  1. a craigslist search turns up two in your area, both $8500. and both on the road. one more or less original, one with a chevy 305 and automatic. if you are willing to spend damn near $5k for a project, why not look at a finished truck for $3k more? if you could get the project pair for $2k, it might be worth pursuing. as a comparison, i got my '48 1.5 ton home for $2.5k, and have $2.5k additional into it. it is registered and on the road, and i put about 1500 miles per year on it.
  2. close, but not always. it is possible to have the system properly bled without a firm pedal. that is another symptom of too much shoe clearance. the test is two quick pumps. first shows no firmness, second is solid pedal at the top. wally
  3. the ice gets put in an ice house here, too. gets used for various things on the farm. the first year i hauled ice, we put 44 blocks on the truck, so the load was probably well above 8500 lbs. needed low range first gear to get off the lake that time. wally
  4. a third pic of ice day: first load was 23 blocks, @ 225 per block (5000+ lbs). 2nd load was 16 blocks (no more blocks available).
  5. another pic of ice harvest:
  6. from the local annual "ice harvest" yesterday. mild temperatures (about 33*):
  7. and another, from a different year, same location, photo by john burns:

  9. just an FYI, dave (greybeard) passed away a bit ago.
  10. good luck turning it into a daily driver on a tight budget. that truck will be lucky to get 9 mpg. i have a '48 1.5 ton, with the 2-speed rear, and it gets between 6 to 8 mpg. it can be made a daily driver. it won't be cheap. as far as the brakes go, they should have a remote booster behind the cab. when the brake system on these medium size trucks is working correctly, you can easily lock up the wheels. wally
  11. 152" 12 foot bed. 16 foot load.
  12. a little skidder bridge panel hauling this morning. the panels are made of six 8"x8"x16' hardwood cants, and weigh about 1600 lbs per panel. there are three in the load. took it fine, dump body made it easy to unload them. needed 1st gear low range to get to the landing.
  13. i took my 1-fa out today. a cool 15* F for the high. took a few miles before the rear end would shift into high range. glad i have the fresh air package; the heater works well. put about 24 miles on it.
  14. they weren't. dodge used southern yellow pine, not white pine.
  15. it is rough sawn eastern white pine, 10" wide boards. the idea was to mimic the style of barn commonly built with greek revival houses from 1860. i think i got it.
  16. i surmise the erroneous information about the original dodge truck beds being hardwoods results from the common description of southern yellow pine as hard pine, which then gets described as "hardwood".
  17. here is my new barn/garage, with the sikkens cetol natural color. i don't know, would not be my first choice for a truck bed color...
  18. i just used sikkens cetol natural on the new barn. bright orange on the shiplap pine. for the flatbed of my '48 dump body, i applied used motor oil to the hemlock. i add a coat every fall, which reminds me i need to get it done soon...gives it a nice dark grey finish, and costs nothing.
  19. if it is an "A", either an FA or HA, it will have a 2-speed rear axle, vacuum shift.. an eaton 1350.
  20. perhaps the repair "insert" has to be staked to the wiper arm cavity.
  21. typical from you (see the pertronix thread from years ago, whereby you claimed the link you provided was direct from the pertronix manufacturer). you make a factually incorrect statement (some information may be correct, but there is nonetheless incorrect information proferred). when asked to clarify, you offer statements purporting to substantiate your claim. yet, when challenged to provide this "clear and obvious" information from the source you reference (in this case, the GA DMV website) you refuse, and instead throw back another "offer", in this case, a phone number. i guess you win. you know more about everything than anyone else. (note to GTK/GGDAD: this is my last post in this particular thread, except to offer an apology to mr adams if he provides the information that he claims is there).
  22. it isn't don's thread. maybe he could start another if he requires help? PM a link with the GA DMV information specific to your statement. i searched the GA DMV, but could not find it. you claim it is clearly there. take the opportunity to prove it.
  23. and you state in that first post "all 49 other states honor georgia's" etc, etc. that's why it's relevant.
