  1. Vacuum Leak?
  2. And of course right after I reply that I do need one, he sends me an e-mail saying he will ship it tomorrow. I will let you know if I do need one. Thanks much for replying.
  3. Yes, I do. A friend who sells used and NOS parts is supposed to have one but I am waiting to hear back from him. If you have a good one, I am interested.
  4. I purchased 4 used radials for my 52 Plymouth as the cost of new is pretty high for a car that sees minimal usage. I am happy with them(2 are nearly new Hancooks and two other that I don't recognize are not quite as good). They seem to have very good road manners. I really don't remember much about Bias tires since I stopped buying them in the 70's for anything. So I would recommend radials unless you are really set on stock look. I really don't drive very fast(50 or 55 pretty much max) so high speed cruising is not a major factor in my decisions of what to buy.
  5. I think that like most of us retirees you will find yourself asking the age old question" How in the heck did I ever find time to work". My cars still wait for me to find the time to do even simple stuff.
  6. Filled the tank and heated the heck out of the little so and so. Finally got it out and rust was the problem. Must have been in since 1952
  7. Yeah, since putting a pipe wrench and a long extension and standing on it and jumping up and down did no good(235 pounds of me) I expect that either filling my oxygen tank or getting out the air drill are the only options.
  8. The right side came off easily so I expect it is rust or more frighteningly some POR 15 got into the hole when I undercoated it about 10 years ago. I am afraid I am going to have to change the whole backing plate. Sigh. More fun.
  9. The castle nut is off, the bolt itself will not come out of the backing plate and tie rod connector.
  10. Hello Friends and Neighbors, I am in the process of replacing all 6 wheel cylinders on my 1952 Plymouth and have run into a problem removing the left front lower wheel cylinder. I have been unable to get the anchor bolt to come out of the tie rod connecting piece that fastens to the backing plate. And by extension through the backing plate. I am assuming that rust is the issue as I cannot turn the anchor bolt either direction. PB Blaster and pounding on the end of the bolt(to the point that I have pretty much destroyed the castle nut) have not worked. I have not used heat as yet due to the grease and brake fluid in the area. I was wondering if there is anything else holding the wheel cylinder in place that I have missed. It is soaking in PB blaster as of now and I will do that for a couple of days while I work on the rest of them. Any help appreciated. Thanks.

  12. I just sold a 59 Chevy Apache pickup that my wife' s late Uncle had for $400 and thought it was a good deal for me. I would never have tackled it by myself even if Chevys were my thing.
  13. What killed me on Plymouths(which I dearly loved) was a New 1883 Reliant K that burned out 3 clutches in 15,000 miles. Chrysler replaced 2 and told us the third was our responsibility because"We did not know how to drive the car". This with two drivers who had been raised on Manual cars and never a problem. I later found out that the front Suspension was so damaged from a presale problem that the car could not even have a front end Alignment. Complained to the Chrysler "Consumer Appeal Board" . Was told that they had replaced two clutches and that there could not be anything wrong with the car or it would not have been sold. Bleep you, we got your money. Two weeks later I traded it in on a one year old Cavalier that proceeded to last for 12 years and 143,000 miles. Now, other that my two Old Plymouths, we own a 2012 Kia Soul and a host of Chevrolets. A couple of months after I traded it the Reliant pulled up next to me at a stoplight. When the driver pulled away, the car died(a trait that the car had since day one.) I can't imagine owning another Chrysler Product under any Circumstances.
  14. I did this on a 1983 Chevy Cavalier station Wagon. Worked like a charm
  15. I was there about 2 years ago with other members of Dairyland Plymouth Club in my Volare. Great show. Too many cars to see.
  16. I cleaned and relined the one in my 52 Plymouth about 10 years ago and have had no problems. I think it was a POR 15 product I used.
  17. $Gas at $3.29. Sigh, just a dream here. That would really take me into the past, Old Plymouth or not.
  18. Then and Now Automotive in Mass. is run by good and knowledgeable people http://www.maritimedragracing.com/then_and_now_automotive.htm
  19. I cannot see a reason why not. I have done that many times on old and new cars without a problem. I would solder them though because I have seen too many solderless connecters come apart. Then tape or shrink wrap with rubber shrink tubing. My 2cents.
  20. I have replaced several clutches over the years most recently on my 52 Plymouth and have never had any problems with anything. The most I've ever done is smooth it with a fine emery cloth
  21. Does he have any 51/52 Plymouth parts? I am about an hour or so from there.
