  1. I concur with everything greg g wrote. Just want to add 2 things. Being a 1940, you may like mine has, a special ground strap stud. This stud is part of one of the 2 bolts that fastens the generator bracket to block. The alligator jumper wire should have a fuse, for example 30A.
  2. So my battery finally gave up last year and now I can get back after some 4 year with the OEM battery fabrication. Bought an Exide EU140-6 which is available here and has flat sides. Made arrangements with friends, one is a carpenter and another who owns a vinyl wrap sticker company. They both think I'm insane but I already knew that. ? Carpenter will produce ribbed wavy moldings(probably wrong word) and glue them to battery side. He'll also make the 2 pieces behind logos. Vinyl guy will wrap it, carefully pressing it into contours. Thanks to desoto1939 I worked on the layout and this is what I came up with. This took some time to do. Also I'm not sure of the yellow color. I wonder it it's an artist drawing. Is this yellow used elsewhere with MoPar? Any ideas?
  3. Love the Floating Power inscription. Chrysler corporation where really proud of it and with good reasons. Found it stamped on bracket for front engine mount during motor restoration years ago. Have other found theirs? Ups, changing the subject again...sorry ?
  4. According to Uncle Tech, it consists of the panel gauge, a sealed capillary tube and Bourdon bulb filled with liquid ether. A quick look on the internet and there are several who can repair them. Included is PDF pages from SERVICE REFERENCE BOOK GAUGES. Let me know if someone wants the whole booklet. Pages from 1950 Gauges-2.pdf
  5. You also increased your compression. Now calculate that. Original head bore size and larger cylinder bores will produce a squeeze effect. I hope my English is understandable ?
  6. I've never seen any body documentation from Briggs. They must be out there somewhere. Unlike Fisher, they printed catalogs each year for there GM line. Here's an example.
  7. I hade to buy 4 different broken ones to make 2. Plastic part was heated and removed showing the internals. One had pin but missing spring. Took a spring from a pen. Hope you can find the link.
  8. white plastic. got a photo? I have some different knob styles.
  9. Yes mine had these. Swapped them out with the luxury package with flippers and chrome indicator arm. Escutcheon are very rare. They look like other MoPars but are flatter.
  10. Yes but it just puzzles me they where so good back then. I learn now it contained lead.
  11. i have no knowledge of paint, but removing engine color from my Cadillac motor was a struggle. Wire brush on angle grinder and ultrasonic bath couldn't remove it in some areas. I guess color was burned in. It took 3 days and my body was covered in steel needle missiles........ Oh wait, am I changing subject again? ?
  12. Get a three speed with overdrive, get a straight 8.....not happening where I live. ?
  13. And they both are rechargeable ? Joke aside, could you explain more about your vacuum advance tool ? I see shop air intake, regulator, fitting for vacuum chamber and presumably outlet on the Tee for a manometer. And then? @Tom Skinner The booklet calls for a distributor tester, but interesting facts about washers.
  14. I've seen single top double cylinder and others with dual single cylinders. Which models used which application?
  15. Oh ......is that what he meant....?
  16. Thank you for your detailed explanation. I must admit I'm more confused now ? I have been staring at your photo for a while and it looks like a manual transmission ? I can see the overdrive on the left, it looks like the model 282/283 pictured in my book, but if's almost as big as transmission case, and will require a shorter propeller shaft ? My transmission has no tail shaft, just the a narrow holder for the brake. Has this OD anything to do with ODs with R numbers?
  17. Now that you mention it. I do recall it shifted faster with more "clunk" with the 10W oil
  18. Correct me if I'm wrong but aren't multigrade oil low number when "cold" and high number when "warm"? Transmission never get hot enough to change the grade to 30 ?
  19. I also use ISO 32. I have easy access to ISO oils so I experimented. Tried SAE 10W but gear shift is bit noisy. ISO 15 same noise as SAE10W This year will try ISO 46. It should be too thick but alright for a worn transmission.
  20. LaSalle ended in 1940. Convertibles are rare. Grab one if you can. 1941-42 LaSalle became the shorter Cadillac Series 61. Don't know about "boss", but it pleases me no other similar models at rallies. Thanks @MarcDeSoto send you a PM
  21. I recon 80's cars had a rust issue and withered away ?
  22. Like other places, pre war enthusiasts are few and generally consist of mature men ? Most popular US cars are the winged monsters, muscle cars and Ford traditionall hot rods. Mine is a LaSalle but I called a Cadillac in non LaSalle forums. Unlike you, who obviously are a learned person, very few know what it is, and explanation takes too long ?
