  1. Steam engine was my Dad's. He was born in 1904. I figure this piece is a little over 100 years old. So, what's the next assignment?
  2. I know a guy who has a steam engine and another guy who knows a guy who has an old car. Does that count?
  3. Am I missing something???????????
  4. I've gotten over the hump of visualizing the solution. Did another round of models the allowed me to see some interferences and some opportunities to slightly reduce the package. Big issue for me was to figger how to mount the heat-exchanger and then plumb it for water in and out. Got a grip on all that so the next order of business, for the intercooler/blower, is to commit to aluminum,....which will come after the cruisin season. Expended minimal cash so far. This Fall/Winter the Poly needs to be opened up to understand it's health. - - - - -
  5. Two weeks and one day til we depart for Victoria. Fenders and splash panels on, brakes bled, speedo calibrated, rear springs on, A/C charged this evening. Initial front alignment tomorrow. Glass install Tues/Wed before first drive around the block.on - - - -
  6. ]A friend once said, modifying cars and/or parts is like makin prototypes. Here's my latest prototype. Transposed the 1.62" to 1.26". Seems I do that once every project. When I realized it I initially thought I could live with the asymmetrical result. However, in the middle of the night, "The Committee" woke me up to say "no way are you going to live with that goof!" Sooooo,....today I will redo and add another prototype to my scrap pile.
  7. Since my last post I have had a change of heart. In confessing my bail-out to others, I've had more input. Relevant to my issue was the observation that carbureted, supercharged boats use intercoolers. And they have a bigger temp drop at the intercooler via the use of even cooler lake water. And, and after worrying about pooling fuel in the intake manifold, I thunk,....I've seen that before, like in many engines I've worked on when flooding was an issue. So I'm back to the project and tryin to figger how to put 10lbs of "stuff" in a 5lb bag" Seems a lot of "stuff" wants to be in the same place at the same time. I am also challenged to establish the sequence of machining events (I'm learning machining too) to assure alignment of components.
  8. How cool! What I like and what I think is most important is your message that about anyone can do this stuff. One only needs to have the desire and courage to waste a little time and material. And I repeat, "it's amazing what you can get away with if you just go for it!" And,....it sure beats chasing golf balls for $100.00 a day.
  9. Only 3 weeks til we depart for Victoria
  10. At 70mph/115kmh what rpm is your engine turning?
  11. First fire likely before the end of the weekend. -
  12. The weather has been brutally hot but Mike is a trooper!....every daylight hour and more! - - - - - -
  13. - Took a little side trip to Fantasy Island since the last post. Figgered as long as I was at it, why not an inter-cooler under the blower? Imagined I'd discovered something no one had thought of, so I bought the parts and developed a tidy package before I shared the idea with a friend who's done several of these packages (w/o inter-cooler). He's much smarter than me. His observation was,...ya don't wanna do that with a draw-through-carburetor system. Since the inter-cooler is acting on an air/fuel mixture, the fuel will tend to condense out. Potential fireworks! DOAH!!! Now I see why it's not been done before. Good thing I kept the boxes. - -
  14. Steering is in. More wires run. Drive shaft and axles installed. -
  15. Not mine. On the way to visit my friend Mike after the Long Beach swap meet, came across this Suburban on the 22 Fwy. Didn't have time to take in all the details while driving and shooting but the overall effect was very cool. -
  16. Nice custom. Was it once satin green?....saw one in SoCal a few years ago. Background in your picture show looks familiar too. Where you be?
  17. Progress proceeds in large chunks. Mike narrowed the rearend and installed it as well as battery box fab., gas tank and A/C install and is running fuel and A/C lines and wires. - - - smg.photobucket.com/user/wstory/media/My%20friend%20Mike/IMG_4479_zpsjkrewu8i.jpg.html'> - - -
  18. A fun comparo,........barely 6 months -
  19. Frame and under body painted. Suspension detailed and installed. Engine and trans are in. - - - - Next is to finish paint the interior, hang the AC unit and electronic modules and begin wiring.
  20. Not to take away from the Desoto wagon but the thread title seemed to fit Made me smile! http://www.strandbeest.com/
  21. Thanks for posting. I'm thinking many others on this forum will enjoy.
  22. This a bit OT but for those interested in motor oil chemistry as might apply to your old engine, check this link. It goes on & on & on but are some nuggets about zinc and "seal swelling". May be of interest to some. http://www.corvetteforum.com/forums/c3-tech-performance/3078239-quaker-state-s-new-defy-motor-oil-lab-test-and-wear-test-data.html
  23. Looks great! Sounds cool! They're never perfect at first but if you're close, it's a success. Friend of my characterizes modified cars as "prototypes", and that's about right. Always takes some tinkering. Yeah 3.08 is a little tall but it was a "deal" right?, and you can always fuss with that later. It's coming together. Congratulations!
