was picked up by people just passing by), or we gave it to a friend. Now, you can get lots of stuff in the garage, basement or the shed. I can actually put all the yard stuff in the shed for winter and still have a path to walk in there now. You have to get brutal and be determined. For example: In the shed I had two good complete roof coating pumps, plus an extra pump that didn't work that was used for pumps. All three were packed in crates about the size of a casket. Plus a 55 gallon drum with about 200 feet of heavy duty material transfer hose used (almost new) for the pumps packed in a 55 gallon drum. That hose alone was about $600 new (hydraulic hose rated for 4400 lb. burst pressure, wire reinforced buna hose rated for oil based chemicals). Total used value of that equipment was about $6,000. Had stored them in the shed since we got out of the roofing business in the late 90's. But.........about two years ago I decided I was tired of storing them. So........out the pumps went for scrap and gave the hose away because I didn't want the hassle of trying to sell it. Plus if I had tried to sell it I would have to store it longer until it was sold. I wanted it out of the shed then and now. Was actually a good feeling seeing it leave the shed and I haven't regretted dumping the $6600 worth of stuff at all. Ever since then, I go on a dumping spree sometime between January and March and dump anything that we haven't used for a year or two. Wife does the same thing with her stuff. It's really a great feeling to get rid of that stuff. Even if some of it is good and useful, it's still junk if you don't use it. Building more buildings or renting a storage locker isn't the answer. I need look no further than my brother in law, or some of our friends. Brother in law built an extra garage (almost as big as a 3 car garage) to keep his 36 and 38 Fords in, and a workshop. However, that is also full now, the shed is full, his attached 2 car garage is full and so is the basement. In fact, he still has to store his 38 Ford in his next door neighbor's garage during the winter. Originally, the extra garage was supposed to hold both the 36 and 38. The 38 has never seen the inside of that garage and he can barely get the 36 in there. So..........the more space you have, the more junk you collect. The only real answer is to just dump the stuff.
