  1. Could I trouble you to show the screw/bolt combination fasteners used to hold down your floorboards? I have a '47 Desoto and need the info. Thanks.
  2. And I wouldn't apply it to bare metal. Testors really isn't meant, to my knowledge, for exterior. There are One Shot sign painters enamels that might work better.
  3. I'm just wondering about all the folks who won't be able to afford new electric cars or whatever the fuel might be, the lower income folks who are working for minimum wage and driving beaters to get to work. I've been there. I lived and worked in L.A. and know the demographics. I'm just wondering how this will all work, that's all.
  4. I just read an article how California wants to ban the internal combustion engine within ten years. How will that affect classic cars in California?
  5. I'm going to have to do the same graining and plan to use Grain-It like Rich. I have to do my window molding and dash. I have a spare window molding that will be my test piece as I go along. In fact, I have the base color I ordered from Grain-It that been sitting for awhile and I plan to shoot it in the next few weeks.
  6. Speaking of grease fittings . . . My pump probably hasn't seen grease in at least seven years. I haven't greased anything on the car yet. Do you just grease a fitting till the grease runs out of the fitting?
  7. That's great luck.
  8. You may be interested in this. http://www.ebay.com/itm/292264650172?ssPageName=STRK:MESELX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1555.l2649
  9. That's a possibility. My my mechanic and I fire it up he's gonna check compression, etc. We'll see what kind of engine I have.
  10. Well you know, the first thing I thought was that it looked like seat stuffing and I thought, "Oh no, a mouse got into the engine." But that's silly, so I thought water in the cylinder. But I like the spider idea much better.
  11. Yeah, buying new ones seems like a good investment.
  12. The electrodes are still square. My service manual says .025 but seems like a lot of you guys like .030.
  13. All of the plugs have the electrodes even with the bottom of the threads, which is quite a bit lower than the new R45's I have. Are these old ones that worn?
  14. Seven years ago. Been sitting under cover since.
  15. This is a plug out of one of the cylinders of my flat head six. I thought it was a little suspicious and thought I'd put it on here for evaluation. It looks like there is a type of fuzz on it like we have on our apple trees. But there are no apple tree in cylinder one that I know of. It came out of the head harder than the others and with a light squeek, undoubtedly from the rust on the threads. Wait. Don't tell me. I don't wanna know!
  16. That looks great! How did you do the grain?
  17. Welcome to the forum. Lots of info here. Very nice guys (and gals?) There is a nice search feature on here that I've come to use more and more. If you scroll over the word "Activity" at the top of the page, a listing of choices comes up and the last one should be "search." Hit search and you'll be taken, as one would think, to the search page. If you type in "First start-up" or something like that, a number of former posts will come up. There will be highlighted words associated with the words in your search. It takes some time to run across the posting that fits the bill for your question, but it's there somewhere. I happen to know cause I asked the very same question and so did some other guys. But don't feel intimidated to ask new questions.
  18. I finally did get both the heater valve on the engine block and the eater pump by-pass tube free. I used a heat gun. Just happy it worked!
  19. I' getting ready to start my flathead after seven years of sitting. The oil filter is off but I plan to put it back. Do I need to prime the oil pump? Do I need to fill the oil filter?
  20. Thanks Rich. Forget the PM I sent you. I got mixed up. I assume the threads on the by-pass elbow are the same as the head heater petcock. I gave the auto parts the thread size and told them it was a tapered pipe thread like my parts book said.
  21. I finally removed the heater hose fitting on the rear of the engine block removed. Know how? With a heat gun. Maybe I was lucky, but I followed your directions to the letter with the exception of a torch. Didn't have one. Anyway, it's off. However . . . The new valve that I bought is smaller, and it doesn't seem to thread in right. I barely screwed it in because I may want to take it back. And, the inside diameter is less on the new valve, which could have an effect on water flow. Guess maybe I got the wrong valve.
  22. I've always thought that they got the words "asteroid" and "Hemorrhoid" reversed.
  23. What about stainless?
  24. Where can I get American made bolts and nuts? I've heard of guys cadmium plating the old fasteners.
  25. Okay, even new bolts with that gold color, the gold is coming off after a few weeks in the thermo housing. I've been looking at thread chaser prices. Can you buy them as you need them or a set? Where best prices?
