  1. I think that was the idea of packing it in until it comes back out. Supposedly, if its full, it can't get away from the gears. It's a theory. I dunno, but I'm bettin on it.
  2. Around 1960 the Shell zone rep taught us to put chassis grease in the gearbox instead of oil saying it was ok to do it. The smaller of the two bolt heads on top of the box is a lock for the shaft adjuster and can be taken out. We were to hold the grease gun tip to the hole and fill it until it came back out. I guess I have been doing that ever since. I don't recall any bad results, plus, my gearbox quit leaking. I don't recommend others do it if it makes them uncomfortable.
  3. Awfully Tiny Mind?
  4. Here's how he got there.
  5. Make sure the check ball under it is there and seats well. Clean the edge of the hole so nothing is keeping it from sealing.
  6. "Well now I know why you save all that stuff". My wife said the same thing today at lunch. I had just sold for scrap 297 lbs of old nuts, bolts and washers from amy 40 year collection. 103 lbs of lead and lesser amounts of brass and aluminum, all for $80.
  7. " Once excited it does its thing until the engine is turned off." Yeah, I know the feeling.
  8. At least its not in a junk yard. yet. Kinda ugly.
  9. Don says,"I also carry a head gasket in my car wrapped in cardboard and stored on the package shelf below the rear window." Pretty clever, Don, I'm gonna give that a think. Hmm, under the mat so it doesn't show.
  10. You got me looking at some of my stash and found four of those, Dodge, DeSoto, Chrysler, and Plymouth, 1939-1948. I must have gotten them at a swap meet somewhere. I too, would be happy to scan and mail to anyone who wants info. Hahahah, all I gotta do is figger out how. I'll work on it. They are like a major award; Frah-jee-lay. Is it too soon for that?
  11. What a beauty!
  12. Be careful, now,,,,,,,,,,,,
  13. And you wonder why the truck forum doesn't want to merge with us.
  14. If I remember right, hahahahaah, that looks like the one that JC Whitney/Warshawski used to sell. In the 60's.
  15. Nice ride. You can do that again anytime you want.
  16. Thanks for a nice ride, Mark. I think that dash is at least as purty as the trees.
  17. Get off the computer and GET TO WORK!
  18. A lot of times I've been in coherant. like now.
  19. Sounds like a good name for some of those kids I saw at the mall Saturday night.
  20. Desperate times call for deserate measures. Its not a micrometer fit, make one out of flat sheet metal stock. Once you bolt it in, it ain't goin' anywhere.
  21. I suggest that you don't put it together without a spring and cover on both ends.
  22. If you had a vibration problem with that shaft, it was probably because you don't have the centering spring in it to keep it steady. Somewhere I read that on old time hint to center the pin was to use a penny as a guide. The pin should stick out exactly the diameter of a penny held next to it on either side of the shaft. I've never tried it, but if I ever take the shaft out, I will see if its reasonable.
  23. Great movie, Greg! I especially liked the sound of the engine when the rice burner came into view. Was it me or did I here it gain rpms? Anyway, I really enjoyed the ride.
  24. Now that I look again at that spot light mounting, my first thought was, "pretty neat". It would be good in fog. But, on second thought, look at where the handle is; right in his face! On another not, as the owner of two Buicks, I take offense at those things they are calling "portholes". They look like they were on a clearance sale at Warshawski's.
