  1. I really like mine. It is a plexi-glass type that has been on the car for quite a while. Keeps some of the sun out of my eyes and when it rains it keeps some of the water off the windshield. Looks pretty cool too I think. That is a biased opinion though.
  2. I put a new fuel cap on my car two years ago. Drove it and it stalled at the every stop sign. Found out is was not vented as when I removed it I heard the pressure release. Changed the fuel cap and fixed the problem. Appears you have done the same thing. Hope this fixes your issues.
  3. Very nice Joe. When you start to see progress it makes you feel much better. You've done some very nice work to your car. Can't wait to see more pics in the future.
  4. Glad your rebuild was successful. Must be a trend, because I graduated in '97 too.
  5. Glad you got it figured out. I had the same problem on mine when I rebuilt it. I static timed it using the method in the tech tips off the main page. http://www40.addr.com/~merc583/mopar/framesets/techtipframeset.html Didn't take long to figure out what was wrong when I couldn't get that light to light up. Congrats and enjoy!
  6. Looks great Chet. Can't wait to see what you are doing next.
  7. On the subject of vibration dampers. Is there a noticeable difference in a car with an engine that has just the pulley versus the damper? I have just the pulley on mine and I have been trying to solve a vibration problem on my car. Went as far as to change all the engine mounts, etc. All new driveshaft and modern u-joints. The car had a damper when I rebuilt the motor, but I had a spare motor and could not find the damper when I was reassembling it so I just used the pulley. It probably will not make much of a difference, but figured I would ask.
  8. Looks good Chet. Nice job. Will look even better once you get the stainless moldings on. Good luck with your progress. Bet you can't wait to get it on the road.
  9. Here's a pic of it installed on the lower part of the dash. My cell phone pic is a little out of focus. This is an overdrive cable I had a few years ago and sold it to Young Ed before I decided to buy an od myself. It has the inscription and the L shaped bracket.
  10. Sounds like you have it all, just need the relay and a kickdown switch.
  11. I bought one from O'reilly's. It was just a dorman cable with a lock out handle. It wasn't strong enough for me so I ended up ordering the one from Fifth avenue. It is very nice and works very well.
  12. Hey Bob I did purchase radial tires. Ended up going with 15x6 rims with Firestones, 205 75 R15. It drives great. Had radial tires before, they were reaching the eleven year mark so I figured that was old enough. Plus they were showing some wear from the front end problems I resolved last year. It was time. It's funny you said that about the fender. I moved it yesterday, it's in my storage room, I need to work on that and get it on the car. The fender I have on the car is showing a few more cracks. Too many projects and not enough time. Planning on driving the car to Nashville in May though for Goodguys. Looking forward to driving the car a bit more this year.
  13. Hey Dave, Those are cragar wheels, bought them from Jegs. I had a good friend of mine mount and balance them. Bought the tires from a local dealer.
  14. It is almost 50 degrees here in Southern Illinois today. I spent the last week or so installing a few Christmas presents. I bought a set of chrome smoothies and bought new leaf springs from Espo. The car needed new tires anyway so I bought the wheels and new tires. Rear end was sagging a bit and the new springs brought it up at least an inch or so. It has a pretty neat stance now. Drives even better than it did too. Took it out to the state fairgrounds here in town and took a few pics. I am so ready for spring, and getting around the old cars and car folk.
  15. Thanks for the link Greg. Looks like there were a few modified P-15's in Portland too. Neat pics.
  16. Check out blueskies site above for info on the kickdown switch. I just use a push button switch under the dash, it works much better for me. When I need to kick it out of od, I just let off the accelerator and push the button. Kicks it right out without a problem. Like Blueskies I also only used one pole on the switch. With the electronic ignition it doesn't like the ignition cut out so I just left that be. I wired mine up just like his and I have not had any problems.
  17. Or do what I do and put it up in reverse. Do use the parking brake as an added measure though. Better to be safe than sorry.
  18. Here's what I use. http://www.fifthaveinternetgarage.com/parts/parts_counter_3.html#gearoil API rated GL-1 oil only. 90 wt. Napa sells it as well.
  19. It should not matter. Just gap them per the specifications on langdon's information sheet. The gap will have to be much wider than stock gap.
  20. I am planning a trip to Nashville next May for the Goodguys show. I know some of you guys would rather not participate in that, but I could always meet up with some locals while I'm there. I'm about 90% positive I'm bringing the Plymouth this time. I enjoy driving my old truck on the interstate a bit more, but I'm ready to get out of my comfort zone a bit with the Plymouth as most of the bugs have been worked out of it over the last few years. I think that it is the third weekend in May. Weekend before Memorial day weekend.
  21. Looking good Fred. Glad it worked out for you. I had my doors off when I repainted my car. Found out it was easier to put the rubber on with the doors on the car than off. Basically because in fitting up the doors I ended up messing up the weatherstrip on the doors. It was much easier to install and fit without the weatherstripping.
  22. 31 years old and been around old cars and trucks all my life. Grandpa finished the restoration on my '47 when I was a baby. There are pictures of me in the back seat asleep when it was on its way home from the upholstery shop. Always loved the old Plymouth and always dreamed of the day I would be able to drive it. Been driving it for 16 years now and have owned it for the last 5. Once I got a hold of it I decided it was time to freshen up the paint and the motor. Had to add a few things too like OD and 12v conversion. Wiring needed replaced so went ahead and did the conversion. Grandpa is still around he just got bored with the old car. Decided he would give it to me to do something with. I've enjoyed working on the car with him and learning lots of things off this forum. He's learned things about his old car from me he never knew that I learned on this forum. You would of thought he knew after owning the car for 30 years. Always enjoy the forum and glad the younger generation enjoys the old mopars too.
  23. Neat pics. I really like the town of Lebanon and the brick streets downtown. Been to the Lakers downtown cruise several times. Really enjoy that. Hope to meet up with you sometime, looks like you have a nice car.
  24. Yeah Ed I just keep the knob in all the time. I just put it in reverse and put on the emergency brake when I park it. If I parked on a hill I would probably pull the knob out. I've been running it that way for a year with no problems. It is much easier to drive to me. I never grind into gears and can always get into first at a slow roll. It does great. I guess the reason I wondered was the steps on the clutch wear over time and then the roller will not go into the cage. This is what was wrong with this od when I got it. Had to have NW transmission parts reman one for me. Thanks for the input guys I appreciate it.
  25. I was wondering as I am planning on driving my car in a parade next Saturday and hadn't really thought of this much as I don't usually drive in parades. I've got the R-10 OD in my car and would it be best to lock out the OD while in the parade to avoid wear to the free-wheeling clutch in the OD?, or does it really matter?
