  1. I guess the days of trusting our fellow man is long gone......to bad. Buying and selling on line is getting too risky. Best way is touch it then pay cash. Even if you find this clown not much happens. Unless I find him....lol
  2. Man that looks pretty bad. never seen such sludge build up. You may be in for a surprise when you open the bottom end.... I can save you the trouble and stop by and take it off your hands...... Really, nice find.....One .040 over? , it will make a good powerful engine.
  3. To start with the float on the carb is not shutting off the flow of fuel. Needle is stuck open.....dirt? One dead cylinder should not prevent the engine from starting. Can you hear any popping noises in the exhaust or intake when cranking the engine.....Stuck valve? Check the oil filler and see if it puffs while cranking.....bad piston..... Timing next.
  4. Another Champion Cooling fan....
  5. Nice buy....I have heard before that if you mis spell your search you can find deals like these....nice to see it work once in a while.
  6. I picked up a product in the US that works the best I have ever seen Totally Awesome.......thats the name. Buck a bottle.....cleans everything.....
  7. Yellow....speed up you can still make it...I am more improtant than anyone else.....Plus I will be at the next red right in front of you... See it every day......
  8. Looks like a traffic light.....
  9. A thermostat is not an on off switch....It is always cycling between open and closed. When the coolant from the rad gets to the thermostat is reduces the opening thus allowing the rad to do its job and the collant to absorb engine heat. Thermostats begin to open at their assigned value and are fully open above that somewhat. Make sense?
  10. Don....is this self cancelling?
  11. Not a big deal. Just cut off the 90 and use a formed hose. Lots at your local auto parts stores.
  12. Larry, and any one else http://www.packardinfo.com/xoops/html/downloads/BW_OD.pdf this is the manual...
  13. Larry.....the button does not take care of the push pull cable... If you do a search you should find a schematic that shows the factory installation. Easy to follow. With the vehicle in OD and you go into reverse there is a shaft in the trans that moves the gear set out of OD. Where you have to be carefull is when you park and the car is in OD. You MUST set the park brake. At that point the trany will free wheel.
  14. I used /6 electronic distributor and converted it to fit the L6. Can get parts anywhere. On a recent group run, one car had the pertronix fail....guess what could not find parts...a shop had tp jury rig points and condensor. Failure can happen to anyone, but.
  15. I am leaning to ignition....points, or condensor. Even worn distributor bushings Cure.....electronic ignition...cured mine.
  16. there should be a rod in the trans that shifts out of OD when you select reverse. Yes first OD is just for show....now have a 6 speed...( with strange ratios ) How ever you have it hooked up, if it works, all is good.
  17. I have to ask, why cut out the govoner? I have the same set up and the govenor is functional. Using two Bosch relays. First one hooked to the shift knob, normally closed then to the second relay the second to the govenor normally open. Can shift in and out of OD at will.
  18. Or the steering wheel is flexing. Happens when the plastic is cracked.
  19. Greg...my point was, if you can not afford the oil filter what about the other expenses you are going to come accross. It was not that you are in trouble because you have no filter. My 58 chev had no filter and ran just fine.
  20. If your budget does not allow for a filter, you are in trouble from the get go....
  21. Langdons for twin carb manifold and reds headers for headers..they are not hard to find. Do your research swapping for an automatic, might not be happy with it. R10Overdrive is an easy swap. Just remember you are starting with about 100 HP. Not much room to gain gobbs of power. 10% of 100 is 10, 10% of 300 is 30. as you can see there is no big jump from 100HP. These engines have tons of torque and that is what makes them shine. Good Luck
  22. What brand of plugs are you using.....seems that Champion work best in these engines.....ask me how know. sounds like you are in the right area, the distributor.
  23. No to Eggy, just shave your headYes to Reds headers....good value for the money
  24. You would only have to put the toggle in series. No need to ground. The gov is a grounding device. If you were to ground the toggle switch you would in fact be telling the od relay to operate.
