  1. I guess I wouldn't know if it was in the oil gallery. And with it being a screw that is not tightened down to the screw head, I suppose there must be some reason that it isn't. On the other hand, who would ever want to access it behind the generator bracket?
  2. On the front left lower side of my flat head, coming out of the block behind the left generator bracket bolt, there is a small type of set screw with a squared head that is the same diameter as the screw body. A few threads are showing. It looks to be some sort of fluid drain plug. Anybody know what it's used for? set screw type of thing
  3. This thread would make an excellent booklet.
  4. I'm curious as to what body and paint sites you're on.
  5. Marry royalty!
  6. I heard William Powell in The Thin Man call them "Coo-Pay's."
  7. My doctor says it shouldn't break. The hernia, not the generator.
  8. The generator goes from the radiator to the firewall. Anybody have one like this?
  9. Thanks. I do have all that's needed including the safety tools.
  10. I bought some welding cable to make new battery cables. I'd like to make a clean cut. Anybody have a technique?
  11. I pulled and painted the generator seven years ago when I bought my '47 Desoto. I'm putting it back on and it's a heavy sucker. I can't recall if it has to be done from under the car or if it can be done over the fender. I've already had a hernia operation earlier this year.
  12. The rust is basically slightly pitted surface rust. I would use a wire wheel on a drill. I wanted to keep the dust down as much as possible and chemically remove as much rust beforehand as possible.
  13. I want to remove most of the rust on my interior floor pans before wire brushing, but don't want to use a water rinse product cause I don't know where the rinse water would go. And a lot of rust removers are "dip" type. Any ideas?
  14. I'd very much like to see a group that has 1946-48 DeSotos.
  15. I think people are tired of losing what independence we have. Driving at least gives the illusion of being free to make your own choices and "steer" your life yourself. How much more can we stand of letting yet another machine do our thinking for us?
  16. That's exciting! Looks great. And you painted the engine in the car? That's really encouraging. Wonderful job.
  17. As one with a '47 DeSoto four door sedan, I'd love to see some photos. I am in need of some photos of how things go back together. Maybe we could PM.
  18. Found some grade 8 bolts at Menards and cut them down and tapered ends. Perfect fit.
  19. These are a grade 5. I'll go to Fastenal. They were very good last year matching my old bolts to new ones. Thatnks for the education.
  20. I got them at the auto parts store. If YHC means anything. I can go to Fastenal and get a harder grade bolt.
  21. Below is a photo of the original thermo housing bolts on my '47 Desoto and a new one. The parts book says it's 2" and the new bolt is a 2", but the new one is a bit longer. I can cut it down to match or is there a replacement that I don't know of?
  22. You know, there is a shut-off valve on the rear passenger side of the head. A heater hose seems to go to it. I didn't quite know why it was there. I didn't understand the pathway to the heater.
