  1. I love looking at your '48 as inspiration for my '47. Time is the big obstacle for me at the moment.
  2. From what I've read on here re-sleeving is the way to go.
  3. I like the vinegar and EvapoRust idea. I am a little confused with the order of the bottles vs. the order of the procedure. I'm assuming the far right bottle is before, the EvapoRust is red and the vinegar is last. So you first fill the radiator with vinegar, fire up the engine and run it through the system, drain and then repeat with EvapoRust? Probably not, so fill me in.
  4. Thanks. Very ingenious.
  5. Bluefox, how did you de-rust the inside of your engine with the acid, and what kind of acid. I am assuming that the engine was still in the car?
  6. Sorry, I just saw your explanation about the water spots. I was too busy looking at the photos.
  7. That looks really nice. I'm going to do mine single-stage as well. Base/clear is very impressive, but I think that these cars when new were more like yours than very, very high gloss. I'd be very happy with your results. So how did the spots turn out from water in your line?
  8. That looks great! Now, that's single stage, right? Is that one coat or two or three wet coats? Looks like it has a nice gloss. I hope you will give some insights into re-aligning the hood and clip, etc. I'm debating whether to remove the hood for painting. But I guess it's just something to learn. Good job.
  9. Well, if you have an explosion proof fan that's great. I thought you might be using a house fan.
  10. I was born and raised in California. Love Santa Barbara area. Our prayers are with you.
  11. Just be careful of any electrical sparks. The mist will be very concentrated in there. Have fun! Can't wait to see it done. Wish it was my '47. I'm painting mine black as well, so this will be good.
  12. I've owned a Strat, Rickenbacher 6-string, an Ibanez that I can't recall the model, a Martin D-18 and a crappy Vox Shadow when I was about fourteen. What a piece of junk. But at fourteen, what did I know. I just wanted to be a Beatle.
  13. George Harrison, a big fan of the country guitarists, used his black Gretsch on the Beatles first U.S. Ed Sullivan appearance.
  14. I bought a similar one from a guy on ebay. Worked perfectly.
  15. I can just imagine Cary Grant and Eva Marie Saint climbing down Don's nose!
  16. They look very nice. I wish he'd make them for S-11's.
  17. Thanks. That's pretty much what I thought and was hoping to hear!
  18. Most all of us who have a car in a barn or somewhere outside have run across mouse nests. I am told that deer mice especially carry a virus that is quite harmful if the dust in the nest is ingested or some contact with their urine or crap. I ran across a nest packed into my snow blower engine and picked it out with a wire. I didn't put on a mask at first but then thought that I better. I had no gloves and did touch some of the metal after it was all cleaned out. Anybody get sick from these critters?
  19. That has basically the same body as my '47 S-11. I like that grille. But don't do what I did. In my excitement I removed a lot of stuff without taking a lot of photos and labeling a lot of parts. I've got most of it figured out but it's been a hassle. It might also be a good thing to buy a cheap little recorder and explain when you removed things and where they're located and any little trick getting them off. I haven't done it myself, but it might be a good thing for both of us!
  20. I'll say it before somebody else does. Photos please.
  21. Since I am in my own engine compartment now, I'd love to see some in progress shots of the engine comp.
  22. I've been doing the same thing to mine, replacing one thing at a time. I flushed out the cooling system. New hoses. Restored the thermo housing. New plugs. New coil. New plug wires. New battery cables. Changed the oil. Have been putting oil and Marvel Mystery Oil down cylinders for about a year or two. (Time goes by fast) I still have to put the oil filter back on and get a new fan belt. It ran well when I bought the car about seven years ago.
  23. So the green trunk is factory? I have a '47. Would that have the green truck as well? It sure looks great, the whole car. I can't wait to get to that stage. I'm looking forward to seeing the black!
  24. Hey pflaming, how do those wheel dollies work? What brand are they?
  25. Gee, I wish I was doing that to mine!!
