I just found that new feature a little while ago....when I wanted to pass on some parts for sale info on the HAMB. I think it's a good thing.

Hi. Nice car. Do you want radial or old style bias ply tires??? Radials will make these old cars handle better and not wander so much due to grooves in the pavement, etc. They now come in a wide white version. The only negative I have had with wide whites from Coker was I once bought their house brand "Coker Classics" bias ply......and before I ever got them on the car the white was turning tan due to bleed thru of the base material. You can return them to white with BlecheWhite or similar, but is an ongoing fight for some time. I then bought Firestone reproductions, which have been mucho better in that regard. I personally prefer the moderate width white as used in the mid to late 1950s, as opposed to the "gangster-walls" of about 4" width. To each his own on that choice. Some say the Diamondback radial wide white is a good tire.....but kinda pricey perhaps. Llink to their website: http://www.dbtires.com/ Also a link to Universal Tire.........................https://www.universaltire.com/ Pic.......the Firestones I happen to like (bias ply).................

You might try checking with one or two local muffler shops. If you want a stock, oval, type muffler..........or a round one........they can probably get it. Or they may have access to cherry bomb type if desired. They should be able to give you an estimate.

We took a couple wiper arms off a P15 a couple weeks ago......they had a little lever under the arm right at the pivot shaft. They may not have been original to the car.....but were there. Kind of rocking the arm assembly gently to try and free it up will sometimes work. If it has the lever, need to pull it back and then try to remove arm. Makes it slightly more involved. Good luck. Let us know your results.

Go to good ole Ebay.........put in 1950 DeSoto book.........and some will appear. I saw a repair manual and a parts manual...........you really should have both. The shop manual gives exploded views of many things so you can see how they went together. The repair book has numerous directions on how to repair or troubleshoot things. You can usually find both original and reprint books.....either is OK.

Yes.....I believe 59 was the last year for the flathead six and also the R10 overdrive. It would be 12V. Since the rear of the car is gone, that eliminates seeing OD script on the trunk lid. I couldn't see a lockout handle under the dash........but could be one. Looking at the trans would be the other way to tell.

Steering Wheels Interchangeable? 1940 Desoto And 1940 Dodge
BobT-47P15 replied to 40desoto's topic in P15-D24 Forum
That could be the case, Tim. All I know is what I saw when looking inside the car. No idea what was done to make it work. A Canadian Dodge wheel should be same as a P15 since they are really a Plymouth in disguise. I bought one sometime back and everything including center and horn ring are made same as Plymouth. Have been saving the wheel as it is really nice. -

Help Identifying Manufacture Year Of My Dodge Wayfarer

Do you have a parts or repair manual for the car? I think they explain a couple of those tags that come on the car..... perhaps the one on the firewall from Briggs Body Co who made the body and also the one on the drivers door post. When new, these cars used the number on the side of the engine as the "VIN" number on the title. If your engine has been changed from original, that number is stamped into the side of the frame just a little before the left rear wheel. Will likely need a wire brush or wheel to expose the number. ####I I just scrolled back up to your original post.......which sounds as if you found the frame number. In the front of my Service/repair manual there are pictures of the various models of Plymouths from 1946 (P15) thru 1951 (P23), -
Don........I was waiting for the part of the story that said......."I forgot that the Furd was in first gear and when it started, it ran right thru the back side of the barn".

Steering Wheels Interchangeable? 1940 Desoto And 1940 Dodge
BobT-47P15 replied to 40desoto's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Do they both have the same number of splines? Do you have the wheel you wish to use? If so, can you visually compare it to your current wheel.....maybe measure the hole. I would initially say it should work, as there is a P15 Plymouth somewhere around town here that has a Dodge D24 steering wheel on it. Do you want to use the Dodge horn ring on the DeSoto, or swap those. If a swap is wanted, would need to check if the attaching holes are similar and the interior activating parts are same. -
I went to the carnut.com picture index and looked for some P15 coupes with the modified windshield. This is the first one I found (red). Next one (blue). and last one (pink). I imagine there are even more if you look further.

Hi Carlo. Nice looking coupe. Yes...a little more info on the car would be nice. I can see the wheels and that piece of side trim are not original. Otherwise looks pretty much stock. Glad to have you on board. I think you can go back in and change the year of your car..........

I did blow up a 6v battery by jumping with a 12v from my Caravan. But---it was a real cold day and the 48 coupe was being real hard to start. Cranked for too long. I was just going to unhook the cables when.....BAM......the 6v blew. Made a heck of a mess under the hood......white acidy stuff all over the place including the newly painted motor. That's the only time that has happened to me.......otherwise have jumped quite a few 6s with 12s no problem. Just try to remove the cable from the 6 as soon as it starts.

Is the hole for the float in the right place on that plastic tank. On my current gas tank (original), several years ago the son in law brazed a couple of pennies over pinholes he found in the bottom side of the tank. Those are still holding today. I looked thru the catalog of tanks at O'Reilly Auto.........as I recall either a Jeep or Ford item came the closest to being a match.....but would need some modification....including relocating the filler neck opening. There is the metal rectangular tank from Tanks, Inc which some have used......but it looks nothing like an original one. I think they are "ugly" but may use one anyway. I also ran onto an ad for a guy making plastic tanks, but haven't followed up to see what he has. Yes....most old original tanks you find nowadays are shot. It's too bad one of these places can't just make one for the old Mopars.

I do know that those chrome rods/brackets are the same as on my 47 P15 convertible. Not sure if used on a pickup or not. The convertible had a smaller visor than those used on other body styles. Can't tell for sure, but that may be a convertible visor too.

When I ran the convert at the HAMB drags in 05, my top speed on my best run was like 57 mph......time was 20-something. But, I didn't jam it on takeoff as I didn't want to break anything related to clutch or transmission. Maybe with pushing a bit harder, I could have hit low 60s mph. Surely there's something hopped up that goes faster. I don't think this one is a flathead six though.......

Haven't heard much from Lou lately, that I know of. Ask Tim Adams........he may have a phone number or email address.

I wonder if the 1932 could indicate the year the restaurant was founded. Maybe the artist just happened to find a picture of an Australian car to use in doing the sign. ......mysteries of life.

First Trip Outta My Town With The 46 P15
BobT-47P15 replied to Randy L Peterson's topic in P15-D24 Forum
Car looks good. Glad it seems to be running OK. Always fun to take a little cruise in an oldie. -
Fred, hate to see you go......but come back from time to time to say "howdy". If you ever get down here in Missouri, let me know. (That IS a funky paint job on the Chevy. I always like two tone green on that model.) Bob

Was it actually part of the fuel gauge, or in the line behind it? Looks like a resistor type item. Tim may be correct in his assessment of what it is........but don't recall seeing one like it on my P15. Is your car still 6 volt or changed to 12V?
