  1. LOL no one seems to be jumping on this one...different schools different thoughts. Myself, if head and block surfaces are in very good shape I go dry. If they are usable but rough I go with a sealer of some sort. Like Permatex. Not a big fan of sealing gaskets. That is their job alone. Also some will use a sealer on copper gaskets, why, dont know. Ask several people and you will get several answers.
  2. 6 volt starter running on 12volts....cant get much torqier (spelling)
  3. The second one looks like mine...41 was brown
  4. One thing to remember is that if you have a high milage engine that has been running 30w non detergent oil, you may be asking for trouble. There will be lots of sludge in the pan that you may break loose. I will take a litre of pheromones..should make that engine stand up and take notice.....will probably try to improve the gene pool of some Furds and Chubbies....
  5. Chevron Delo 400 15/40.....got the good stuff in it.
  6. Merry Christmas to all forum members....
  7. This is a quote from BW manual When the electrical components of a B-W OD are not functioning this is all that the transmission will do - freewheel. Freewheeling at speed is dangerous and can lead to loss of control due to increased brake use. However a properly functioning B-W OD does NOT freewheel at speeds above 28 mph. In a properly functioning OD engine braking DOES happen. The thought that engine braking is not possible is a major misconception for a B-W OD transmission.
  8. I am confused about the claims of freewheeling while in OverDrive. Mine only freewheels when OD selected and under 26 mph...going down hill at highway speeds I can hear the pipes rapping......anyone else notice this....
  9. Keep an eye on ebay and every once in a while a gear shift knob will come up. It is a grounding switch. I hooked mine up to another relay so when I push the button the trans shifts out of od.
  10. You do not need a special carb for over drive.....just put the kickdown switch in conjuntion with the carb linkage.....any where you can make it fit. Like Jim I use a switch on the gear shift lever.....works much better.
  11. Funny looking poly covers.....wheres the scallops thart set them apart......could get better pics? Don has the right ones
  12. I like Dons choice of ratios. I will have to get a different rear end because of the park brake issue. Gather more parts then put my head down and my ass up and Git er done.
  13. Muffler shop had no problem making mine up....cheaper too.
  14. Saw one at a show in California last winter, very similar operation but double the price.....Im gonna think about this one. I have to replace the one in the car anyway so it is not a whole lot more to up grade to this one
  15. You fellas that have converted to a T5 Borg Warner trany. Which transmission did you go with? WC or NWC? From which vehicle? What did you do for a clutch? Thanks Rick
  16. Cory....the moment the points open spark occurs. the gap continues to open as the engine rotates. This should happen at TDC, or where you have your timing set. I would advise you to have some one who understands these engines come to your shop and get it running. These engines are simple in their operation. You are getting so much information coming your way you may be getting overloaded. Good luck.
  17. I ran NGK with poor results. Now run Champion with no trouble at all....guess you can get duds with anything.....
  18. Unless you go to a monster coil you will not gain voltage.....Pertronics is an electronic replacement for points. You will hear pros and cons, my con is if you are away from home and have problems with Pertronics you may be down waiting for parts. I converted to Mopar electronic out of a slant 6. Very happy with the way the car runs. No hesitation at any speed, quick starts, and reliable. Just have to carry a ballast resistor with me.
  19. Sounds like a loss of vacumn. Your compression is not the problem. Hook up a vacumn gauge and let us know what it reads when running smooth and when it runs rough.
  20. Don....do you leave the end gaskets just as you see it in your photo......
