I rebuilt this to flip. I found three same year Suburbans, by selling hard to find parts the cars were free and I had parts I needed free as well. Guess what, there is no free lunch. I could have made more money as a Wallmart greeter and with my STML made new friends every day!

When car mfgrs make a prototype, are those bodies hand fabricated?

I was / am aware of each and every posted comment. I have done a lot of welding both stic and wire feed. I guess, I foolishly showed the picture to show how I was trying to get a good spot weld and could not. I was trying different temps, different wire speeds, etc. and early concluded I needed cleaner, better metal and a better welder. remember, I am still a novice at this, so when I plundge into a new unknown, I will need time to discover even 101 "whatever". Encouragement, helpful information, honest non personal criticism welcomed, the remainder not so much. Most octogenarians are in couches, homes, wheel chairs, 7' X 3' boxes, I'm out in my shop learning how to do new things. Cheers! This is what hat I used. I can upgrade this welder to a gas tank, and can increase the electrical to 220 amps. Please advise.

Well I tried! That patch won't fly, will cut it out and start over. Good place to practice. That thin metal is like welding toilet paper. May need a better welder which has wire and gas.

Dave, yes air and moisture will come through the opening. I made this opening too large, future ones will only be about 10" long and 4" wide. Either way, I will make a flexible boot to keep all moving objects below the floor. I will certainly consider your suggestion. TKS.

TKS Los, in the process I found a local sheet metal shop which made the two center pieces. I may still remove the pieces made from scrap metal, and have that shop form me some nice new accurate pieces. I'm using that electrical box to protect my master cylinder. That will be changed out. I'm not certain how I will replace the plywood shifter mini console, maybe 3/8" aluminum plate, bolted together into a "box" with a side pocket for my .45! LOL

On my truck I didcas Tim suggested. I just made certain all was centered, the threads are large so if it gets snug before the shoulder is snug, remove and restart a half turn earlier or later. I don't recall how, but the bushings move the grease around as the shackles work. Someone may want to explain that.

Some decades ago on a business trip to Georgia, the person I was traveling with always had a small towel on the console. when I asked, why the towel? He raised it to reveal a .45 revolver. It is easy to add bucket seat mounts. In the '53. The outer bench seat front mounts can be used, just add a second for the inner mount. For the bucket rear mounts, weld in a strong cross bar behind each bucket. The pic is a rough test, the seat is not in the correct place. It will look differently when finished. The bench mounts have not been changed, so a bench can replace at any time.

Dave, agreed on the head rests. They are wired for a computer screen, but kids any more use their devices so the headrests are safety only, yet too noticeable in this cabin. With the OE in storage, even the purist has an out if he wants one. The passenger seat will require some tilt forward mount.

A 45!

Today I set in the bucket seat to check positioning. I placed it to duplicate the seat in my Honda Accord. It fits nicely and the rear seat panel conversion for a utility cabin work as designed. Will do dual mounts for buckets or for 60/40 bench. The shift handle is in easy reach.

I have opened this posting separated from my build postings due to the specific nature of bucket seats. The bucket seats I'm using are 2010 Lincoln Town car seats. I paid $200 for the pair. I will dye them black/gray. The dimensions noted match those in my Honda Accord. I checked and the tray seat will flip forward and the drop down floor plate will flip down as designed as well.

Dave, good advise. I was planning to make dual mount holes or stub holes, as required. At 80, I no longer put in 8+ hrs at a time. So do what the body allows. I'm not complaining, just saying it as it is.

After some more research I will reinforce that area of the floor for bench or bucket seats. Then I will use the available buckets and save me a ton of time and money. Later, the bench can still go in if preferred.

Plymouthy taught me that the net is my friend. So found the answer, these mounts are correct. Now will possibly have to get this seat bead blasted. Then learn how to sew. My wife knows how so will work with her.
