  1. Update: I wanted to thank everyone for their input - I chose to rebuild my 6volt instead of finding another 12volt starter afterall. I found a guy in Torrance who collects (and collected over many years) old orig parts of all kinds. He is over 80 years old and man - he had an amazing collection of cars and parts. He had the correct orig bendix in the orig box for my 1947 Dodge D24 Business Coupe and a core for me to use ( I needed the nose of the starter because one of the ear tabs broke off of mine) So I'll be putting on the rebuilt starter and rebuilt master cylinder next week and getting backon the road. thank you everyone Michael Courtney
  2. Thank you Tim. I would like to know if he has any left... I appreciate you asking. I've been quoted $300.00 from a manufacturer in the LA, CA area for a high torque smaller starter, but that seems high?
  3. Has anybody replaced their orig stock master cylinder with a newer updated one? Can anybody recommend one?
  4. I recently had to replace my 6 volt starter because the bendix snapped and I got a reconditoned 12 volt that fit the same bolt pattern and I didn't like how slowly it started and then that bendix broke too!! So I'd like to know if anybody recommends a powerful and tough little starter?? MC
  5. I'm in Marina Del Rey, Ca. Very close to LAX.
  6. Took off the bumper and the rear fenders. There are a lot of bolts holding those rear fenders on!. Took some minor dents out of both rear fenders and primed them. Putting some vintage fog lights on, a tachometer, and I need to replace my exhaust and muffler. Has anybody had luck going to "Midas" or a name brand muffler shop to replace a stock system?
  7. I don't drive the dark blue 1946 one "Sluggo" much but The black one "Bruno" the 1947 gets driven the most, It has 77K orig miles on it now. I like driving it better because it is geared differently. It will do 65 on the freeway, but "Sluggo" will reluctantly push 50mph.
  8. I bought a black faced one...it a vintage one I picked up at the Long Beach swap meet last weekend. I'm hooking it up next week and I'll take some pictures of it.
  9. Thank you for the welcomes gentelmen ...yes, That was me in 2008 Mr.Coatney...maybe you remember because we have similar last names? Just for the record, I am keeping my coupes stock - with a few upgrades - a tach, a vacuum pressure meter, some vintage fog lights, a stereo in the glove box, leather interior on one of them, and I'm fitting the rear bumper in my black 47 closer to the vehicle by 4 inches.(I like how these look without the rear bumper but I can't go that far) I'm putting in new vent window rubber now too.
  10. Hello all, I've been a silent member for a while...and I wanted to introduce myself. As I'm getting into the restoration of one of my bone stock business coupes I have wanted to reach out and share and maybe also connect with local members. I included some photos. I'm currently doing some work on my black 1947 D24 biz coupe - having some dents taken out of my rear fenders, trying to get my fuel gauge to work, putting in a new exhaust (anybody have advice on a more simple exhaust option than the stock one?) thanks guys, Michael Courtney
