  1. Our 40 Dodge Luxury Line Special (D17) has a rubber grommet just to the right of the wiper switch that I can't identify. I can't find it in any of the part books nor see where the wiring takes it. I have not seen anything similar on the other cars of this year. It looks like a coil of some type. Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Rick
  2. Great stuff!! The picture quality is incredible. Little did these folks know that their efforts would forge such a great nation. Thank you for sharing.
  3. If you are like me you probably check ebay frequently. It is so frustrating to see something of interest but the asking pricing is obscene. Some vendors I would never do business with because of their pricing. Well after using the "advanced" button on the search line I was able to exclude one of these sellers and now when I look for my items I am not angered anymore. I also set the system up to show me new items first. You guys have probably already done all this but what a difference it makes. I now know how to get rid of obscene sellers!! Back to the beauty of the hunt in a hobby I love.
  4. Thanks guys. Good, helpful information. I am fortunate that I am not missing too many parts so it's nice to get it right if I can. I believe I'll keep looking for some type of ivory knobs to match the other knob colors. This forum is such a great source of information.
  5. Is this the photo you are looking for?
  6. I'm trying to find a matching radio knob for our 1940 Dodge. The radio is a Philco C-1708 and was used in all the Chrysler cars that year. I have looked at all the pictures on the web but can't really tell which is the right one. Our D-17 has the cream colored dash knobs, wiper knob and cowl vent knob. I have seen references that point towards maroon knobs. The one knob I have is different than all the pictures on the web. I would appreciate your insights or pictures confirming the right knob.
  7. It looks great! Not a flaw to be seen. Enjoy! Nice to see more 40 Dodges...
  8. Wow, the chrome and paint appears to be great shape. Lucky you. I've always been curious about the "red stripe" on the bumper guards that Dodge used. It is on some cars and not others. It is then repeated on the dash on some cars but not others. On the "Special" it appears to have been been used in these spots. I've also seen it on the hood ornament. I hope I am not hijacking your tread but I have these instructions that came with my glove box lock that may help Phil. Have fun with your 40.
  9. Our 1940 is the "Special". It did not have the chrome horn ring and the interior trim is woodgrain. As far as I know the interior is all original (it looks it) but I'm curious if the doors ever had the Dodge "badge" on them. I don't believe so. Enjoy your "new" car.
  10. Here is a pic of our 1940 D17 door panels. I'm anxious to see how yours turns out. It is nice to see some other 1940's out there. On the glove box lock, it took me months to find one but they do come up occasionally.
  11. I've got a 40 Dodge D-17. Still all original. Car has been the family all 70+ years. Tell me what you what to see and I can send you some pics. I've also been copying every 40 Dodge pic I find on the internet over the last year for reference. Send me a separate email. Thanks. Rick
  12. Thanks for replying. The serial number from inside the front passenger door is 4392784. The car spent most of its life in Washington State.
  13. My wife has inherited a 40 Dodge 4dr Sedan with the Model # from inside the bay area as 73864S. According to this thread it should be a D17? Can anyone verify this by the number? Of course my Dodge manual covers all the D14-D17s. It looks much like a unrestored version of Phils but no chrome trim on the back window and no trim going round the sedan, instead there is pinstripping. It was repainted perhaps 15 years ago. All the wheels also have the matching pinstripping. No carpet but mats instead. Mohair seats also. I've really been enjoy this forum as I'm getting up to speed on "The Dodge".
