  1. That's a very collectible piece to the Chevy crowd. I've seen restored ones for $1000.00 Very cool in my opinion. You have something of value or/or a unique piece for your Mopar
  2. Do I see a trend of Hot Rod P15s? Cool! Love to see all Mopar components.
  3. I don't know with certainty that the offset is achieved via the front engine mount but,....it makes sense. Hopefully someone else will chime in. The point where the engine mount mates to the frame may be diff, considering that interface to the frame may have changed some between 1940 and 1956. Addressing that diff. should be a no brainer if you are confident enough to do an engine change. Good luck. Keep asking questions.
  4. Okay "Cheese Head" welcome! I'm surprised no one has jumped on the install and steering issue. For starters, installing the Poly would be almost an identical install as on the 56 Plymouth. Additionally understand that Mopar had the steering issue with their first V8s going in cars that were previously 6s. If the Poly you're considering is still in the car, I'm betting you'd find the engine offset to the passenger side something like 1.5". I know that was the case with '53 Dodge HEMIs and that was done in production so's the HEMI head/valve cover would clear the stock steering column,....nada problem with the earlier and still optional straight 6. The offset in production is not apparent unless you put a tape measure on it. When you acquire the Poly be sure to get as much of the Plymouth mounting hardware as you can. I'm betting you could use much of it w/o modification, I believe it would account for the offset and would simplify your install. Go for it man!!! No guts no glory!!! It would be really cool!!! And, there's lotsa help on this forum,,,,,maybe along with a few snide comments about modifying a stock car. Keep us posted.
  5. You'll get lotsa input from this group. I sure like your idea. I have a '40 Sedan and hope to some day install the Poly I am building as a long term and a separate project. What Poly do you have? Could it be a 259 from a Plymouth? Dodge did a 241, a 270 and a 315. Where are you located?
  6. I've scanned all the input to your original post and here's my 2 cents. Sounds like you're not adverse to doing something different and, a "cost effective" build is what would give you the most satisfaction and quickest turn around. Aesthetics and efficient use of money and resources is my thing so here goes. As the Chev 6 and 3 spd is in and hopefully functional, for now leave it be. Stock steering will work just fine. Definitely do disk brakes and,.....I would do the Fatman dropped spindles to begin the aesthetic part. Since you have wrecking yard contact, there are any number of Mopar, Ford or Jeep rearends with the correct width and bolt pattern,...and with a more highway friendly ratio. With those upgrades you could be up and running in pretty short order. And running/driving, even with the modest changes is very satisfying. Then, while driving, you can plan your next wave of upgrades. A 4 spd would be fun,...5 would be more fun ('tho your rear ratio should be taken into account). And I'm guessing that the clutch linkage could be pretty easily worked out with the GM transmissions. Or,...why not a Th350 or 700R if you want automatic. I have a friend with a Chev 6 in front of a 700R4 and it worked quite well. Tough decisions , eh! Good luck and keep us posted, especially with pics.
  7. Any time. Most of my reference is gone into the cosmos but I will share what I have and what I can remember. FYI my P15 now has a modern V8, overdrive trans and a new IFS. Check my thread
  8. The phrase "Street Rod" jumped right out at me. My kinda guy! I started with a nice stocker with a shot rear-end. Installed a junk yard Volare rear (a Ford 8" would do) and added dropped spindles, disk brakes, beefy sway bar, and relocated shocks. Cut the springs to get it lower like the first pic. However, you must understand that getting "The look" means you must tolerate the idiosyncrasies of driving a lowered car. To me, it's well worth the shortcomings which I will explain if you are interested. Drove it with the flat 6 for several years with not a lot invested. Performance wise it was a "dog" but got a lot of strokes. Surprised the traditional Street Rod set because it was a great looking car. Now I gotta V8 and it was well worth the wait.
  9. Working on old cars is great therapy. Gives you quiet time while knowing there's a support group if you get in a jam. Best wishes. Thanks for your service. And know that we are here to help.
  10. Hope this message is not too late. Check http://www.rallyamerica.com/ These young guys are second generation wheel folks. Fresno area. Last name McLean as in McLean wire wheels. They did some wheel mods for my P-15 all by phone and UPS and I am exceptionally pleased. And re Coker tires,....they are marginal at best based on the experience of several friends. I have Excelsior Radials on my Roadster which I am very happy with. They are a bit pricey, a bit soft, sold by Coker but a much better product. Diamond Back in the Southeast is another source for quality specialty tires. You might also check Lucas Tire in Long Beach. And just read the comment from knuckleharley and agree with all his input. I have 7"x15" "Mopar Cop Car" rims on my 40 Ply.
  11. Could not find a similar subject, so I decided to start a new or another thread. Let's see pics of activities you enjoy with your car. I say it does not need to be Mopar specific as there are many other canvases of motor enthusiasm. I put together a gathering every year that includes machinery, food and music. Enjoy this link but please also share your own images of what turns your crank http://smg.photobucket.com/user/wstory/slideshow/Cable 2017?sort=2
  12. When can we see a full view of this beauty?
  13. Maybe redundundant but here's a project that could be your car. If you would like to see it or contact the owner, gimme a PM http://smg.photobucket.com/user/wstory/library/My friend Mike?sort=2&page=1
  14. This thread is old enough that I figger I'm not steeling someone's thunder. This from the weekend. The 6'3" trophy I was not allowed to take home,....or even hold!
  15. Here's a few more. We did have to revise our route because of black ice on the inclines.
  16. Went to a little Hot Rod gig in SoCal sponsored by Hop Up magazine. You guys in the North and East have no monopoly on snow and ice, ya know!
  17. What car is this? Something diff about it. Looks more robust than a stock car to me. I'd guess 42 Dodge but I thought the rear glass would be flat in what appears to be a Biz Coupe. Great looking car, none the less.
  18. My reaction time was pretty good but dementia is lurking. I scored well but can remember how I did. It was a week ago. Maybe if I wait another week, it will seem like the first time
  19. I shipped a coupla fenders via Greyhound as they were the best price and would accept the very bulky package. Discovered, counter to statements I'd heard, that just sticking a label on them was not acceptable. Had to crate 'em. As I recall it was a box about 30"x 42"x 65", but weighed less than 100#. And it went in the baggage compartment. You also need to deliver and the customer pick up at a Greyhound station. A real hassle but cost effective.
