  1. A number of years ago I had a 1961 Rambler that had a very long tie rod end that had gone bad. I could not find one and When I couldn't I spoke to an old Welder near me. He told me to get a replacement rod for the other side(very available at that time) and he would cut the end off the new rod and weld the new part onto the old rod after cutting off the old part. He did this slowly(so as not to melt the plastic around the new tip) and when he finished the rod was as good as new. It lasted as long as I had the car(several years) without getting loose. Maybe something like this would work. I admit to not remembering exactly what the center link looks like without crawling under my 52 Plymouth.
  2. The Rich are Different from me.
  3. How about these folks. They post a lot on the AACA site and from what I read several members have used their service. Don't know about cost. I looked and they have several 1940 Dodge parts available. They are a Steering parts suppler and claim to be able to supply most parts for all cars. http://www.larescorp.com/
  4. Welcome. A Beautiful car for sure. Hope you have a lot of fun with it.
  5. On my 52 the right rear turn signal doesn't work. Once did, now not. Brake and tail lights work. Ground good. probably a broken wire. You might want to check into that with a continuity tester.
  6. Great times for all concerned
  7. I would think that the cost of repairing such a short line would be much more that a replacement. Have you checked into a new line?
  8. Work hard and be successful. A good mantra. Wish you well
  9. After you get your degree and that $100,000 a year job then you can hire someone to do all the work! Oh, Wait....
  10. Maybe, but snow is finally gone here. Huzzah!!!!!
  11. And just last Sunday I saw one of the new Weinermobiles going south on the Tri-State tollway in northern Il. Got off headed toward Libertyville, Il.
  12. And Drives: What a Magnificent Polluter it is!
  13. Say what you will about the old VW's, their ad people were the best.
  14. Unless tires wear out or get dry rot cracks I try to use them as long as I can. I run radials on everything and my biggest concerns have been dry rot and broken belts(wire sticking out of the side.). I do use either silicone spray or tire dressing to try to protect them
  15. I love to visit places like that. Thanks for posting the pictures
  16. I too was surprised by the torque amount of the hubs as well. Although an old Rambler Ambassador I once had had the rear axles at something like 350 Foot Pounds. Had to borrow a four foot long wrench from a friend who worked at our local Nuclear Plant(gone now, friend and plant).
  17. I think I gonna leave mine the way it is, didn't want to take the drums off again anyway.
  18. Not to be anymore of a stinker than I have to be I could not help but note the suggestion about putting a little grease on the taper of the rear axle. On the car side I have been informed that this is a very bad thing to do. Are the trucks different or is this simply a disagreement in the correct way to do things. Wondering because I also put a small coat of grease on the axles of my 52 Cranbrook to make removal in the future less "fun". And am hoping not to have to disassemble the rear drums again to remove the grease as has been suggested.
  19. I have back flushed cars years ago but stopped when an old mechanic told me to be careful because it was possible that the materials loosened but the back-flushing might be caught in the heater core due to the small tubes and plug it up.
  20. Looks great. I used to paint cars in my spare time, haven't in years. Used Acrylic Enamel. Not sure how I would do in Base/Clear.
  21. My Daughter's Mother-in-Law sent this to her to send to me. She is from England and keeps closely in touch with many activities that go on there. https://www.youtube.com/embed/huQhqXiB8O0
  22. And the worst(best?) part is someone will buy most of it.
  23. Maybe these guys? http://www.datatags.com/
  24. I am continually amazed how much stuff costs. I sometimes wonder if any of it sells, then remember that they only have to sell one to be so far ahead the rest doesn't matter.
