  1. Boy, now thats a good looking car! Welcome to the forum.
  2. I they kick you off for that, then they may as well kick me off too because I feel exactly the same way. Everything I have I owe to those who fought for before I came along.
  3. Go to the aquarium and see the Marlins, Stingrays, and Barracudas. I know, back in the corner.
  4. Again, I thank you all for your concern. Somehow it seems to help. But, once again I have proved that if you want to do something stupid, all the safety devices in the world will not help. $1.11 for 20 Hydrocodone at Walgreens. From the ER to two Drs. and one hand specialist, I now feel like a fruit on the insurance money tree. They have learned that thru my pension I have pretty good coverage and they are determined to reap the benefits. On the other "hand", after reading post from others, there are people here with real problems. I really have no reason to complain. I have my fingers and my friends and relatives are well. I need to shut up and be happy, so, I will. Again, thanks for your thoughts, I really do appreciate them.
  5. I would think you could use the float off any newer gauge/pump unit. I used one from a Ford in-the-tank pump unit of indeterminable age. Looks like its good forever. No need for shellac.
  6. I am fairly certain that TSC and other Farm and Fleet type stores carry O gauge battery cables on the shelf. They aren't cheap, but not real expensive either. No waiting is the big deal. I am using the woven ground strap type for the positive side. You can buy it by the foot with molded on ends. My idea of cheap will surely differ from your idea of cheap.
  7. this and the previous post were typed while holding one hand in the air, and i'm too lazy use the shift key.
  8. please let an old guy ramble. your motor runs on after shut off when its hot because there is enough hot carbon in the cylinders to fire any fuel it can suck in. if the throttle plate shuts tight enough and there are no vaccuum leaks, such as open vaccuum ports, missing or broken vaccuum lines loose carb mount, manifold leaks egr system, or any other way for air to get in the cylinder, it will not be able to run. thats why it wont do it when its cold, because the carbon is not hot enought to fire. if you dont find any vaccuum leaks, make certain that nothing is keeping the throttle open, ie; choke linkage, fast idle cam, or as i once found, a dried up dead mouse. try not to resort to running colder as you will only cause more carbon build-up and your gas mileage will be worse than it is now. thank you for your time, and remember my signature.
  9. pain meds can be fun, if only to me.
  10. it only ah-oo's. no g-aa.
  11. check the egr valve to see if its closing all the way. just grabbing at straws here.
  12. I thank you all for your kind respnses. I have a lot time to think of what this little group means to me. However, the stupid runs very deep here at home. You know how sometimes your brain says "STOP IT, YER GONNA HURT YERSELF" ? I chose not to listen. It really wasn't an accident when I did something intentionally that I knew had a very good chance of going bad. Boys, use your heads, we're all too old to be making mistakes like this.
  13. I fear I have you all beat here. "What was the last 'big dummy' any of you did?" Today I tried to push small pieces of wood across my table saw without a push stick. I am typing with one hand bound up to look like a mickey mouse glove. After 5 hours in the ER, I see the orthopedist tommoro to see how short one of my fingers will be. The others only get stitches. Anybody do anything dumber than that today?
  14. Did you put the sat in so that the sensing pellet is towards the block? If so, it's in right. Put it in backwards, (pellet up), and it will overheat.
  15. If my headlights did that I would first suspect the dimmer switch. Its down in all the dirt, water, and road junk.
  16. Thanks, thats a good idea. All it takes is some phone calling, which by my own stupidity, is all I can do for a while. There'll be no wrenching at my place.
  17. Thanks for the response, I am sort of looking for new springs now. I see JC Whitney says they are unavailable, though. If possible, I would, like to put the covers back on when I get them changed, just for looks. Oh well, first things first.
  18. He's asking $17,500. Phone number on request. He's in Kokomo.
  19. Met with a fellow at the show who has this '42 DeSoto for sale. He said it came from the factory with valve seats cast in the block and no inserts. Hmmm. It's a nice looking interior too.
  20. Has anyone ever removed and saved their spring covers? I think I have a problem and I would like to keep the covers for reuse.
  21. I see, must be a shortened version of "account". Up here in Lake county we don't speak the same language as other Hoosiers. Guess I should have figured that out though. Hey, I'm retired, I don't have to think if I don't want to.
  22. Meaning?
  23. Fred, I feel the same way sometimes. Then when I'm at a show, I see cars in about the same shape as mine, and some even worse. I realized that I enjoyed looking at those cars anyway, because I understand what the owners are going thru. Others would like to see your car, even though they know everythings not perfect, but they will still have those "My Dad had on like that" moments anyway. I'm sure you don't mind looking at less then perfection, others don't either. Go, have fun, enjoy, thats why you and I and all the rest of us do this.
  24. and if the guy doing the "clocking" is good at it, he would be known as counter-clock-wise. Enough already.
  25. I saw this at the Blueberry festival in Plymouth, Indiana today.
