  1. Has anyone recently purchased a new top for their 40s--50s convertible? If so, which seller did you get it from? Was the quallity good? I need to order a new one for mine and am starting to look for a vendor. The top that's on the car now.......I had it sitting around in the box for about 15 years before getting it installed a few years ago. I can't recall from whom I bought it == but the quality was good. Haartz canvas, tan both outside and inside, with the plastic large rear window. Thanks. Bob
  2. What Pekka said. Parts can usually be found on eBay and sometimes in the classified ads of this site.
  3. Whenever I click on that green box that says image......my whole screen goes kinda dark and just stays that way.....won't do anything. I would love to be able to post the full size pics rather than the thumbnails. Besides, I have to wait and see what order the system will put the thumbnails in.....then do an edit to relate the comment to the correct picture.
  4. A couple guys on the HAMB took lots of pictures. There were many nice cars of the hotrod and custom type there....if you like those. I always enjoy seeing them, even if some are not my favorites.
  5. Thanks for the input guys. Will have to try something. I hate it when a program removes all my ID and passwords from stuff......some of my passwords are consistent, and others are not. I have to keep a list so I can remember what's what.
  6. On right......in primer w/white top.....second picture In background in left pic. Third pic---how it was not long ago. Just posting this as it shows you can make a little bit of a silk purse from a sow's ear. And.....speaking of the unusual.........check out the Imperial rear section on this Ford convert...... (or, at least it resembles an Imperial)
  7. I wonder if it relates possibly to some aftermarket electric windshield defroster. Or could it be from the base of one of those small de-fogger fans attached to the dash?
  8. At one time, a few years ago, I had a 50 Dodge engine put into my 47 Plymouth (which has the normal 3 speed standard trans). The crankshaft had the 8 holes needed for fluid drive, but the Plymouth setup needed only four of them.....and all was fine. However, if you try putting a Plymouth engine into a Dodge.....it seems you're gonna be about four holes short.
  9. I think you need to find an old time front end man.......if there are any of those left around nowadays. One alignment shop here used a torch to do something to the front end of a friend's pickup, which messed it up and he had to spend like $1200 to get it fixed.......and the shop would not reimburse him. But.....they have one of the latest model, hoop-de-doo alignment machines there. In the past, our Goodyear Tire store had a good alignment man. But you had to know that he was there and be sure to get him. These days, you would probably have to ask around at shops and body shops to see who they use that they feel are good.
  10. The original poster on the HAMB did say that someone has made a deal to buy a group of those newly acquired cars. Which ones they will be remains to be seen, of course.
  11. Glad you got it sorted out Rodney.
  12. Usually the vent windows are deleted and the windshield is changed to one piece or two piece with no center bar on customs and street rods. There might be answers to that on the HAMB as there are more of the aforementioned type cars there......and those guys have done about anything you can name. Looks like they've done that on this blue coupe...... And on the yellow one.
  13. Yeah........I guess popups are new new flashbacks. I think the cat had walked on the keyboard of my laptop.....no telling What buttons he pushed........... That's my story, and I'm stickin' to it.
  14. As usual, HAMBers are there taking some good pictures. And...as usual...not many Mopars in them. But some other real nice cars. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=783761&page=2
  15. I know having some advertising on here should be a good thing. But these companies who produce the ads evidently all think the only way to attract attention is to have them flashing, jumping and intruding on you. Hate to complain.....but....... *****edit.........after I wrote the above, I'm not sure the ads I referred to were on this site as some wierd stuff seemed to be going on with my laptop which I was using. Ads were flashing and popping up and things like that. So, may be I am wrong. Will just wait and see............ Currently using my desktop computer.
  16. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=783870Here's a link to an item on the Hamb...............the owner of French Lake has made a deal to buy some fellow's stash of old cars. Just thought at least those of you in the north country might be interested. The yard is in Annandale, MN. One car is a 42 Chrysler coupe which they think is extremely rare. Link to article http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/attachment.php?attachmentid=1883759&d=1362793408--- 42 chrysler
  17. If you have one of this type add on filter, and plan to continue using it, you might want to check the lines that connect it to the engine. I found out recently that both my lines were stopped up and therefore the filter wasn't doing even it's limited duty.
  18. Man......this thread was started in 2007. Information is still valid, however. Son in law Dale knows some fellow in Kansas City who (in his spare time) can work on these old radios. I think he' s going to go thru a couple of ours and install the new style vibrator (which I think costs about $30) and install a jack to run a mp3 player or iPod thru the radio. By running a player thru the system, you can play old timey music in your car at shows......and/or also listen to it while driving. Usually not much exciting, in my opinion, to hear on A.M. radio. There is another Kansas City man, whom I see at the Springfield swap meet, who works on and sells old car radios. I will have to look for his card if anyone is interested. Have no idea what he charges for his services. There's a guy in Calif somewhere, I think Bob's Radios, who does am/fm conversions and other upgrades. Probably not cheap. The first place to start on these oldies, as I understand it, is to replace the old capacitors. Second probably the vibrator. I think tubes can last a good long while. There is, or was, someone out there making reproduction glass dial faces for our old MoPar radios. I notice they sometimes get cracked, or the painting wears off from age and exposure.
  19. Apparently with some younger car guys, it's now somewhat popular to convert your LHD car or truck to RHD, along with suicide doors. I talked with two young fellows at a car show last summer.....both were moving theirs to RHD for the "be different" factor.
  20. I wonder if Ficken Wiper Service, aka Wiperman, sells blades and/or arms. I know he rebuilds vacuum wiper motors.
  21. Vrooommm...........Vrooommm
  22. Back in the 70s I had a 60 Bonneville convert.....Firethorn Red.....with the 3 tone leather interior. It was an automatic on the column, had bucket seats but was no console between them. A really nice car. I think it sold it for 2500 after driving it a few years......had a rebuilt 389 put in it and a new top on it. It got down to whether to keep it or the 67 Ford Galaxie 500 XL yellow/black convert we also had. X wife drove the Ford daily to work so we kept it.....sold the Poncho. Would be nice to have the old Pontiac back......but that's how it goes.
  23. Ran onto a picture of this car, which was a one off built by Virgil Exner as an experimental for 1960. Once owned by the shah of Iran and by others, the Italian built vehicle has now been restored and is being shown. Link to the article. http://www.supercars.net/cars/5279.html
  24. Looking real good. Do you have one of those "stop light viewers" that goes on the dash, so you can see up to a stop light? Just curious.......is that light colored car behind yours in the picture above a Renault Dauphine? Also....what is the yellow car?
  25. Be sure and take one or more regulators.....whatever you have.
