  1. Thanks. I’m checking wire connections first then I’ll decide if I need to remove the tumbler assembly.
  2. Thanks. Does the tumbler assembly need to come out first?
  3. I believe one comes in the engine gasket kit but I don’t know if it’s sold separately. I used an o-ring on mine. It works fine. Just take your distributor with you and find one that fits.
  4. I’m sure this has been covered before but. How do you remove the ignition switch from the dash of a 52 Coronet? I need to check the wiring connections and with my back problems getting under the dash isn’t happening.
  5. Thanks as always Rich. You always provide great information. Do you have trouble with spongy brakes? I used Dot 5 in my last car and could never get the brakes bled properly. They worked fine but the pedal never felt right.
  6. 56 was the year Mopar switched to 12 volt negative ground.
  7. Thanks. I always forget about that.
  8. The Imperial club website has tons of information about the trans also.
  9. I’m chasing a problem with my Coronet and one of my suspicions is that it jumped time. I rebuilt the engine about 1000 miles ago and the timing chain and gears are new. Is there any way to check this without disassembling the front of the engine?
  10. That’s it! Thanks! I’ll check mine when I get home.
  11. Wow! How many different setups did they use? I really wish I’d taken a picture lol.
  12. It’s different from mine but I appreciate the help.
  13. I did some valve work on my 52 Coronet and I’m not sure I got the throttle linkage back together correctly. Can someone please take a picture of the pivot point on the head? It’s working but it looks strange. Thanks.
  14. Moore’s Auto Salvage in South Dakota also.
  15. Wow you are really ambitious! Great work!
  16. That’s a rare car and it’s not in bad shape. I’ve definitely seen worse. As far as parts interchange I’m guessing you’re going to have to fix what you have. The front door might be the same as the town sedan model but those are fairly rare also. A DeSoto Suburban might be the same. Take things one step at a time. Does it run or does the engine turn freely if not? Get a service manual if you don’t already have one and a parts manual. Both have information on the long wheelbase model. Keep us posted.
  17. I only have the tube springs. Maybe that’s the problem.
  18. My Coronet needs a prop to keep the hood open. The springs don’t hold at all anymore.
  19. Are you sure the wheel isn’t splined? I’ve never seen one that isn’t but I’m not familiar with the older stuff. Mine is a 52.
  20. Greg my other distributor is correct for 49-50. I forget the number but the correct one is the IAT4011. Both work equally well. All I need to do now is adjust the points gap. My dwell is 28 and should be 36-38. That’s what I get for using a feeler instead of my dwell meter.
  21. The basic body shell is the same I believe.
  22. As the saying goes 90 percent of fuel problems are ignition. I checked the fuel system and even installed my other carb. No luck. I also have a second distributor although not technically correct for my 52. That solved the problem so I’m going to install some tune up parts in the original distributor and see how that goes. Thanks for all the advice.
  23. I don’t believe there’s extra payload. They were designed for door to door salesmen so more volume than weight. If your engine still turns freely a new head gasket and bolts may be all you need to get it running again. Not overly expensive.
  24. Greg I’ve never gotten above 17 inches on the vacuum gauge no matter what. My vacuum port is on the intake manifold behind the carb if that makes any difference. I’m going to dig into it tomorrow. I did take a quick test drive and it still stumbled until around 50 mph then it’s fine. No power pulling a hill through. I do have a 2nd carb. If nothing else I can switch fairly quickly to see if that helps.
