  1. Greg, the 5752 also fits the rear? Haven't been under there to look yet. My fronts are Mopar-Matic. Original?
  2. OK, something was covering the set screws on the back of mine. It's not angled as much as yours.
  3. Not sure I understand the mount. You said 'clip on' (with gasket). Are there set screws on the back side to tighten it?
  4. Cool. "Blue" is on my watch list. Assuming that would be different from the Imperial Club manual, which has been printed. (A lot of pages!) Figured out the 5 wire at the trans but 3 wire at the other end mystery. 3 of them are hooked into one. All black. Can finally trace each to destination, and measure for new harness. Want to disconnect all and do a short drive. Says that only affects the downshift?
  5. More good pix, thanks. Many of my questions are trying to confirm what I see/read before proceeding. The old brain needs that extra help. (Instructions to test - clean - adjust things don't tell me where to find the component.) (And I would have filled to the top plug!). Something simple in there. How can that be?? So what is inside that canister, oil? Moves points by pressure? I'll soon find out. Will get out jumpers and attempt testing before taking apart. No color match, so may have to chase each wire first to see where it goes via diagram. Frightening question, if any of the components are bad, where does one find working replacements? Learning slowly about the old jalopy.
  6. Thanks for the pix identifying the 3 parts on the tranny. Found the 10W. Out there now, unit is drained. DO you FILL IT from the TOP PLUG, and stop when it starts coming out the center plug??? Looking at the wires too, and a re-wire may be on the list. The solenoid & governor can come off? (unscrew?) Only the governor can be opened for cleaning. edit: Got the meter out, and studying the procedures for electrical testing. Just can't tell wire colors. edit 2: Black fluid. Tranny will appreciate fresh. Fill complete. Not sure, so used a hose into the center plug. 3 pints. Maybe I should run it a few weeks and change again? So just what is that top plug for? No fluid to be seen. Can't say it ran any different for a ride around the block. Spent too much time chasing the wires, so no testing. 5 wires at the trans, only 3 wires coming out under the hood? 2 wires to 2 different things on the carb. No colors match. Another day to figure out what's what. I'll be back for sure.
  7. I did an inventory of needed lamps, ordered from Bulbtown.com. Even with shipping, the whole bag was cheaper than 4 bulbs at the store. Clean your sockets and use bulb grease.
  8. Nice project. That 90 felt pretty good down at the beach.
  9. The Imperial Club manual is my reference. Seems like it would hold more than 3 pints. HA. Find 10W! Will check a tractor place nearby, heard of "TDH" fluid? Heard not ATF. Now to identify the pieces on the tranny and what they do.
  10. Time to check some things on the 49 Chrysler Prestomatic M6. Don't think it's working properly. Have never ridden in or driven one that works normally to get the 'feel'. Help where you can please. Starting with a simple fluid change, recommended 10W. Found the access plate on the hump. Bottom plug to drain, top plug to fill. Confusing capacity already. Manual says semi-automatic, 3 pints. That's it?? Fluid Torque Drive is 10 1/2 qts. Is that the converter? Most say don't bother with that. The manual, and copies of several posts here with tips, will attempt to diagnose the electrical components. The wiring diagram has 6 things, but not where they are located. An 'anti-stall' switch & 'kickdown switch' ..... carburetor? A circuit breaker/resistor 'box, which is on the fender well going to the ignition. Now there's a 'solenoid switch', a 'governor', and an 'interrupter switch'. Are these on the tranny? The attached picture shows 3 things wired in there. Which is which? I guess you can disconnect certain things to evaluate if they are working. And/or check the component itself, some have points that may need cleaning? If you know of a post with testing advice, please provide that. Any pictures of this stuff too. I'm really in the dark here, but ready to give it a try. Thanks if you can keep it simple.
  11. Ah, your new buggy had no mirrors. My driver side is round, but door mount. Too small. Looking at a larger rectangle. Pass is clamp on peep, useless. Maybe the angle of your style would help(?) And a better location, not behind the vent window bar! Does the arm screw into the bracket to tighten? I see no screws.
  12. Post some of those pictures here to help with your questions.
  13. Does the angle help visibility? I hate mine.
  14. Mr. FixIt is at it already. What will your new topic be called. Got pix of the interior?
  15. I hate wiring issues. True, the coil made it run. Can you check power TO that connection, from the switch? Or anywhere in between. How much disassembly was needed to get to the speedo cable? Digging around in there could have created a wire problem/short? Hope there is a logical solution.
  16. Good tour with your non-horseless carriage. Can your ambition rotate that? My neck doesn't bend like an owl.
  17. Car has been starting fine, no battery drain, so electrical issue seems resolved. (Didn't think, should have taken new ignition cylinder to have it re-keyed to match original key.) As promised have not fiddled with speedo again, yet. It did bounce up to 5mph at about 25mph. Will eventually look at tranny gear, but doubtful that is the problem. What is a good source for gear replacement? If anyone is interested, I put the leftover gauge needle paint in the classifieds. Installed under hood light. Tucking wires up out of sight. Dash pieces going back on. Clock doesn't work, but it now lights up! Made decision not to reinstall original non-working MONSTER radio. Nor to chop up radio and just put in knob/dials. For this model, that left two big holes in the dash. Original covers not necessary. Fabricate! How do you like my radio delete plates?
  18. Quite a project to pull the unit and examine those intricate pieces. My '49 assy works with a bench test, but when installed, doesn't register speed. Good luck.
  19. A new keyboard might help you find correct parts.
  20. Beautiful interior.
  21. Looks like you're a good shopper. Hope it fills your need.
  22. End of the cable is square. Speedo unit is in it's own housing, screwed to the cluster. Works in the basement, not in the car. Another '49 trick! This is weird. edit: giving up for a while on the speedo. No sense removing it again, knowing it will work out of the car. No reply if the inner cable can be pulled out from the top? I presume the tranny end is also square and slips int o the drive gear?
  23. The speedo components come out of the cluster as a separate unit. Twice it all has worked properly in the house using a drill. Once back in, everything functions but the speed? Cable inserted all the way and obviously spinning to turn odometer. (If no action up top, would check the tranny gear) Something odd is confusing the weak brain. Can pull cable and re-examine shaft end to make sure it is square, not rounded and perhaps slipping inside(?) Can the inner shaft just be pulled out from the top, and a new cable slid back in? Have to be sure it goes in the tranny gear.
  24. GRRRR, what the _____? Remember while instrument cluster was out I fiddled with speedometer, odometer, trip odometer, and trip odometer re-set cable. Bench testing showed all components to be working prior to putting back in the cluster. Now that it's all assembled, the odometer rolls over, but the speedometer doesn't register speed? How can that be, they work off the same gear and cable? Another kooky challenge .Rechecked while cluster was out a 2nd time, all worked in the house. Still no speedometer. Any words of wisdom welcome.
