  1. Compare your manual to the one for the Fluid Drive: http://www.imperialclub.com/Repair/Lit/Master/012A/cover.htm Yes you can remove the Governor Cover to check/clean points, PROPERLY. The unit just unscrews to test off the car. That old wiring is always questionable, so I just made a new harness and replaced it. Good luck figuring it out.
  2. Almost $600 for my 4 door car. NOT to kick my feet on. Not a restoration, that's when I started looking at rubber floor mat material, 1/8 1/4" thick, multiple patterns/designs. Selected one that was easy to clean. Cut to fit, adhesive still holding. (rubbercal.com) All people notice is a nice sill plate. Perfect for me. I'm also the one who added an aluminum trim piece with CHRYSLER engraved on it.
  3. If you find them, sit down when you see the price.
  4. Task complete. Hammer method?
  5. Local pick up only.
  6. Not hijacked, likes & dislikes welcome. A day of glitz, glamour and shine. Last visit they had 2 indoor test tracks. If I go it will be by train, which stops in the basement. Cheaper than gas and parking. Surprised not to see neat designs of concept cars this year. Have an ancient 8mm film when Dodge Lil' Red Wagon was a highlight.
  7. Good you're keeping those parts behind secure doors.
  8. A great project. Wife will love the big body. Drive it like one, it's not modern.
  9. For those within range. At McCormick Place Feb 11-20, 2017. Posted on the calendar page. http://www.chicagoautoshow.com/vehicles-on-display/
  10. until
    At McCormick Place.
  11. Got a camera to add some pictures? Might help ID some of the things you question. Engine # on the block.
  12. Clever recycling helps a lot. Just don't use a rare expensive cap. Glad to see others that don't have pristine engine compartments.
  13. With the dash open and access to the gauge, checked and had power to the gauge. Pulled sender and hooked it up with jumpers. Don't forget a good ground. Moved float and gauge worked. Soldered short wire to sender housing for a better ground in trunk. Put sender back in. Ran new test wire from gauge to sender. Gauge worked. Looks like single wire from sender to gauge was defective. Installed new wire under carpet, all is fine. Good luck finding the culprit for a fix.
  14. Looking at the tool, that's why I mentioned not for this. The needle shaft does not come up thru the center of the needle.
  15. Thanks for the tips, do's and dont's. That tool shown has logic, but not for this. So far 'tricks" have no success. It's old, and stuck. Heat seems like a bad thing. Maybe the trusty hammer? Not done yet. Of course it's a Chrysler.
  16. Think I've got enough pieces now to swap parts and get a speedometer that works. Odometer is OK. There sure are small, delicate, intricate parts in that device. In order to do this, the challenge is to remove the speedometer needle. Without damage. I think it just lightly presses onto a tiny shaft. It has also been on there a while. Anybody done this on an old car? Somehow get under there and pry it up, don't scratch the surface of the gauge. Non specific instructions say "be careful" and patient. One suggestion was use a fork. The needle is very thin aluminum. Not something you do often, if at all. The picture shows what looks like a brass bushing on the needle going onto the shaft. Helpful comments, suggestions, advice welcome. Will report on progress, or a pile of parts. Thanks.
  17. If you stick with 6V, there are dual pin 6V bulbs with symmetrical pins that fit original sockets (to make contact if you change the pigtail to double). Order extra. 50¢ ea.
  18. I hope not! Is that all there is left to try? The trans drive gear just sits in a hole where the cable attaches. Or do the drive thing with another person watching the cable.
  19. Is the final component to pull out the trans drive gear?
  20. Quite a nostalgic hangout.
  21. I got the inside pigtail assembly (both single & dual) from O'Reileys.
  22. I picked up a 1/4 drive bit for drill testing. Taking the unit out is a pain. But you have the old broken cable to use.
  23. Pick pick, that couple was having fun. There are also extra mirrors on the car.
  24. Yes to rattlecans. Try NAPA for a color match. $18/can.
  25. wrong place..
