Theres a nice 1940 Dodge 4dr sedan on US ebay at present & was just taking a look and noticed that it has interior door lock buttons on at least the rear doors......can't see a pic of the front doors, anyway, I'd never noticed this on any pics I'd seen of US 40 Dodges before and was wondering if this was the 1st year for this feature and did US Plymouths have this?. Don't have a pic showing my Oz 1940 Dodges' rear door interior but as my Oz 1940 Dodge is Plymouth based and uses Oz sourced door locks without the interior lock button, you just move the inside handle up to lock the door, I've not seen the interior locks on 40 models before.....so when did they start in the USA?.......thanks andyd

Bob, I have also been following this on the HAMB, you mention the tyre cost........I have Coker Radials on my 41 Plymouth, 195/75 x15 and 235/75x15 on the front & rear, they cost me $1700.00 Australian plus another $80.00 to have them fitted & balanced onto the 15 x6 & 15 x 7 Wheel Vintique Chrome Smoothies....they cost $700.00 for the 4 rims so I have $2480.00 in the wheels and tyres..........lol...........and yep I do like them and look after them........lol.........attached pic...........regards, andyd -

Has anyone on the forum had any dealings with the guy/s that sell the 30-40's Mopar reproduction running boards that appear on US Ebay occaisonally? I need a pair for my 1940 Oz Dodge which is based on the US 1940 Plymouth, consequently those are what I am looking at getting. The Oz dollar at present makes these the most attractive they have ever been so I am thinking about getting a pair & have them shipped to a depot in Long Beach Ca who will ship them via a container to Oz.........anyway has anyone any experience with these and the quality..........thanks, Andy Douglas

Andrew, congrats from downunder, looks like a neat car, a good cleanup will do wonders, btw apart from the extras & accessories mentined I see it has headlight shades.........I've seen the repos that are available now and are on just about every "custom" thats in magazines but have never seen a pair on an original car.....any chance you could take some closeup pics of the headlights?........thanks, regards, andyd in Oz -
BTW Chrysler Royals used as mentioned the 53/54 Plymouth body shell with 55/56 Plymouth front & rear guards, the complete chassis, suspension was 54 Plymouth, there were 3 series, AP1 in 1957/58, AP2 in 1959/60 and AP3 in 1961/62, all were the same basic body/chassis, but the AP1 & AP2's used single headlights, the AP3 used stacked quad lights, all had fins, getting progressively larger, there was also Utes and a very small number of wagons, say 15-20 maybe......apart from the Utes All Royals were 4dr sedans, no 2drs, h/tops or converts were made...engines were the 25" ex Canadian via UK "Kew" six with originally a 3 speed with or without O/Drive, also the Powerflite/Torqueflites were used, V8's were also available as an option, there is some indication that a 303ci version of the Poly may have been used but the AP3 definately used a 313 version, all V8's were 2 barrel, and Auto's, NO 4barrels or manuals were available.......I have a 1962 313 AP3 V8 in my 1940 Dodge, having wrecked a nice clean Royal for just that purpose in 1973.........andyd

Generally speaking the steering conversion date is 30 yrs old, ie, if its a 1979 LHD car then it can now get normal full rego and be able to be used as a regular car, however if its a 1981 model then to be used as a regular car then it has to be converted to RHD, although if you are a member of a specialist/collector car club then you maybe able to have it on a Ltd rego scheme that allows use to go on club runs, evenets etc and still be left hook.........there are 6 Oz states and 2 territories, all have their own specific regulations however as a rough guide this info applies to all, btw these regulations apply to a stock standard car, if it was LHD with say a wheel charge, ie , mags, it might be o/k in one state, say New South Wales, but as an example it may not be o/k for the wheel change in another, ie say South Australia.........its a fun time..........andyd

Model Cars???...........did someone say MODEL CARS!!.....(thanks Dennis)......I might have a passing interest in that topic..... www.scaleautomobilia.com.au ........lol.......andyd

Ed, thanks for the info, tho I thought the actual physical size of the thermostats would have been the same.....andyd
-
My understanding is that all thermostats to suit the mopar sidevalve 6 have the same physical size, just different temperature ratings, so any from any 23/25" engine should fit............andyd

Fred, am not sure what the differences are between the 2 styles of lower arm, is it possible to remove the bracket from the arms that had the sway bar and attach them to the new Chrysler?.......as for driving without a sway bar, I remember driving my 40 Dodge without the sway bay, I'd taken the original one off and was having a 1" thick one made up with ends that would allow heim joints to be bolted on and took it for a drive around the block..........what a difference.....lol.....came home and left it in the garage till the new bar was installed........The 41 Plymouth came with no front sway bar when I bought it.......it was an older "restoration" and I drove it round the block with the 6.00x16 crossplies and no sway bar.....I'd forgotten what a **** of a drive it was, lol........all over the road.......after installing a 1940 Plymouth sway bar(same thing as a 41), even with the crossplies it made it much more civilised...........sway bars or more correctly ANTI sway bars do just that, stop the sway and should be manditory on ALL cars, especially Mopars........andyd

Thanks guys for the great trip, also for the Hersey info, this really does deserve magazine coverage....... would love to get over there one day but until then you guys make it almost as good.......many thanks and regards, Andy Douglas

Tom, no problem, that number for the speedie sleeve, is that a NAPA number or speedie sleeve number as NAPA is only a US base & a speedie sleeve number would work worldwide.......regards, andyd

Tommy........I have an exhaust manifold that you can have, unfortunately I am in Oz.......Australia....its the same, rear dump exhaust which is different to the stock one on my 41 RHD Plymouth..........if you need it let me know but shipping will be quite a bit..........andyd

Also US Ford and Mopar use 1/2 UNF studs/nuts................andyd

Fred, Mopar wheels from 1934 at least to the late 60's have the same bolt pattern as 1949 onwards US Ford, they are 4.5" x 5, which is what you have been offered.......Toyota vans and pickups and Studebakers also have the same bolt pattern........I don't have a Studebaker but the 1995 Toyota HiAce van I use for my shop has the same bolt pattern as Ford, so its wheels will also fit my 1941 Plymouth.......or I could put the plymouth wheels on the HiAce.......lol............nope, I don't think so........check a local wheel shop as I think that BMW may also be a match........note that whilst a bolt pattern maybe the same the centre hub hole may need to be enlarged and the wheel locating spike on our stock mopar brake drums will need to be removed or a hole drilled or found on the new rims...........andyd

Clips go into the moldings, good idea is to place the moldings without the clips on them against the body where they should fit & mark the molding with a marker pen where the clips sit, then fit the clips inside the moldings where they should go and then fit the moldings onto the body......have also heard of people placing a light tack tape either side of where the molding go to protect against scratches the remove the tape........most moldings usually have a stain/mark inside them where the original clip sat which is a good guide as to where to place the new clips.........andyd

Rock, I'm surprised that there might be an off the shelf adaptor available for this, but who knows........tim, am pleased the mock up seems to work o/k, I'd be looking at getting a properly machined up one made as its the sort of thing that you don't want to let go on a trip miles from nowhere.....lol........andyd

I'm a few miles away here on the east coast of Australia so the machine shop prices will be a little off........lol.......but I wouldn't think it would be that expensive, if you sit the driveshaft flange against the diff flange and see whether the hole centres for each are close to each other or , say 1/2" approx away, ie, on a different circumference, if they are then it shouldn't be that difficult or expensive to have a steel or even alloy adaptor made up, but without actually playing with the pieces I'm only guessing whether its possible.............andyd
