  1. Looking good Bob. Glad you got those doors off. Keep at it, you'll get that old coupe fixed up yet.

  3. I had decided last year when I had my car apart to cut out the area for the master cylinder. Of course I never did it. I forgot about it with all the rest to do. I have a floor mat on both sides and it would cover it. In sticking with the thread here's some pics of my P-15. I'm hoping to get it back together from the compressor mishap later this month. The parts are painted and ready to sand, buff, and reassemble. I've just got to find the time and ambition to do it.
  4. I found quite a few at autozone and oreilly's Fred. I did buy a few at napa before I knew the chain stores stocked the common ones.
  5. Good luck on your trip Pete. I'd say there is a problem with the driveshaft. My new driveline runs great and smooth. I would doubt that the powder coating process warped your wheels, but not sure. I've had wheels powder coated before without any troubles.
  6. I think if I were you Don I'd check that in tank filter like the others have said. Then I'd check your fuel line and hose. Has it been replaced recently? I had an old truck that would run fine for a while, then leave me stranded 10 miles from home. New fuel pump, cleaned out the tank, added in line fuel filter. Still a problem. The line was older and rusty. So I replaced the fuel line and didn't have any more problems. I used to drive it down the highway out of a gas can. You could always do that to isolate the fuel line and pump. Run a hose out of a gas can up to the fuel pump and run the car. If it runs fine it is most likely the line, tank, or hoses. If the problem persists then you can assume the fuel pump is probably bad.
  7. Ed, the socket comes out in mine. I would think you could find a pigtail and socket that would fit into the hole above the ignition switch. Maybe the help section at autozone or somewhere. If I remember correctly those aftermarket gauges have small bulb sockets in them. One of those plastic sockets might fit into the hole.

  9. I agree with Ben there that you probably have laws in your state similar to others. In Illinois I know that it is not required in a car older than 1965 to have seat belts installed, but if they are installed and not used as Norm said they can give you a ticket for not wearing them. I asked a friend of mine this question a few years ago. He is a president of a local car club and also a police chief so I figured he would tell me the truth. He told me just that, pre-'65 no belts have to be installed, but if you got 'em you better wear 'em.
  10. I know some people question how strong the used seat belts are. I know a wrecking company that has told me when the flip a rolled car back over they usually use the seat belts to pull it. Those things are pretty strong. Even though once they did that I probably wouldn't want to use those seat belts in a crash.
  11. Yeah if your going 3 point setup the wrecking yard is probably the way to go. I know Juliano's can get pretty pricey as well, even though I have a set of their chrome buckle belts in my old truck. They are very nice, but I only needed two sets. Made the cost a bit cheaper than a car.
  12. I've got my alt wired the same way as Marty does in my P-15 Greg. I just rev up the engine and it starts charging. I haven't tried to wire the 4th solenoid pole to it yet. I've got my voltage meter running from ignition to ground. I trust it a bit more than the ammeter.
  13. I put a set in mine two years ago. Now the wife feels better when the kids ride and I feel a little bit safer. There only lap belts, but they are better than nothing. I paid $15 each.   14. Looking good Jim, glad you made it to that first car show. Looks like you had fun.
  15. Easiest way is like Shel said to locate the number on the engine. It is on the left side of the block at the front below the head on most engines. Casting date is behind the oil filler tube as well. I've got a motor that I took out of a '36 Plymouth and it must have replaced at some point, as the serial # matches a '36 Plymouth motor, but the casting date is in 1945. Also there is a tag that states "Specify 218 when ordering parts." It is actually a 218, even though '36 Plymouths came with a 201.
  16. It's always nice to see people helping other people. That is what this hobby is all about in different ways. All the shows our car club puts on give money for gifts for needy kids at Christmas, who would otherwise get very little. We also buy things for folks in the local nursing homes at christmas who need odds and ends and have no family to buy them those things.
  17. Congrats Bob, your car is still looking good. Nice to know these Plymouths can get a first every once in a while. Although if that trophy is a first place trophy I hate to see how small the third place is.
  18. Thanks for the comments guys. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that screws up once in a while. I got the door and fender off this evening. Both are fixed and primed. Will be sanding them down tomorrow and doing the repaint. The let them sit up about a week, sand and buff, and then back on the car. All these local cruises going on around here makes me want to get the car out and drive it, not work on it. A week or two and I'll be back on the road again.

  20. Yep, I'm live about an hour north of Gary on Rt. 51. I'm not sure I've met him personally, but I know several of his fellow car friends down in that area. Clay Diggs and I saw his old yellow Chrysler coupe in Piggott, AR last weekend. Not sure what he's got now, I thought it was a '57 chevy station wagon. I hate to fly too. Next time your up this way let me know.

  22. Yeah, I bought it at rural king. It probably would have damaged the compressor if it would have hit the concrete and not the car. Although I would have felt better having to buy a new compressor rather than repairing my car.

  24. Well this is a small compressor that has two wheels on the back and then the small rubber stop on the front. I knew better then to leave the compressor where it was at. Sad thing is I've been meaning to move a larger compressor into the garage that my dad is giving me. It is like yours and on a pallet. Been trying to find a truck big enough to move it, or a trailer.
  25. I wanted to let you guys know I learned my lesson with those vertical compressors. They tip over really easy. I always kept it at the back of the garage along the wall next to where the Plymouth sits. Not anymore. I had torn down my pool deck a few weeks ago as it was damaged in a storm and we were getting a new pool and deck. So I saved some of the boards and put them behind the compressor. Anyways I had a rotten board in my back porch deck that I wanted to replace with one of these. So Sunday I went out and pulled a board out from behind my compressor, making sure it didn't come back and hit the Plymouth I pulled a little too hard on it and it knocked the compressor over, it hit the left rear door and left rear fender. It was covered up so I wasn't sure how bad the damage was. Pulled up the cover and it put a good dent in the rear door and a small dent in the edge of the fender. So this weekend I've got to pull the rear door and fender. Gonna do the bodywork and paint both pieces. Good thing is it is basecoat/clearcoat, so I can blend in the base and then just clear the whole panel. I'll post pics this weekend of it once I get it apart. I've covered it up and left it sit ever since. Made me pretty sick. You try so hard to keep from hitting the car, and then it happens. Oh well, it could always be worse.
