  1. We seem to have the 70 percent rule in Missouri. I watched the adjuster and talked to him when he was writing up the damage claim on the convertible following the tornado. I wanted to make sure he didn't reach that 70 percent mark. If they do declare a car a total, they usually offer what they feel is the value of the car - then you can buy it back for the salvage value = plus get paid the remainder of the car value. You can then take that remaining money and try to find some cheaper shop to fix your car. Usually estimates of repair come from the large shops and are on the high side. Usually the companies look at some published value figures like Old Car Price Guide or similar when you ask to insure the car for a stated dollar value. If you want to exceed that amount by much, they may not want to insure you. So....you are kind of darned if you do and if you don't. In the final analysis, most companies are looking to come out in their own favor. So support your contention that your car is worth more than the average, you need to get a written appraisal from a qualified shop itemizing things and assigning value. Which they usually do for a fee. It could be money well spent at claim time.

    serial tag

As Tim said......number on side of engine and on frame are the same. And is what came out on the original title. On the brown coupe I had that was damaged by the tree......somehow the vin on title had gotten changed and matched that serial number tag on the door frame. So, I just left it at that, said nothing, and the title went thru just fine. In Missouri. Of course the vin thing gets more complicated since many original motors in these old cars were replaced with either factory rebuilt units or one from another car. Usually ends up that title vin still matches the frame. A person can wire brush that frame number and maybe even use some paint to make it stand out if you think someone from the state will need to see it.
  3. I knew someone would eventually get around to taking note of the name change. It does have a certain ring to it. I guess Plym would be the nickname (like Tim).
  4. Rusty......are you getting the wide or narrow trim rings? Do you still have the original wheels with the clips in the center for the hubcaps? If so, that makes using regular baby moons either very difficult or impossible. Most baby moon caps nowadays are designed to pop on over the "nubs" in the wheel center.....not with clips. There may be some for clips, but I don't know where to find them. You may need to find a decent set of original style caps for your car to work with the wheels. Normal baby moon...............
  5. Greg.......the poll wouldn't let me vote. I was going to do just like in the last election and vote 4 or 5 times.
  6. Will the poll still accept a vote? I guess either MS or MI represents Missouri as it should be in with Kans, Okla, etc. Pretty sure I entered my vote back when this thread started.
  7. Aparently the time of "no option" must be at hand. It appears the same type of links to use in posting a picture to here are still there. They seem to be trying to make it more versatile for the average folks who like doing more creative things with their photos I'll try it and if it doesn't work for what I want, then will consider switching to another provider. I also have pics on Snapfish. They wanted me to buy some photo prints in order to maintain use of their site for free. So I did buy when they ran a special. Print quality is good and it is conveient for them to come in the mail. You just have to select the ones you want from what you already have on the site. Bucket has been charging me $75 per year for pretty much unlimited storage space. So far--Snapfish is free.
  8. When I brought up my Photobucket account, there is a message at the top saying you only have around 30 days before they switch to their new format so you might as well click on the "get started" button. I went to their home page to look for information on the switch, and instead of going back to where I was before............the program went to the new format. So.....looks like I'm there now. Will just have to see how it goes.
  9. I see this post originated in 2008. Not a bad idea to continue with it for newer members. As I said about 3 pages back, live in Joplin, MO in the southwest corner of the state.
  10. Oops........the title should have said "hood springs" not "hood hinges"......... I finally found some info on the fellow who was having some new hood springs made for a P15. Copied this line from a previous post by another member.............If he is still having them made, I bought a NEW set from Robert Garcia for $50.00. robertsdraftingservice@frontier.com Hope this helps. Wayne Might try sending Robert an email to inquire.
  11. I went to that swap meet at the Nashville Fairgrounds 4 or 5 years ago......thought it was pretty good and at that time found a few Plymouth related goodies. I thought it was being discontinued.....can't recall just why now.....but glad to hear it's still going on. Most of it was indoors with some outside spaces. Chance.....sure is nice to find one of those deals where nobody knows what the item is and therefore the price is very reasonable.
  12. Welcome Ray. Good intro. We don't jump on a newbie with no intro here quite as hard as they do on the HAMB. But, I think it's a good thing so everyone will know at least a little about new incoming members. Yes, I believe many U.S. Plymouth parts will fit your Dodge wagon.
  13. Re my earlier post mentioning Tomsclassic on ebay..........i found this info on another forum when a poster was asking about Toms.............so might try to see if it's indeed the right guy........... Tom is one of the owners of Auto City Classic 800-828-2212 Link to Auto City site........http://www.autocityclassic.com/index.php?option=com_virtuemart&page=shop.browse&category_id=883&Itemid=64 May or may not be helpful, but perhaps worth a call.
  14. I bought this 47 Plymouth Spec Dlx coupe (R pic) from the local Chevy dealer in 1962 or 63 (I think)..........for $35. It had belonged to a farmer from an area town who had used it for various chores including hauling some hay, judging by the mess in the trunk. The paint was faded light grey and it was generally kinda run down. I had $15 in my wallet.....went home and asked Mom to borrow $20.........and bought it. Later I added some 1959 Dodge style flipper wheel covers. A couple years later, I thought it would be cool to have the front end lowered so I had a fellow at a salvage yard heat the coil springs with a torch. Yep.....it rode rather like a lumber wagon thereafter. Also had him install a "cutout" on the exhaust pipe up near the front using an old gas tank filler neck. The bad part about that was.....it would eventually burn out the gasket inside the gas cap and begin leaking. Would fix it with some asbestos type paper stuff I found. My younger sister drove the car to high school during her senior year. Eventually the transmission began doing some wierd things and the car was parked. However, I kept it for several years and still had it when I moved here to Joplin in 1968. Towed it down here from Springfield, MO (about 70 miles), tried to get it running again unsuccessfully, and finally sold it. About the same time I sold it, I had bought a blue P15 coupe (mid pic) locally to replace it. After that, in 1973, acquired my present P15 convertible.
  15. Well, you certainly can't accuse Don of being a boring fellow. It's obvious he knows lotsa stuff. However, it appears that at least one year his Christmas shopping skills were a tad off the mark......
  16. The Technostalgia company has been making 12V LED taillights for the 46-48 Plymouths for quite a while now. I see that in our forum Parts For Sale section they have an ad stating they are now making a 6 volt version. Which is a good thing, of course, for those who don't wish to change to 12V. The lense and bezel come together. Price for a pair including gasket is $114.95 Probably same deal as with their earlier lights......you can't just use bezel or lense separately. (disclaimer: not affiliated with the company in any way)
  17. Good site, Don. Thanks.
  18. Yes....it was in the background of the first pic I posted. I looked thru pictures of the event taken by other photographers.......and did not find a shot of that car by any of them. So, although it looks to be very nice, hot rod guys will not pay much attention to a pretty stock old Plymouth. Link to the pic.........http://mopar.pairserver.com/p15d24ph_forum/index.php?/topic/32069-grand-national-roadster-show-going-on-this-weekend-in-caa-few-mopars/#
  19. There seem to be numerous new features to this forum program. Some of which I can decipher......some of which I don't really understand. I think this program is like a lot of other items these days......will do more things than you really need to do. Just look at all the tricks your cell phone or computer will do. So I guess the best answer thing is probably overkill. The one thing I wish people would do is to put their location below their names.....and also state what car or cars they have. Sometimes a person starts talking about having trouble with some item, like a starter maybe..........but a starter for What?? They forget to mention as they already know what kind of car (or truck) it is. signed......"Mr. Groucho"
  20. Glad to hear things are OK for you Andy, and for Dav. I can relate about disasters after our tornado in Joplin in May of 2011. Raining here currently, but the tornado watch was to exipre about now at 3 p m. Bob
  21. Grady.......sometimes around here, being a County Commissioner can get kinda exciting. They had several go-rounds with our recently defeated (in the last election) county sheriff about several different topics. They appeared on the local news numerous times.
  22. I saw on the news tonight about how the wind blew the foam from the ocean onto land. Looked pretty crazy. Just wondering if anyone was affected by that.
  23. This car won the AMBR (America's Most Beautiful Roadster) award.................
  24. I wondered about that........it appears to be the right color.
  25. X3 on above comments
