  1. For the price you have quoted for a new sol. I would buy the new one. You are going to spend just about that much on a repair anyway. In the end you will still have an old sol. All sorts of things can go wrong when shipping from one side of the world to the other.
  2. This thread is getting a bit much...thought some of these people had more class then this...maybe the forum moderator should stop the thread before it really gets out of hand.
  3. Scam, Scam, Scam.....Same guy tried to buy my camper the same way....Just wished he would fall off his ship and go away...
  4. You have no idea as to the condition of the starter on the inside. When using a 6 volt starter in a 12 volt system you should have the starter completely rebuilt. There is a contact under the button that is exposed to a lot of arching and this may be the problem you are having. It should spin fast enough that you could drive away with it.
  5. STARTING FLUID......your fired.....never use that stuff..... If you have fuel and spark you have to check the timing furthur...
  6. Nice ride Neil......900 cars is a big show....
  7. With the long tail shaft and the linkage set up I would guess possbly GM...Ford...Packard or someting other than Mopar....
  8. If a crank will strech while hanging it will twist while under torq, and should be avoided at all cost....it takes a lot to mis-shape a crank by the position it is in. Best way to store it is standing un-wrapped and sealed up with cosmoline or grease...my 2 cents worth
  9. Then there is the problem of the header location.....the engine is best suited for right hand drive cars....
  10. Anyone loan me their credit card....Cool Factor only 8000 aus dollars plus shipping..... maybe a crate 5.7 is in the cards
  11. It sure would have "Cool Factor" written all over it. HMMMM wonder what the shipping costs would be to Vancouver BC from Aus? I would go with a 5 spd trans. As for fitting it in, no problem for me....Afterall we have long winters up here.
  12. I saw a Dodge hot rod at the West Yellowstone Rod Run with an Aussy Hemi 6 cylinder. Anyone know of any for sale in North America....Would be an interesting fit into my 41 P12
  13. I still can't figure out why a nice old Mopar can not bring in the money a Ford a Chev brings in. I know my Plymouth has a lot of money invested and would not leave the yard at those prices.
  14. good on you....there is no better feeling then cruising down the highway listening to the old flatty purr....I cruise at 55 - 60 in overdrive and it feels like it will go on for ever....
  15. How much do you add per 100 miles? I just drove 2200 miles on 1 quart.... These cars are like old Harley's......When you get one that does not leak that means it is out of oil.
  16. 2200 miles round trip...home safe and sound...Car ran great...
  17. bamsfordsgarage... I have a 218, twin carb, headers, .040 overbore and .040 shaved off the head. Suspension is stock. Overdrive R10 into 3:91 rear end. Milage cruising 60mph is around 21/22mpg. Imperial. Pretty good considering the age....
  18. Old Idaho....sorry I missed you....I came back just after you left so I hung around to see if you would come back....bummer......would be nice to meet some faces on this forum.....On a high note I was a trophy winner today.....Sponors Choice. Our group of 14 cars took 4 trophy's....there was around 400 cars, it was quite a show..
  19. Old Idaho Iron.....look me up at the show.... Rockwood....heating came about climbing thru the passes....had to kick it out of overdrive going up. Also the guys I am travelling with all have "hot rods" and cruise 60-70 mph....The faster I went the hotter she got. I can do 70 but it sits on 212'. I just slow down to 60 and it runs 180 - 200. And it is in the high 80s to low 90s which does not help.
  20. Just made the 1000 mile trip to West Yellowstone from Campbell River BC....Car ran great, although was a little low on power coming over some of the passes. Overheating was an issue that I will address when I get home. Has anyone built a larger capacity radiator? If so what did you do?
  21. Unless you changed to a full flow oil system you have a "bypass" filter and if it were plugged it would not cause your oil pressure problem. Check your gauge like you indicated and the check the oil pressure valve spring.
  22. You can put in any engine into any car.....Friend of mine has a 427 BBC in an Austin A40...
  23. I put a plate on mine ready for water hook up...but then the car sits in storage all winter so there is no need for heat. I see no reason to put a plate on the intake unless you have mice at your place..
  24. I used stock gaskets for mine.....only issue is the flange on the headers are tinner than the flange on the intake. I made stepped washers for fix that.
  25. You will be happy with Red's Headers. I bought the uncoated ones and sprayed them with Header paint and they look good.
